Celebrity Stereotypes
I have read through five articles of celebrity gossip on blogger, Perez Hilton's website. Some of the articles were older and I also read the up to date
gossip. In my opinion, the function of celebrity gossip in today's society is to help the fame of any celebrity. The purpose of the negative or positive
information is only going to help or hurt the celebrity and in some cases, such as Janet Jackson's breast being reviled at the Super Bowl, helped her
more than it hurt her. As for blogs about celebrities helping maintain stability and order in our society, I believe that it serves no purpose and also
create false perceptions of the real world. Today's youth can easily be influenced by the celebrity gossip. The media and blogs create a distortion

Theme of Transformation in Emma
Emma also transforms into a proper woman through correcting her original neglect. Trollope states that "[i]n every passage of the book she is in fault
for some folly, some vanity, some ignorance, or indeed for some meanness" (7)19. Because of her ignorance toward attitudes of her neighbors, Emma
interferes through their lives in a way that makes them unhappy, for "she had often been negligent" (Austen 359)20. Mr. Knightley predicts the
outcome of Emma's plans in the beginning of the novel when he states that "[y]ou are more likely to have done harm to yourself, than good to them by
interference" (Austen 8)21 and also that "[v]anity working on a weak head produces every sort of mischief" (Austen 53)22. Not only is Emma

Eugene Goodheart views Emma's imagination as a "bending predilection in the antithesis of the romantic sympathetic imagination"36 because
Emma chooses to live in a world that she creates around herself, such as the fantasy that she can marry Harriet Smith off to Mr. Elton. "She has
come to realize to the full how her romantic attempts to marry Harriet such fantasies as to imagine Mr. Knightley in love with her; that the ideas of
social hierarchy which Emma had fostered are fantasy" (Brooke)37. Emma's immaturity only reforms when "Emma finds through her love of Mr.
Knightley that much of her snobbery is false and superficial" (Brooke)38, and Emma is forced into the reality of the hierarchical Victorian society,
where she "is instructed not only by Knightley but also by reality, which crushes her pride and forces her to abandon her delusional system"
(Paris)39. Her misunderstandings of people are also seen in her obsessiveness, for "Emma's 'humors' or obsessions are many, and they give rise to a
variety of mistakes and illusions" (Paris)40. Her obsessiveness within her own fantasy leads her to attempting to find a husband for Harriet, which
fails. When Emma finally realizes her mistakes, she is able to marry Knightley because "Emma has learned to balance power and propriety," which
reveals "Austen's ideal of a lady as a woman who is strong but not manipulative" (Kohn)41. Another sign of Emma's original misunderstandings of her
society are clear in her judgment. "Emma

Theme Of Romantic Love In Pride And Prejudice
E choing Austen's irony, it is a truth universally acknowledged that romantic literature will return to the refined days of Jane Austen and the BrontГ«
sisters. All mockery aside, Austen's celebrated Pride and Prejudice (1813) is a simple love story that continues to captivate audiences 200 years on.
Romantic literature has grown into modern, sloppy rom–coms – luckily, we can always return to their roots: the timeless allure of Elizabeth and Darcy.
Romantic love in literature re–emerged from the seedling of Pride and Prejudice; its light–hearted yet layered language was a well–deserved break from
the stultifying conventions of Regency England. Every romantic comedy since has echoed Austen's strong and vivacious heroine Elizabeth. Rather,
some of the most important ingredients of Pride and Prejudice's acclaim, are the reader's expectation of a small–world plot and eloquent manipulation
of style .
The growing movement of romanticism allowed Pride and Prejudice to be published in a world relatively alien to novels focussed on romantic love.
In fact, it was a world fairly alien to romantic love in general, allowing Austen to set a new archetype for romantic comedy.
In Regency England (ca. 1810–1821) it was considered dishonourable for a woman to be unmarried, as she would be a burden on her family.
Matrimony was usually arranged for social or financial benefit, rather than mutual respect or affection. In Charlotte Lucas' words, "happiness in
marriage is entirely a matter of

