Charles IV was born in 1316 in Prague as Václav, son of the King of Bohemia. He was educated in France and spoke five languages. As king, he significantly influenced Bohemian culture and politics. He established the University of Prague, rebuilt Prague Castle, founded Charles Bridge, and patronized other architectural and artistic works. Charles IV died in 1378 at age 62 after leaving a significant legacy of expanding education, culture, and economic prosperity in Bohemia.
