Intro
Types of Leaders
Leaders of the LAPD come in many types. Past and present leaders continue to shape the LAPD organization. There are leaders in every rank of the department, leaders who always strive to get better production from the department. Within each division in the department there are leaders of all kinds.
There are many different types of leaders. Some of the types of leaders include a pacesetter leader who leads by his example and expects his employees do as he does. This type of leader is great when the team is highly motivated and are skilled enough to perform the tasks as needed. Another type of leader utilizes a common vision to keep his employees focused on the end goal. This leader is referred to as the authorities leader and is great at redirecting the employees to keep them focused, however can backfire if the team is experts in their field.
A few more types of leaders are the affiliative leader who establishes an emotional bond and is able to create a family within the organization. This leader is able to put people ahead of anything else and is very focused during stressful times yet can cause poor performance due to a lack of vision. Another type of leader is one that is called a coaching leader, this leader is great at molding people to be future leaders. This leader has shortcomings when it comes to stubborn employees who are not willing to learn or change.
The last set of leaders are the coercive and democratic leaders. The coercive leader is stern and demands that things be done when he says so. This leader is very good in times of emergency, but struggles to keep followers due to the demanding style. The democratic leader allows the employees to think for themselves and contribute in the decision making process creating a sense of ownership of the plan. This type is not great in emergency situations however or when time is critical. (Benincasa, May )
Great leaders are able to switch between the different types of leadership styles to create the outcome that is desired, also preventing the unwanted outcomes that are the weak points of each leadership style. The LAPD will need each and every style of leadership to continue to be the great department that they are.

How Resources and Constraints Affect Decision-Making
When it comes to making decisions, there are always factors that will affect the process of making those decisions. There are different resources and constraints in the public protection service area, which affect the decision making of different leaders. Due to this, often times public leaders are forced to make the most minimal choices that can affect the community. The lack of resources can affect the way that both internal and external audiences function. Constraints can also affect all the many different programs and services that may be provided to the public protection service area. For example, some of the constraints can include t ...

The MTL Professional Development Programme is a collection of 202 PowerPoint presentations that will provide you with step-by-step summaries of a key management or personal development skill. This presentation is on "Master Communicators" and will show you why leaders need to be masters of communication.
A new research report published today by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) finds a public relations industry in which BAME practitioners tell of racism, microaggressions and unconscious biases faced, and having to work within an inflexible culture that denies them opportunities and fair progression.
The report - ‘Race in PR: BAME lived experiences in the UK PR industry’ - is calling on senior PR business leaders to take these findings seriously and work to change practices and cultures to “unleash talent and create a fair and equal workplace for all”.
Personal Interview with a Leader
The following is an interview I undertook with the Apple Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook.
1. Do you think a leader should be feared or liked?
In my opinion, a leader should always be liked and respected. It is crucial for a leader to be open-minded and be able to accommodate views from other people and the people he leads. A leader who is feared cannot be able to amicably communicate with his subject. The essence of communication needs not to be overemphasized. Effective communication is key to the success of any organization. The art of effective communication is only possible in a friendly environment. It is the responsibility of a leader to ensure there is such an environment in their area of leadership. In a nutshell, a leader should do all that they can to have those that serve under him like and respect him rather than fear him/her.
2. What is a leader’s best asset?
The best asset of a leader is the ability to assemble, motivate and inspire a team to work together towards achieving the goals of the organization. As I had mentioned earlier on, this will still zero down to effective communication of a leader. Effective communication will always matter for the successful leadership of any person.
3. What motivates you as a leader?
I get motivated when I learn that my organization is impacting positively the people in our society and yearn to get associated with our organization.
4. How can a leader fail? Have you ever failed as a leader?
A leader may fail if he becomes too obsessed with achieving the goals of an organization. This is through neglecting the welfare the team he or she is leading by, for example, failing to afford a safe working environment for the employee. Personally I have failed in the past but after learning the mistake I made I corrected it.
5. How do you motivate your team?
I get to interact with them at a personal level and discuss with them the problems they are experiencing and how best to solve them. I also reward them accordingly, and this motivates them to achieve better results.

I chose Apple Corporation because of exemplary work it is doing making it a household name. I wanted to find out what makes them be where they are. I have always admired Apple Corporation and their leadership that makes it very successful in the world. I interviewed the Chief Executive Officer because he is the one overseeing the overall performance of Apple Corporation. He works in close collaboration with the organization’s board of directors and other senior managers in the competent and smooth running of its day-to-day activities. Aspiring leaders should emulate the leadership of Apple Corporation for them to be successful in their business organization. The Board of Directors usually set standards that met with the success of the enterprise. They have various committees that establish guidelines followed plus its internal bylaws that guide their operation. The c ...

