Interviews
Nicolas,
project manager
How long have you been with SPIE and what has been your career path?
Nicolas: I have now been with the company for almost 9 years. I started my career with no
university background, through an apprenticeship in a local administration, doing mostly office
work. I was very much interested in IT and wanted to move into that field. I joined a large IT
company, doing back office work, then joined SPIE as a service dispatcher, dispatching field
engineers across Switzerland. I now manage IT network and telephony projects for our
customers.
How did SPIE help you get to where you are today?
Nicolas: I was willing to be in contact with customers. SPIE offered me to do a course in
project management. The company financed the course and arranged for me to study part
time. I was also given the opportunity to pass two certifications.
In the following months, there was a vacancy for a project manager. The position would
have normally required an experienced project manager but the company decided to give
me the opportunity. This has been my current job for over two years now.
What do you like about working for SPIE?
Nicolas: SPIE is a company that recognises involvement. If you have a genuine will to invest
yourself, the company will give you a matching opportunity and will make sure you can
acquire the necessary training and skills. In my job, I also have the opportunity to interact
with customers regularly, which is exactly what I wanted.