Character Analysis Of Emma's House, By George Knightley
The protagonist is called, Emma Woodhouse.
The first sentence of the novel describes her as a "handsome, clever, and rich girl, with a comfortable home and happy disposition", a sentence that I
immediately associated with the snobbish societies that were common in that period. That's why I wasn't looking forward to reading the rest of the
story. And my presumption was met in the first chapter where she only seemed to care about herself. She seemed to be a classic example of a
"menefreghista" as we say in Italian, that means that she is a person with an uncaring or couldn't–care–less attitude.
I was really surprised when things took a turn real quick and it wasn't just a story about a spoilt, rich girl, with rich–girls problems anymore. It ... Show

He is important in the story because he serves as a model of good sense and is the only one who openly critices Emma and points out all her flaws and
foibles. Not because he is bitter or enjoys making people feel down, but out of genuine concern and care for her. He therefor is my favorite character.
His unfailing honesty is tempered with tact and kindheartedness.
He has had some lapses of judgment and self–control, but they were only caused by his uncontrollable love for Emma. He immediately makes clear
that he doesn't like Frank and everyone knows Knightley just feels jealous and does not welcome the new rival. This jealousy causes Knightley to
behave very uncharacteristicly impulsive; he escapes to London to declare his love to Emma. This loss of control just makes clear that he is just a
normal human being with feelings.
Frank is the typical smooth bad boy, girls like so much. He epitomizes attractiveness in speech, manner, and appearance. A lot of people don't trust him,
but everyone except Knightley is charmed enough to indulge him. He really seems to be the manly version of Emma, that's probably why they get

Character Analysis of Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice Essay
Character Analysis: Mr. Darcy Introduced to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice as a tall, handsome, self–absorbed aristocrat, Darcy experiences a
change in personality and character. In order to dispose of his existent views on money and marriage, Darcy needed to feel something, to fall in love.
Although he was well mannered, he did not know how to treat women with respect, especially those of a lesser economic status. The love of Elizabeth
Bennet, however, changed his behavior. The reader is first acquainted with Mr. Darcy's arrogance at the Meryton Ball. Speaking of Elizabeth Bennet,
he so snobbishly says that she was, "В…tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me" (Austen 9). His feelings of superiority to the people of the
town... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These words spoken in such admiration of Elizabeth display the vastness of his change to something that seemed so important to him from the first
introduction of his character. Although Darcy's words revealed a large metamorphism in his disposition, his actions are more evident and show his
true ability to change. At Mr. Darcy's introduction to the novel he is immediately described as "В…haughty, reserved, and fastidious, and his
manners, though well bred, were not inviting" (Austen 12). Austen introduces Darcy with all of his pretentious nature. Following the Meryton ball,
Austen continues to display that unattractive nature of Darcy by comparing him to Bingley. "Darcy, on the contrary, had seen a collection of people
in whom there was little beauty and no fashion, for none of whom he had felt the smallest interest, and from none received either attention or
pleasure" (Austen 12). This statement reinforces the idea that Mr. Darcy is only concerned with talented women of great importance. It is Elizabeth,
however, who wins his heart with her liveliness and witty remarks. Falling in love with Miss Bennet caused Darcy to soften his actions and sweeten
his personality. One example is the letter he wrote to Elizabeth to explain his reasoning for his separating Elizabeth's older sister, Jane, and Mr.
Bingley. Never, before Lizzy, would Darcy admit to his mistakes or apologize to someone, especially someone who he felt was

