LGBTQ youth experience both benefits and risks related to internet use compared to heterosexual youth. Benefits include increased access to health information online and greater likelihood of using technology for political involvement. LGBTQ youth are also more likely to have online friends who are better sources of support. However, risks include somewhat greater feelings of unsafety online and higher rates of experiencing online bullying and sexual harassment. Health professionals need interventions to maximize online benefits while reducing risks for LGBTQ youth.
Nearly 1 in 5 adults in the US smoke cigarettes, and tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death and disease. Smoking rates have declined in recent decades but progress has slowed. Additionally, 40% of nonsmokers are exposed to secondhand smoke, putting them at risk of various health issues. Reducing smoking rates requires a comprehensive approach including helping smokers quit, establishing smoke-free laws, educating the public on dangers, and preventing youth smoking.
The results of an Indy Politics poll of this year’s upcoming City-County Council races indicates control of the body could be up for grabs. However, candidates have a long way to go to educate voters about who’s even on the ballot in their district.
1) Alcohol consumption is strongly associated with suicide and self-harm, especially among males. Higher national alcohol consumption from 1970-2000 correlated with increased suicide rates in Ireland.
2) Studies found that over half of young suicide victims in parts of Ireland were very drunk at the time of death, with blood alcohol levels over 160mg%. Alcohol use was also implicated in 40% of hanging deaths in another region of Ireland.
3) Acute intoxication, a history of heavy drinking, and alcohol dependence can all increase risk of suicide and self-harm by enhancing impulsivity, impairing problem-solving, causing emotional instability, and leading to adverse social consequences like relationship and job loss.

The document discusses real life stories of underage drinking from the novel Twisted and surveys that find peer pressure and lack of supervision contribute to teen drinking. Overall, the key message is that underage alcohol use should be avoided due to its potential short and long-term effects.
September 2012 Kaiser Health Tracking Poll ChartpackKFF
The document discusses the results of a September 2012 poll on issues important to voters in the upcoming presidential election. The top three issues were the economy, budget deficit, and Medicare. When broken down by age, those aged 55 and older saw Medicare as the second most important issue after the economy. Democrats prioritized Medicare more than Republicans, who ranked the budget deficit and economy higher. A majority of respondents trusted President Obama more than Mitt Romney on health policy issues like the Affordable Care Act and Medicare. However, seniors were more evenly divided between the candidates on Medicare. Most respondents supported keeping Medicare as is rather than changing to a premium support system, though arguments about reducing deficits or not affecting those over 55 came closest to swaying some

- The survey assessed behaviors, experiences, and risk/protective factors of over 47,000 FCPS students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12.
- It found that having at least three protective "assets" dramatically reduces youth risk behaviors like substance use and violence.
- Rates of past 30-day alcohol, binge drinking, cigarette, and marijuana use were reported for different grades and demographics.
- Correlations were shown between substance use and factors like depression, risky sexual behaviors, poor school performance, and experiencing/perpetrating violence.

As we enter the last lap of the 2012 BMC elections, the poll turf is buzzing with activity. Political parties are declaring the list of candidates, incumbents are either sulking or rejoicing, preparations for canvassing are going on in full swing, strategies are being decided behind closed doors or open forums, and media too is stirring the pot with great vigour and vigilance.
In the ensuing melee, we at Praja decided to prioritise the top few issues that the citizen of Mumbai have been complaining about. Based on complaints filed with the BMC over the past 3 years in each ward, we have listed down three top issues in civic, health and education segments. For good measure, we also took into consideration the results of the perception survey we conducted during May last year against a sample of over 28,707 citizen of Mumbai.
This paper is not meant to be an indictment of the past performances. It should actually be taken as the
agenda for the next lot of councillors who will be elected by the citizen. Facts are simple. Each ward has
three top issues that its citizens have been complaining about. The onus on tackling these issues rests
clearly on the next lot of elected representatives’.
Which brings us back to the crux of a democratic process: What exactly is the role of the elected
representatives? Over the years, Praja has discovered that our elected representatives do not even attend meetings at the BMC. Worse, both the quality and quantity of the questions asked by our elected
representatives in the BMC committee meetings leave a lot be desired.
Our elected representatives need to understand that their role in the BMC is to ensure that the BMC
administration addresses the grievances. This can only happen if they are armed with data, if they attend the meetings and if they ask the right probing questions. They need to be the sentinels of BMC machinery who execute the work.
Let’s hope the newly elected representatives of the BMC keep these agenda in mind during their five year term. And may the best candidate win.
The Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse is a community volunteer coalition in Bernards Township that provides programs and resources to prevent and reduce alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. According to a 2011 survey, prior 30 day substance use was lower among 6th-8th graders in Bernards Township than the national average for 12th graders. Delaying the age of first use protects youth's futures as early alcohol use is correlated with higher rates of alcohol problems, drunk driving, and poorer school performance. The document provides information on state and local laws regarding underage drinking and substance possession.
The document discusses potential ways to improve voter registration rates in Ireland, specifically among 18-25 year olds who have the lowest registration rates. It presents two proposals: 1) Raise the voting age to 21 unless registered with a political youth group, and 2) Implement automatic voter registration for those over 21 through the education system or by obtaining an age card. The interviewee expresses disagreement with raising the age but support for automatic registration through education, seeing it as improving voter turnout and involvement in issues. Overall the discussion weighs advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches.
The document discusses how companies can support LGBTQ employees in the workplace. It outlines that the Equality Act makes discrimination against employees based on sexual orientation or gender identity illegal. It encourages companies to establish diversity networks to support LGBTQ staff and make them visible. It also discusses National Coming Out Day and the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, which ranks companies on their LGBTQ inclusion policies and practices.
This document provides statistics on alcohol consumption and related harms in the UK:

