“My job requires
organisation,
method and a sense
of planning”
Tell us about your career at SPIE.
Charlie Maurin: I joined SPIE Sud-Ouest in Montpellier, in southern France, for my end-of-
studies internship at engineering school in 2015. I had the opportunity to assist a Business
Manager working on two big sites for the extension and renovation of a hospital in Bagnols-
sur-Cèze, in southern France. I was then hired as a Project Manager in the Housing
department. In 2017, thanks to internal mobility, I transferred to Nîmes and joined the General
Electrical Facility department.
What are your duties?
C.M.: On a day-to-day basis, I am responsible for managing commercial projects, such as
hospitals and offices. More specifically, I handle financial and technical management, costing,
negotiating with and ordering from suppliers, site meetings, managing production time, and
the budget. I manage around fifteen people, on site and in the Design Office. My job requires
organisation, method and a sense of planning in order to cope with hazards on building sites.
What are your career development prospects?
C.M.: Later on, I hope that I’ll get promoted and gain more managerial responsibility but also
to positions that are less technical, such as a Business Manager or a Site Manager.