A Brief Biography of Keira Knightley
Keira Knightley is a beautiful and talented British actress known for her complex and varied film roles. Her body of work has included drama as
well as comedic roles. She has earned the respect of many through her accomplished acting career and endearing personality; inspite of her many
personal struggles, she has maintained her status as a beloved hard working star and one of the most influential women in British Culture. Keira
Christina Knightley was born on March 26th, 1985 in the south London suburb of Richmond. Her conception came as a surprise to her parents
,Will and Sharman Knightley. Will and sharman were both heavily involved in showbusiness. Will was an actor and Sharman was an actress
turned playwright. The couple only planned on having one child, Keira's older brother Caleb, born in 1979. Even though she was a surprise her
parents couldn't have been happier to welcome another child to the family. Life was going as normal as possible for the Knightley's with their two
beautiful children. It was inevitable that Keira and Caleb would be raised in a household where writing and performing are very prevalent. Keira
asked for her first agent at the age of three. At the age of six she was diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is characterized by difficulty with learning to
read fluently and with understanding despite normal intelligence. It is the most common learning difficulty. Keira severely struggled with reading in

Theme Of Romance In Pride And Prejudice
Romance seems so urgent and delightful in Austen because marriage is a business, and her characters cannot help treating it as a pleasure. Pride and
Prejudice is the best of her novels because its romance involves two people who were born to be in love, and care not about business, pleasure, or
each other. It is frustrating enough when one person refuses to fall in love, but when both refuse, we cannot rest until they kiss.
Of course all depends on who the people are. When Dorothea marries the Rev. Casaubon in Eliot's Middlemarch, it is a tragedy. She marries out of
consideration and respect, which is all wrong; she should have married for money, always remembering that where money is, love often follows, since
there is so much time for it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie is more robust than most period romances; it is set earlier than usual, in the late 1700s, a period more down to earth than the early
Victorian years. The young ladies don't look quite so much like illustrations for Vanity Fair, and there is mud around their hems when they come
back from a walk. It is a time of rural realities: When Mrs. Bennet sends a daughter to visit Netherfield Park, the country residence of Mr. Bingley, she

Essay On Atonement
Adapted from Ian McEwan's novel Atonement. In 1935, thirteen–year–old Briony Tallis (Saoirise Ronan) changes the lives of her sister Cecilia (Keira
Knightley) and lover Robbie Tuner (James McAvoy). She accuses Robbie of a crime he didn't commit, which has damaging consequences and guilt
which affects Briony's entire life.
Cinematography is implemented in a variety of different ways to convey Briony's character. Even before the introduction of Briony, an overview of
her bedroom and of the dollhouse, filled with model figures carefully arranged, reveals much about her personality. This is the first evidence regarding
the creative yet manipulative personality of Briony. She has arranged her toys to replicate Noah's Ark, demonstrating the side... Show more content on

In the beginning of the film, 13–year–old Briony witnesses the sexual tension between her sister and Robbie; however, she does not completely
comprehend what she is seeing. As a result, this leads to the arrest of Robbie, as Briony believes that what she saw was he assaulting both her sister
and cousin Lola. This incident leads to the concept of perception in which lighting is utilised in a clever way to illustrate this. When Briony encounters
Cecilia and Robbie in the library, the light shone on half her face contrasts against the face shadowed on the other half. This is symbolic to her
perception of the situation, as she is only observing a portion of what has happened. As Briony is only aware of half of the complete situation, this
causes her to misjudge the event. Similarly, when she discovers Lola being assaulted, light is utilised through her torch – when she discovers Lola, the
torch blinds her momentarily, throwing her into the light and then darkness. This causes Briony to fade, emphasising the idea of how one's sight can
affect your perceptions. These events are critical, as Briony's incorrect perception of occasions is the catalyst for the whole film and the consequences
that are to come. Additionally, light is used when Briony goes to Paul Marshall– the man who assaulted Lola – and Lola's wedding. Briony gazes
upwards as light falls upon her from above, implying a sudden comprehension of her understanding of who assaulted Lola. Here, light depicts the
understanding of the truth. Throughout the film, light is used to illustrate various ideas, and it tells its own particular story underneath the action of the

