Recent studies have found the following in relation to glaucoma: 1) Certain yoga poses that cause increased intraocular pressure should be avoided by glaucoma patients as elevated pressure can damage the optic nerve. 2) Changes in gait and walking style may be early indicators of glaucoma before vision loss occurs. 3) Sleeping with the head elevated 20 degrees on a wedge pillow may help control glaucoma by reducing nighttime pressure on the eyes. Sleeping preferentially on one side with the affected eye facing down may worsen the condition. 4) Low vitamin D levels are linked to higher risk of developing open-angle glaucoma.
