This document defines ethics and discusses different types of ethics. It addresses: 1) Ethics is the study of what is good/bad, right/wrong, and morally acceptable/unacceptable in human actions. It deals with morality and human behavior. 2) There are two main types of ethics - normative ethics, which studies what is right/wrong, and meta ethics, which studies the meaning and justification of ethical terms. 3) Moral values and norms guide human behavior but they vary between groups and societies and change over time. Mores are strongly held cultural norms while folkways are everyday norms. Laws are codified rules enforced by institutions, unlike informal social norms.