Intersectional Analysis of Bend It Like Beckham
Intersectional analysis of Bend it Like Beckham. For this assignment, to make an intersectional analysis I decided to watch a movie. After
searching and thinking for a while I picked the movie Bend it Like Beckham, since a lot of elements in this movie are applicable on my own life
and I really could relate to one of the characters in the movie. As the title of the movie already implies, it is about football and takes place in
England. Jesminder is a Sikh, Indian girl from a very traditional Indian family. She is not interested in fashion, boys and her looks; the only thing she
is interested in is football. One time when she is playing in the park with her friends, who are all boys, Jules sees Jesminder play. Jules is an English,

That is so weird!' And without their knowledge of my sexuality, quite often people assumed I was a lesbian because I played football. Without
knowing any axes of my life, I was automatically put in a lower position, just because I am a girl who played football. This also is seen in the
movie. Jules has short hair, wears baggy clothes and plays football, and her mother overhears a conversation between Jules and Jess about love,
but she misinterprets it and thinks Jules is gay. The mother is very upset about her daughter being gay and when Jules tells she is not gay, the
mother is very relieved and then says there is nothing wrong with being gay. Even though she says that, she is still happy her own daughter is in
fact not a lesbian. This shows certain stereotypes towards girls that play football, have short hair and wear baggy clothes. Football is such a
gendered sport that it automatically leads to sexism, thinking girls who play football must be lesbian because they play a men's sport. Lesbianism is
also seen as something less good than being straight, seeing the mother is relieved her daughter is not a lesbian. The coach of the team, a young,
straight white man is ashamed to be the coach of a girl's team. He had to stop playing football due to an injury, and he wanted to do something with
football. He ended up

Jane Austen 's Emma, Madame Chapone 's Paradigms Regarding...
What is the ultimate purpose of friendship? What is the desired outcome– status, wealth, amusement, or perhaps, the betterment of morality?
In Jane Austen's Emma, Madame Chapone's paradigms regarding women mentoring young girls are delineated as a pertinent social guide since both
promote the cultivation of inner morality as the pinnacle of mentorship. Chapone accentuates that qualities and traits are cardinal for the assessment of
prospective mentors; and we see the calamity unfolding between Emma and Harriet Smith if these criteria are neglected. Austen concurs, and depicts
the ideal mentorship through Mr Knightley and Emma. Chapone, although she recommends an older woman as companion, does not dismiss the

"Emma could not resist. Ah! Ma'am but there may be a difficulty. Pardon me– but you will be limited as to number– only three at once"; Emma insults
Miss Bates, who is a dear friend, in order to quench her desire for social credit. When Mr Martin's proposal arrives for Harriet, Emma shakes her
head with disdain. Emma has the highest social status, apart from Knightley, and uses this to diminish those of lower class. Chapone asks us to
"Observe her manner to servants and inferiors" and whether she treats "them always with affability", but we know, Emma does not. Emma thinks Mr
Martin is a "very inferior creature" and when Harriet asks for advice Emma says "the letter had much better be all your own" but sneaks in "You need
not to be prompted to write the appearance of sorrow for his disappointment". Harriet refuses Martin, and Emma proclaims that Harriet, if she accepted,
would have been "confined to the society of the illiterate and vulgar" and "could not have visited Mrs. Robert Martin" since she deems the lower class
as unsophisticated primitives. Emma would have lost her latest amusement and her chance to prove her intelligence. Emma's subtle manipulations
illustrates the absence of inner morality, and is thus, an ill–qualified mentor.
A criteria instituted on character is more concrete and practical to determine the legitimacy of a mentor. A trait, such as good

Wherever one looks barraged by an advertisement or marketing ads. Whether you are appreciating a day of shopping or heading to work, promotions