- Hospital admissions and deaths related to alcohol have increased in recent years. The costs of alcohol misuse to health and society are substantial.
- Young people's drinking is influenced by family attitudes. Underage drinking and binge drinking remain problems, though levels have declined somewhat in recent years.
This document provides smoking prevalence data and statistics for England from various surveys. Some key points:

- 10.8% of women smoked at delivery in 2017/18. Smoking rates varied significantly between local authorities.
- Smoking attributable mortality was 263 per 100,000 population in 2015-17. Smoking also contributes to years of life lost, cancers, heart and lung disease.
- Smoking rates were lower among youth, with 6.7% of 15-year olds smoking regularly in 2016. Regional variation exists among local authorities.
This document summarizes the results of a national survey of Latino registered voters conducted in March 2010. Some key findings include:
- A majority said the most important issue for President Obama and Congress to address is jobs and the economy.
- Large majorities felt it was important for Congress to pass immigration and health care reform before the 2010 elections.
- Approval of President Obama remained strong, with over 60% approving of his job performance.
- Democrats maintained a strong advantage over Republicans in terms of which party Latino voters felt could best address issues.

Underage drinking continues to be a public health problem in the US. While rates of underage drinking and binge drinking have declined since 1988 when all states adopted a minimum legal drinking age of 21, challenges remain. A comprehensive approach using multiple strategies like education, enforcement of laws, and community programs working at different levels has shown effectiveness. Further research is still needed to identify the most cost-effective combination of policies and programs to reduce underage drinking.
The document defines crime and discusses types of crimes according to the Bangladesh penal code. Crime is defined as an act that breaches a legal duty and is punishable by law. Under the penal code, crimes are classified into seven categories: offenses against persons, property, documents, mental order, public tranquility, the state, and public servants. Crimes are also divided according to the Bangladesh police into heinous and non-heinous crimes. The document further discusses causes of crime in Bangladesh, examples of criminal activities, impacts of crime, preventive measures, and the role of social workers in combating crime.
The police spokesman expressed concern over the rising number of crimes committed by juveniles between 10 and 19 years old, which made up 21% of the population. He called on parents, schools, and the community to take concerted efforts like parental guidance, counseling, and community service to curb juvenile delinquency. Suggesting this was a result of declining social and moral values, he urged intervention before the problem worsened.
Attitudes to immigration: National issue or global challenge?Ipsos UK
1. Views on immigration in the US have become highly polarized along political lines, with Republicans much more likely than Democrats to say that immigrants take jobs and social services from Americans.
2. The foreign-born population in the US has grown significantly since the early 20th century, with Mexico now the top country of origin, surpassing previous waves from Europe.
3. However, underlying cultural values and emotions around issues like race, economics, and identity are also driving attitudes on both sides, making the debate complex with no easy answers.
Social class is no longer the dominant factor in shaping political attitudes and voting behavior. While some residual class loyalty remains, factors like personality, policy issues, media influence, and regional differences now play a larger role in how people vote. Voters are also more volatile and willing to change their party alignments. With more floating voters, political parties must now appeal to a wider range of demographic groups and policy priorities to attract votes.

Green Growth: The 2015 Election and the EnvironmentIpsos UK
Ipsos MORI’s Environment Research Team have created a new infographic which presents our latest data on where environmental issues fit in the 2015 general election. These supporting slides explore the recent rise in support for the Green Party and profiles who supporters of the Green Party are. It analyses how important voters perceive environmental issues to be in the election, which environmental issues are considered to be most important, and also brings in views of MPs about environmental issues.
These slides were presented by Ben Page, CEO, Ipsos MORI and Gideon Skinner, Head of Political Research, Ipsos MORI at our breakfast briefing on 10th April 2015. As well as Ben and Gideon, the panel featured Vicky Pryce, Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) and Joe Murphy, Political Editor at The Evening Standard.

