St. Augustine, Florida is the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United States, having been founded in 1565. It has a long and rich history dating back to when it was first claimed for Spain. Some of its most notable historic sites include the Castillo de San Marcos fortress and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine.