There are numerous approaches to publicize an item, and ordinarily the similarities are self–evident. Analyzing commercials intently uncovers that
paying little respect to the likenesses and contrasts in notices, the primary motivation behind a promotion is to engage a specific group of onlookers.
Although both ads are selling fragrances, one is promoting a product for men and other is a promotion for women. Chane is "Coco Mademoiselle"
promotes sexyness and being sexually glamorous, while Tommy's Hilfiger's Bold is advertising manliness and athleticism. The intention of each Ad is
seen through its color, model's persona, and through facial expressions.
In the Coco Mademoiselle ad, the colors are explicitly more feminine, as well as elegant simultaneously; introducing colors of light pearl white on her
elegant beady dress, whereas the wallpaper is a taupe color. The color white is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity and it
is seen as the color of perfectionism. The color taupe is seen as a color of productivity while the majority of the focus on this ad is the white

Pirates Of The Caribbean Analysis
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski, is one of the most influential pieces of cinema in the disney
movie franchise. The movie was well received by the majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the movie,
like film critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic for Chicago Sun–Times, gave the movie three stars, there are
some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The article focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, Jack Sparrow
and Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of
his review bashing the action scenes and deeming them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert believes the movie was decent,
but went on for far too long, calling it, "a nice little 90–minute B movie trapped inside the 143 minutes of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the
Black Pearl" (rogerebert.com). There is an argument to be made about Roger Ebert's rollercoaster ride of a review on Pirates of the Caribbean: The
Curse of the Black Pearl, especially concerning his opinions on the performances of some of the actors and the fighting. While the performances of
Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp were indeed marvelous, Roger Ebert's opinion on the performance of Keira Knightley could not be more wrong.

Jane Austen 's Pride And Prejudice
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is described as "the advocacy of equality of the sexes and the establishment of the political,
social and economic rights of the female sex." It emphasizes the many ways women have been suppressed, repressed, and oppressed. Pride and
Prejudice, by Jane Austen, is about Elizabeth, a young middle–class woman who falls in love with Mr. Darcy, a rich, prideful man whom she has sworn
to loath based on a misguided first impression. Furthermore, it's about the unfairness of society and income. Based on the plot of the story and the
definition of feminism, Pride and Prejudice has aspects of feminism but is not considered a feminist film.
Most of the scenes in Pride and Prejudice are about men. But there are a couple of scenes between two or more women that allow the film to barely
pass the Bechdel test. For example, the conversation between Elizabeth and Miss Bingley at Netherfield. In this scene, these two women discuss the
requirements for a lady to be truly accomplished. According to Miss Bingley, "She must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing,
dancing, and the modern languages to deserve the word. And something in her air and manner of walking" (Pride and Prejudice 2005). Pride and
Prejudice also passes the Mako Mori test. According to The Atlantic, "the film has to have at least one female character with her own narrative arc that
is not about supporting a man's story" (Derr). The protagonist, Elizabeth

Jane Austen's "Emma"
Emma Woodhouse: Awake or Dreaming?
A dream. A world where ideas run wild and imagination is the primary mode of thought. Reality is a faraway distance. Eventually, the dream comes to
an end as reality creeps into sleep and the fantasy finishes. The story of Jane Austen's Emma is one of a similar account. Emma Woodhouse, the main
character, has an active imagination that causes her to loose sight of reality like getting lost in dreaming. Her imagination and "disposition to think a
little too well of herself" causes Emma to be emotionally arrogant and skews her perception of other characters (Austen, 1). Throughout the novel,
Emma struggles to develop emotionally because her dream–derived visions of those around her and her obsession with ... Show more content on

She even goes so far as keeping Harriet from marrying Mr. Martin, who both truly loves her and is closer to her in social status. While it is ultimately
Harriet's choice to decline Mr. Martin, Emma uses her popularity to influence the decision. "[T]hough Emma continued to protest against any assistance
being wanted [from Harriet], it was in fact given in the formation of every sentence" (34). Caught up in her self–appointed role as cupid, Emma ignores
the possibility that Harriet and Mr. Martin could ever live happily together. Upon hearing of Harriet's rejection to Mr. Martin, Knightley suspects
Emma's attempt to produce a match between Harriet and Mr. Elton. He warns Emma about the unlikelihood of Mr. Elton reducing himself to Harriet's
inferior position through marriage. While his warning causes Emma to momentarily doubt herself, she quickly erases these thoughts with "a
satisfaction which settled her with her own mind, and convinced her... she had done nothing which woman's friendship and woman's feelings would not
justify" (43). Evidently, Emma is easily able to dismiss Mr. Knightley's rational suggestions, satisfied with her own more amusing ideas. She remains
confident in her own imaginative schemes, letting that govern her conduct. As the novel progresses and Mr. Elton reveals Emma as the true object of
his affection, Emma's prediction and meddling proves to be a failure. In reflecting on her behavior, Emma notes,

