What is Charting the Future?
Charting the Future is a strategic effort to help Minnesota
realize a prosperous future through three commitments:
 Ensuring access to an extraordinary education for all
Minnesotans;
 Being the partner of choice to meet Minnesota’s
workforce and community needs; and
 Delivering to students, employers,
communities and taxpayers the highest
value, most affordable higher education
option

Charting the Future Work Plan
 It is a plan developed by Leadership Council to move forward the initiatives
recommended by the Charting the Future implementation teams
 It is not the sum total of all the projects underway at our colleges or at the
system office
While recognizing that there is other
important work happening too

 Improve academic advising
 Development of transfer
pathways
 Expanding Open Educational
Resources (OERs)
 Completed college diversity
plans
 Developmental education
 Long-term sustainability
plan for our colleges
 Partnership with MN
Department of Education
 Metro Baccalaureate Plan
 And others

Moving forward at each and every campus
An approach for how the work would move forward was
outlined last spring, presidents have been actively working to
set-up college structures and processes over the past four
weeks.
 Identifying a campus team inclusive of students, faculty,
and staff
 Lead active discussion and conversation with students,
faculty, and staff
 Integrate the CTF work with college strategic work plans

So what can we do?
 Meet with your college president
 Make CTF a standing item at student senate meetings
 Get involved – campus groups and consider volunteering to serve
on a statewide work group
 Identify ways to help improve communications, especially with
students not actively involved

2. What challenges do you see currently or see in the future that may
hinder our ability to implement the initiatives outlined in the Charting
the Future Work Plan?

Charting the Future

  • 1. 1 Minnesota State College Student Association Minnesota Student Leadership Summit October 16, 2015
  • 2. 2 What is Charting the Future? Charting the Future is a strategic effort to help Minnesota realize a prosperous future through three commitments:  Ensuring access to an extraordinary education for all Minnesotans;  Being the partner of choice to meet Minnesota’s workforce and community needs; and  Delivering to students, employers, communities and taxpayers the highest value, most affordable higher education option
  • 3. 3 Charting the Future timeline January 2012 Strategic Framework adopted by Board of Trustees November 2012 Three strategic work groups launched: Education, System, and Workforce November 2013 CTF report approved by Board of Trustees April 2014 8 implementation teams launched April 2014 – June 2015 Team meetings, focus groups, gallery walks July 2015 Implementation teams turned in team reports September 2015 Leadership Council Charting the Future work plan shared Fall 2015 Campus-based work begins Teams, work groups, forums, Coordinating Committee
  • 4. 4 Charting the Future Work Plan  It is a plan developed by Leadership Council to move forward the initiatives recommended by the Charting the Future implementation teams  It is not the sum total of all the projects underway at our colleges or at the system office While recognizing that there is other important work happening too The Work Plan moves forward initiatives you care about  Improve academic advising  Development of transfer pathways  Expanding Open Educational Resources (OERs)  Completed college diversity plans  Developmental education  Long-term sustainability plan for our colleges  Partnership with MN Department of Education  Metro Baccalaureate Plan  And others
  • 5. 5 Moving forward at each and every campus An approach for how the work would move forward was outlined last spring, presidents have been actively working to set-up college structures and processes over the past four weeks.  Identifying a campus team inclusive of students, faculty, and staff  Lead active discussion and conversation with students, faculty, and staff  Integrate the CTF work with college strategic work plans
  • 6. 6 So what can we do?  Meet with your college president  Make CTF a standing item at student senate meetings  Get involved – campus groups and consider volunteering to serve on a statewide work group  Identify ways to help improve communications, especially with students not actively involved
  • 7. 7 1. Are there things at your college that you think are working well that could be shared with others? 2. What challenges do you see currently or see in the future that may hinder our ability to implement the initiatives outlined in the Charting the Future Work Plan? 3.
