~ A linear equation has only one unknown ( to the power of 1 )
Example :
7x + 3 = 9
~ The value of the unknown which satisfies an equation is called the solution to the
equation of the root of the equation.
Example :
5y – 2 = 8
5y = 8 + 2
5y = 10
Y = 2
The solution of 5 y – 2 = 8 is 2.
Example2:
The perimeter of the figure below is 46 cm. Find the value of a.
(3a+4)cm
(2a-1)
Step: Solve
Perimeter of a rectangle =
(2Xlength)+ (2Xwidth)
46= 2(3a+4) + 2(2a-1)
46= 6a+ 8+ 4a-2
10a= 46-6
A= 40