Margaret : A Game Of Mother May I?
Education in Emma: A Game of "Mother May I?" It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen is the queen of depicting strong, independent
heroines and dashing, empathetic heroes, as well as their witty interactions with one another. However, at their core, Austen's novels are also about
complex mother–daughter relationships. During the 1800s, the education that girls received was mainly geared towards running a household and
finding wealthy husbands. As a result, mothers and governesses, who often held mother–like roles, were imperative to girls' education, both formal and
informal (Swords 80). In Pride and Prejudice, Mrs. Bennet takes every measure, for better or for worse, to ensure that her daughters find good
marriages in an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, as Emma matures, the audience gains an insight into the views of the time period toward women involved in education. The crux of
Emma focuses on Emma's relationship with Mrs. Weston, who, upon thenovel's opening, the narrator clearly indicates that Emma views as a mother:
"Her mother had died too long ago for her to have more than an indistinct remembrance of her caresses; and her place had been supplied by an
excellent woman as governess, who had fallen little short of a mother in affection" (Austen 1). In terms of life lessons, Mrs. Weston is the person
who influences Emma the most as she grows up. It is she who instills in her good manners and morals. She teaches her to be charitable to people,
no matter their social status. Her geniality and good breeding make her an ideal 18th century woman for Emma to emulate. Perhaps it is Mrs.
Weston's teachings that result in Emma frequently inviting Miss Bates, a poor widow, and Mrs. Goddard, a school principal, to her supper table.
However, it is not to be implied that Miss Taylor is the perfect motherly figure for Emma. The narrator notes that Miss Taylor fails to properly
administrate Emma by letting "Emma [do] just what she likes" (1), which results in Emma's major faults as a character, such as "having rather too
much her own way, and a disposition to think a little too well of herself" (1). Ultimately, it is the informal

Originally published in 1813, "Pride and Prejudice" can be recognized as Jane Austen's most popular novel in the romance genre. Through the years,

Pride And Prejudice Music Analysis
Pride & Prejudice, the quintessential classic that has inspired countless iterations, returned to film in 2005 with fresh faces Keira Knightley and
Matthew Macfadyen as protagonists Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Its widely lauded soundtrack, composed by Dario Marianelli, was nominated for
an Oscar in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category for Original Score, among other awards. If Marianelli and directorJoe
Wright's objective was to evoke music of the time period, they seem to have done just that. The Classical style matches the feel of Jane Austen novels
and the era in which Pride & Prejudice was written. The romantic relationship between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is also enhanced by the music. This
paper demonstrates that the soundtrack parallels the development of Lizzie and her feelings for Mr. Darcy. Lizzie's theme is a recurring element that
plots their relationship from introduction to inevitably happy end. Further, the theme of "Darcy's Letter", present in a number of scenes, helps to
depict when Lizzie begins to feel differently about Mr. Darcy. The diegetic playing of Lizzie's theme also offers an interesting look into the social
classes of the time and how they affected relationships. The most frequently occurring music in Pride & Prejudice is Lizzie's theme. During the
opening sequence, a bright morning is shown as birds chirp. Soft piano is heard pulsing and Lizzie walks on screen reading a book. The tempo hastens

Rhetorical Visual Analysis of Chanel Advertisement
Few people realize the true impact of product advertising, but the truth is that the modern consumer is severely affected and often subconsciously
influenced by advertisements, especially if it is a quality and persuasive advertisement. But how does one create an effective ad? That is literally the
million–dollar question that keeps the advertising industry so competitive and prosperous. The French fashion house, Chanel, has constructed a striking
and persuasive image to lure the public into desiring and ultimately purchasing its product through the appeal of ethos and effective visual tools.

