The document discusses censorship and its four main types: withholding information, altering information, destroying information, and self-censorship. It provides examples of each type, such as Israel hiding details about detaining Palestinians, North Korea photoshopping images to promote positive views of Kim Jong Un, a North Korean official being responsible for removing articles about himself from state media, and a filmmaker saying major studios self-censored his film about government surveillance. The conclusion reflects on how censorship manipulates news and influences society without people realizing.
2. Definition
Censorship is when someone limits information or ideas in order to prevent the gain of knowledge or freedom of
thought.
There are four types of censorship:
● Withholding censorship
● Destroying information
● Altering Information
● Self-Censorship
Sometimes the censored material is considered to be obscene or insulting. Most of the time, censorship is meant to
protect three basic social institutions: the family, the church, and the state.

censorship-film-industry
Here, filmmaker of the upcoming Snowden film, which obviously talks about
Snowden, talks how his movie was turned down by major film studios. He says
that “It was definitely self-censorship. I don’t believe there was an enemy such
as the NSA lurking in the background but self-censorship is a huge issue in this
industry. Every film studio, the boards, rather than the executives, said no.”.
No major studios wanted to distribute the movie that talks about government
surveillance in real life.

15. Conclusion
This task was very important for us because we realized how the news are
manipulated, we have been learning about this the whole bimester and we
realized how important it is to understand how in a way we believe that us,
the common people, “rule” the world, but the media, the news and the
government actually rule us. These are perfect examples on how manipulated
our society lives. Censorship is a big part of our lives because everyday there
is censorship in the news, whether we realize it or not we are always
influenced by what we see and hear. As we saw before, media ownership not
only leads to bias but it also tends to involve censorship.