Call for Submissions to the FOC 'Donor Principles for Human Rights in the Digital Age'
In 2023, under the United States’ Chairship of the Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) and in line with the activities outlined in the 2023 Program of Action, the FOC aims to increase ties between FOC multilateral policy development and country-level development activities. In pursuit of this effort, the United States and Canada have revitalised the FOC Funding Coordination Group (FCG) - a multinational and multistakeholder coordination, strategic planning, and global norms setting mechanism focused on bridging foreign policymaking and international development.
Recognising the need for a clear normative framework to guide donors to help ensure that foreign assistance in the digital space advances, rather than undermines, democratic values and respect for human rights, the ‘Donor Principles for Human Rights in the Digital Age’ will fill this gap by establishing the normative basis for foreign assistance in the digital realm.

# Internet Security: Safeguarding Your Digital World
In the contemporary digital age, the internet is a cornerstone of our daily lives. It connects us to vast amounts of information, provides platforms for communication, enables commerce, and offers endless entertainment. However, with these conveniences come significant security challenges. Internet security is essential to protect our digital identities, sensitive data, and overall online experience. This comprehensive guide explores the multifaceted world of internet security, providing insights into its importance, common threats, and effective strategies to safeguard your digital world.
## Understanding Internet Security
Internet security encompasses the measures and protocols used to protect information, devices, and networks from unauthorized access, attacks, and damage. It involves a wide range of practices designed to safeguard data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Effective internet security is crucial for individuals, businesses, and governments alike, as cyber threats continue to evolve in complexity and scale.
### Key Components of Internet Security
1. **Confidentiality**: Ensuring that information is accessible only to those authorized to access it.
2. **Integrity**: Protecting information from being altered or tampered with by unauthorized parties.
3. **Availability**: Ensuring that authorized users have reliable access to information and resources when needed.
## Common Internet Security Threats
Cyber threats are numerous and constantly evolving. Understanding these threats is the first step in protecting against them. Some of the most common internet security threats include:
### Malware
Malware, or malicious software, is designed to harm, exploit, or otherwise compromise a device, network, or service. Common types of malware include:
- **Viruses**: Programs that attach themselves to legitimate software and replicate, spreading to other programs and files.
- **Worms**: Standalone malware that replicates itself to spread to other computers.
- **Trojan Horses**: Malicious software disguised as legitimate software.
- **Ransomware**: Malware that encrypts a user's files and demands a ransom for the decryption key.
- **Spyware**: Software that secretly monitors and collects user information.
### Phishing
Phishing is a social engineering attack that aims to steal sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details. Attackers often masquerade as trusted entities in email or other communication channels, tricking victims into providing their information.
### Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) Attacks
MitM attacks occur when an attacker intercepts and potentially alters communication between two parties without their knowledge. This can lead to the unauthorized acquisition of sensitive information.
### Denial-of-Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attacks

APNIC Foundation, presented by Ellisha Heppner at the PNG DNS Forum 2024APNIC
Ellisha Heppner, Grant Management Lead, presented an update on APNIC Foundation to the PNG DNS Forum held from 6 to 10 May, 2024 in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
1. Challenges of APRALO Policy Forum
1. Lack of speakers, we always had a shortage of speakers. This tied up for all the work. There is a
greater need of engagement and outreach required with the community
2. Communication challenges from the community to leaders to community. Better
communication strategy needed. It was always a one way communication from APRALO Policy
forum to staff to community
3. Policy forum is not just an update forum it has dynamics of learning understanding and acting.
These strategies need to be well developed and defined
4. Our engagement with community and ALSes is very less so we have to work on building that
5. Unable to showcase the potentiality of APRALO Policy forum to the new people
6. Having 30 people in the meeting is always a challenge
7. We have to work in our outreach and engagement
Solution
1. The liaisons should have a regular slot of update. Their roles and responsibilities should include
a must engagement in APRALO policy forum
2. Chair is not the speaker, the chair is the facilitator, we have to move beyond this ideology and
further work on better outreach and engagement
3. Experienced leaders needed in lead
4. System should be set to run APRALO policy forum
5. New young leaders should be promoted but there needs to be a growth and training program
by experienced leaders
Prepared by Shreedeep Rayamajhi submitted to the APRALO Leadership Team