In order to maintain its credibility, Chanel has had a number of illustrious celebrity endorsers, including model Kate Moss, actresses Nicole Kidman,
Audrey Tautou, and now Keira Knightley. By having such a renowned face for its latest fragrance, Chanel has not only accomplished the feat of
maintaining its credibility, but it has enticed the viewer.
Though the advertisement is already very strong because of this prior ethos, it is even further enhanced by its selective visual implementations. The
medium of this advertisement is photography. This was chosen because only photography is able to portray a completely realistic image. By expressing
a realistic image, Chanel suggests that this image, look, beauty, and glamour is achievable for any woman. Chanel makes the assumption that every
woman wishes to have such qualities and will go to many lengths in order to achieve them, such as buying their product. In order to affectively convey
these desired qualities, Knightly is photographed wearing light makeup, except for the dark smokey shadow encompassing the flesh around her eyes,
suggesting drama and allure. Knightly has a sensual yet penetratingly powerful and confident expression. The composition of the photograph is
mapped so that Knightley's eyes first capture the viewer and then their attention is pulled up to the text in the top right corner, then down towards the

of 6, he became a lament ridden, wasted out man. He never did talk to anyone, about anything. But when his business starts going down his associates
Claire, Whit, and Simon begin to look for answers. They find these answers in Howard's letters to the universe, more specifically Time, Love, and
Death. One one fateful occasion Whit meets these three actors (Keira Knightley who plays Amy, Helen Mirren who plays Brigitte, and Jacob
Latimore who plays Raffi) and begins thinking. He tells his plan to his colleagues and they go with it. They hire the actors to play Time, Love, and
Death. Once the plan is over and the business is in good hands is when you get to find out more about his daughter and his ex–wife. Music is a key
element in any film, but especially in tear jerking films like this one. Theodore Shapiro did the sound work for this film. The whole soundtrack for
this film flows together perfectly. In the opening scene of the movie Howard walks away from the falling dominos and the song that plays fits the
mood, the action of what Howard is doing, and the lighting. He worked with non–diegetic sound in an ingenious way. But his work with diegetic sound
was okay, there was potential to be better and it's not horrible there's just some space for improvement. However, everything balances out and the sound
in this movie is

Theme Of Marriage In Pride And Prejudice
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, despite being written epochs ago, still resonates within the hearts of contemporary readers today. Pride and Prejudice
has been adapted into films due to its immense popularity. Joe Wright's 2005 rendition starring Keira Knightly and Gurrinder Chadha's Bollywood
interpretation explore the universally acknowledged writing of Jane Austen, both having different approaches to depicting the setting, characterisation,
thematic concerns and storytelling, yet both are successful at maintaining Pride and Prejudice's aura of marriage, social class, and vanity.
In Austen's Pride and Prejudice, inadequate time is spent on the description of the setting and in the beginning we are simultaneously bombarded with
the gossip of 'a young man of large fortune' occupying the prestigious and lavish Netherfield Park. The austere social structure stands out in the
opening, and we grasp its outlook on the importance of marriage. Wright's adaptation has a rather tranquil setting in its opening scene. A panning
longshot of a serene English countryside immersed in soft light, brings sense of warmth and wistfulness. While the havoc of the Bennet's estate is
suspended, not being the opening scene as in the classic novel, we still see the much anticipated shambolic yet hearty appearance of the family home.
Chadha also conveys thorough exemplification of the setting yet has an almost contrary appearance compared to that of Joe Wright's. Chadha's
opening scene shows us

