The document summarizes the Indian chemical industry. It states that India has the 3rd largest chemical industry in Asia in terms of volume and the chemical industry accounts for 5% of India's GDP. India is a major global producer of dyestuffs and intermediates and is the 3rd largest consumer and 4th largest producer of agrochemicals globally. The chemical industry has seen high growth and is expected to increase its contribution to the global chemical industry from 3% to 5% by 2017. Gujarat and Maharashtra are the leading production hubs in India due to their strategic locations and availability of raw materials.
Indian Chemical Industry Challenges and OpportunitiesResurgent India
Chemicals are one of the key input materials that are used across a wide range
of industrial and consumer sector. On account of its wide-ranging application, the
chemical manufacturing sector has emerged as a key economic activity in the
country.
Growth Outlook for Indian Chemical IndustryBinay Agrawal
TATA Strategic has classified the chemical industry in India into 4 key segments, based on a detailed analysis of the industry. India currently accounts for only 3.3 % of the total chemical market with a market size of ~$ 0.12 trillion in 2013. Indian chemical industry is also a much diversified industry with more than 70,000 commercial products. It accounted for ~13% of the gross value added by the industry segment. It accounted for ~13% of the total India's export.Indian chemical sector is very crucial for the economic development of country.
Over the last five years Indian chemical industry has started to evolve rapidly. With significant capacity additions coming into place,
the focus has also been towards investments in R&D. India's competence in this
knowledge intensive industry is increasing however still the tapped potential is very
limited. The current low per capita consumption (~7 kgs for polymers in India as
compared to world average of 25 kgs) suggests that the demand potential is also yet
to be realized. Moreover India has a very strong outlook for the key end user
industries (e.g. Packaging is expected to grow at ~17% p.a. over the next five years,
Electronic is expected to grow at ~15% p.a. over the next five years, Construction and
Automotive both sectors are expected to grow at ~14% p.a. over the next five years).
Hence, going ahead the demand of chemical products is expected to surge strongly at
10-11 % p.a. over the next five years.
To meet this increasing demand either the local production will have to ramp up or
the imports will have to go up. Indian Govt. has increased its focus towards domestic
manufacturing with the intent of increasing the share of manufacturing in GDP from
16% to 25% by 2022.

A key constituent of the Indian economy that accounts for about five percent of the GDP, the Indian chemical industry has vital associations with several other industries such as automotives, consumer durables, food processing, iron and steel, textiles, paper, and engineering, among others. It is the eighth largest sector in the world and the third largest in Asia by volumes, after China and Japan. This report encompasses an assessment of the chemicals industry in India, within the context of the global industry, and the opportunities and challenges it presents. The country’s chemical industry was estimated at USD 91 billion in 2011 and we believe that it has the potential to reach USD 134 billion by 2015 growing at a CAGR of 10 percent. The growth is expected to be driven by rising demand in end-use segments and expanding exports fuelled by increasing export competitiveness. The dynamics that propel the industry, namely opportunities, competition, infrastructure investment and regulatory policies are also studied in the report.

As one of the most important methods to increase production in current global agricultural development, pesticide market presents stable growth in recent years. In 2006-2012, chemical pesticide API (converting into active ingredient) output of China attained CAGR of 18.3%, but declined by 10% in 2013 greatly influenced by backward capacity elimination under stringent environmental protection requirement of pesticide industry. However, the price increase offset the unfavorable impact brought by output dropping, operating revenue of Chinese pesticide industry surged by 19.3% year-on-year to RMB281.3 billion, and total profit reached RMB22.93 billion, presenting a 30.9% YoY rise in 2013.
China is not only the big pesticide producer and consumer, but also the large exporter. In 2013, the pesticide export volume soared up by 22.1% yr-on-yr to 1,095kt, and the export structure experienced significant change. Also in the same year, pesticide preparation exported shared about 60% of total export, being the major variety of pesticide export. In addition, the export volume of herbicide, bactericide and insecticide occupied 68%, 23% and 8% of the total, respectively.

In this deck, you will learn the significance of workplace discipline for organisational success. You’ll also learn
• Four (4) workplace discipline methods you should consider
• The best and most practical approach to implementing workplace discipline.
• Three (3) key tips to maintain a disciplined workplace.
Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Being largely an intermediate product, strong economic growth is an important factor in sustaining demand for chemical
products
Per capita consumption of most of the finished products under chemicals sector is far below the world average; this points
to the vast potential for growth in the industry
As in a number of other industries in India, strong growth in discretionary income and changing lifestyles are counted as a
few of the other major growth drivers of the chemicals sector

PCPIR - Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Regions
The government has announced a number of measures to
improve competitiveness in the sector
Industrial licensing has been abolished for most sub-sectors
(except a small list of hazardous chemicals)
Approval is granted for FDI up to 100 per cent in the
chemicals sector
The government is continuously reducing the list of
reserved chemical items for production in the small-scale
sector, thereby facilitating greater investment in technology
up-gradation and modernisation
Policies have been initiated to set up integrated Petroleum,
Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Regions
(PCPIR). PCPIR will be an investment region spread across
250 square kilometres for manufacturing of domestic and
export-related products of petroleum, chemicals and
petrochemicals
New initiatives are likely to attract large investments, both
domestic and foreign, with requisite improvements in
infrastructure and competition
Industry-level initiatives
• The Indian Chemical Council (ICC ) is the nodal
agency/signatory representing India under the ‘Responsible
Care Initiative’
• ICC has prepared codes and guidance for implementation of
process safety, employee health and safety, pollution
prevention, emergency response, and product safety
• Member companies of ICC are encouraged to interact with
local communities and groups such as students, teachers,
fire/police personnel
Firm-level initiatives
• Indian chemical firms have strived to increase their market
share through global presence
• They have in place technical agreements with multinational
firms to keep abreast of technological progress in the global
chemical industry

The Indian middle-class household is expected to grow from 31 million in 2008 to 148 million by 2030, leading to a huge
demand for specialty chemicals in automotives, water treatment and construction
Compared to developed markets, current usage of specialty chemicals in India is very low, with an increased focus on
improving products and usage intensity of specialty chemicals, the industry is poised for strong growth in future