Ipsos MORI is hosted a 2015 general election briefing in the final week before the polls closed. This session drew together comparisons with Ipsos MORI’s unique dataset of regular polling since the 1970s and results from our latest research. We also covered the issues driving the election, as well as the implications for public services and the political landscape.
The document summarizes a report on the political engagement and priorities of young Canadians. Some key findings:
1) Voter turnout among 18-25 year-olds likely increased by about 12 percentage points in the 2015 Canadian election, driven mostly by increased turnout among those under 45.
2) The Liberal Party won the youth vote in 2015, receiving 45% of the votes from young Canadians compared to 25% for the NDP and 20% for the Conservatives.
3) 57% of young Canadians approve of the job performance of the federal government led by Prime Minister Trudeau, whom 60% view positively. Most young Canadians think the country is headed in the right direction.
Beyond the Bubble: Conservative Party Conference 2014Ipsos UK
This document discusses the challenges facing the major UK political parties leading up to the 2015 general election. It notes that voter support for the three main parties has declined, with only three-quarters now voting for one of them compared to nine in ten in 2010. No single party has a monopoly on the issues driving voter concerns. Both Labour and the Conservatives have weaknesses in how they and their leaders are perceived by the public. The election is positioned to be highly unpredictable with a fragmented vote.
Shifting ground: Changing attitudes to immigrationIpsos UK
This document discusses shifting attitudes towards immigration in Britain. It finds that:
1. People have become more positive about immigration in the last couple years, though most still want immigration levels reduced.
2. Those who are most "open to immigration" have the most stable views on the issue.
3. Cultural and economic interactions are important for understanding emerging political divisions related to immigration attitudes.

The 2013 Atlantic/Aspen Institute Annual American Values Survey: One Nation, ...Burson-Marsteller
With July 4th approaching, more than 60 percent of Americans say the nation is more divided as a country now than it was 10 years ago, with even higher percentages saying America is at least as fragmented now as it was during the Great Depression, Vietnam, and Watergate. And perhaps most strikingly, one in five Americans doubts that America will remain united as one country. Health care was one of the major public policy realms Delphi Polling measured in its most recent wave of research in late 2020.
The research was able to provide a greater understanding of where health care stood in relation to other major Canadian policy realms with respect to importance as well as:
• Which political party was seen as best suited to manage health care, the impacts of COVID-19 as well as pharmacare and prescription drug coverage.
• Whether government spending on the health care, mental health and prescription drug coverage should be increased, decreased or kept about the same as now.
• Whether the Canadian public had warm or cold feelings towards nurses and doctors.
This document provides an analysis of public opinion polling data related to the upcoming 2015 UK general election, which will take place one year from when this document was published. It finds that the election is very hard to predict given lack of precedent. The Conservative party currently has a narrow lead in polls but historical data shows the other party often wins in such a scenario. Voters are increasingly volatile and negative campaigning is unpopular. The economy and immigration are top issues but few think economic growth has benefited them personally. UKIP support seems focused on highlighting issues rather than being a realistic government option. The Conservatives face challenges around maintaining their lead, appealing to UKIP supporters, and dealing with an unpredictable electoral environment.
In 2019 our founder worked with a number of “mainstream” MPs who were frustrated by the rise of extremist politics. It was clear that influential Westminster figures were promoting “vote-winning” policies which were unlikely to be popular at all. It took a General Election before that unpopularity was proven.
In CanDo we use inexpensive modern consumer research tools extensively. Sometimes we buy ads on Facebook to invite people to fill in surveys. For other projects we use an automated research panel called PollFish. We usually pay less than £2 per response.
This inspired us: perhaps anyone concerned with politics could use the same tools to establish the popularity of policy ideas? We set out to prove that they can. Along the way we developed replicable methodology which anyone can use to conduct representative polls, within hours, for a few hundred pounds. Naturally, we used it ourselves - learning interesting things about which policy areas are deemed important by the public right now (and which aren’t).
Feel free to download our report and let us know if you decide to run any polls!
The document discusses the ongoing campaign to lower the UK's voting age from 18 to 16. [1] The campaign argues that 16- and 17-year-olds are mature enough to vote as they hold responsibilities in society and should have a say in decisions that affect their future. [2] However, others counter that most young people lack sufficient political knowledge and may be influenced by parents, posing the question of where to draw the line on the voting age. [3] Both sides present reasonable arguments for and against lowering the voting age.
An overview of our research project, designed to understand how UK consumers view charitable causes. The project was undertaken in collaboration with our charitable partners The Worldwide Tribe.

Open Source Contributions to Postgres: The Basics POSETTE 2024ElizabethGarrettChri
Postgres is the most advanced open-source database in the world and it's supported by a community, not a single company. So how does this work? How does code actually get into Postgres? I recently had a patch submitted and committed and I want to share what I learned in that process. I’ll give you an overview of Postgres versions and how the underlying project codebase functions. I’ll also show you the process for submitting a patch and getting that tested and committed.
