The ENHANCE project aimed to enhance the application of JISC outputs at UWIC. It sought to improve staff skills for technology enhanced learning and encourage use of new technologies. UWIC's Cardiff School of Management requires undergraduate students to complete work placements and maintain a reflective log of their experiences. Initially, an e-portfolio tool called Expo was used, but it had limitations. The ePPSME model was designed as a solution. It uses PebblePad webfolios to provide context-sensitive learning content, blogs, and an all-in-one learning platform to better support students during work placements. Feedback found that the ePPSME model increases engagement and helps students develop reflection skills.
This document describes an innovative approach used to teach programming techniques to repeat computer science students. Typically 35-45% of students fail the course the first time. The approach integrated flipped classroom and problem-based learning for repeat students. After implementing this approach in two student groups, the failure rate was reduced to 20% for the first group and 0% for the second group, showing improved performance over traditional teaching methods. The integration of these student-centered approaches for repeat students significantly improved learning outcomes.