Interrelationships in Joe Wright's Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007)
Joe Wright (London, 1972 – ) is an internationally acclaimed English film director. He is particularly famous for the cinematic adaptations of two
major works within English Literature; that is, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Ian McEwan's Atonement (2001). In the following essay, I
shall discuss the interrelationships that can be found between the two, with a special focus on the central motifs, the audio–visuals, the cast and crew
and lastly, the angle taken by Wright himself on his own cinematic production.
Pride and Prejudice and Atonement's central motifs are to some extent alike. In Pride and Prejudice, the couple has to hurdle both Darcy's pride and
Elizabeth's derisive prejudice towards him so that they fulfil their love. In Atonement, love is also an important theme, yet Cecilia and Robbie's
relationship is portrayed quite differently. In Pride and Prejudice, love and desire are portrayed in a more sentimental and chaste manner whereas in
Atonement the portrait is much more troublesome and passionate. The historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As regards soundtrack, both films share composer – Dario Marianelli. Concerning camerawork, the steadicam tracking shot should be highlighted. It is
used in both films, in Pride and Prejudice for example, it is used at the beginning of the narrative when Elizabeth goes through the laundry and we
enter to the house for the first time, and it is also used at one of the balls. In Atonement, this shot is used to portray a clear image of the war. The use
of these shots give the viewer a sense of being inside the story; they engage viewers in the narrative. Besides, when Wright was asked at the Toronto
Film Festival whether such shots excited him when he is watching a film, he

Emma Essay
The reader's response to Emma is often a mixture of sympathy and impatience. Select two episodes and discuss them in regards to this statement.
Continually throughout Emma the reader feels a mixture of sympathy and impatience for its main character Emma Woodhouse. The novel illustrates
her vast change in maturity, which occurs in one year. Due toEmma's personality and disposition she will always get herself into difficult
circumstances, but it is the way she reacts to the circumstances that broadens and matures her character. The first episode takes place when she is in the
throws of naivety, and the other is when Emma has begun to mature and grow.

She even dictates the answer, and here she is becoming too involved with Harriet's affairs. Even though Emma takes over the narration from
Jane Austen, the reader is able to see through Emma's faults and see that Robert Martin is a very amiable man who would make a very good husband
for Harriet. Emma ends up writing Harriet's refusal and this sparks off further impatience because now Harriet, who is doting on
Emma's every word, is turning into a product of what Emma has told her rather than her true self.
Emma also refuses to heed Mr. Knightley's warnings when he states that, 'men of sense, whatever you may chuse to say, do not want silly wives,'
obviously referring to Harriet. Emma is so wrapped up in her created fantasy world that she fails to recognise the fact that Mr.
Elton is unlikely to lower himself to be with Harriet. Emma thinks that she is right and her self–confidence and pride prevent her from listening to an
objective source. Whenever Harriet seemed about to think or talk of Robert Martin, Emma made her think of Mr. Elton and so the infatuation grew.
Without fully realising it, Emma may have destroyed the possible relationship between Harriet and Mr.

Rather, Emma intends to play relational arranger for Harriet and Mr. Elton, the vicar of the congregation in

Jane Austen 's Pride And Prejudice
Over the years there have been many adaptions to Jane Austen's: Pride and Prejudice; two well–known versions would be Sue Birtwistle's 1995 BBC
miniseries and Joe Wright's 2005 version. Both films depict a love story between a man and a woman who have to overcome a series of obstacles to
end up together. It is clear that these two very different directors interpret the original novel in their own way, but is it more important to stay true to
the original, or to tweak and change some of it? When it comes to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Birthwistle's 1995 version works because she
portrayed her characters really well. Had enough time to develop her characters and setting, while also making a version not only for Great Britain, but

Elizabeth loathes Mr. Darcy, and avoids him as much as possible. Though Darcy is proud and reserved at first, it becomes obvious of his fondness for
Elizabeth. Fate causes Elizabeth and Darcy to often cross paths, making them realize their hidden feelings for each other.
One of the First things, Wright gets wrong, is his portrayal of Mr. Darcy, one of Jane Austen's most famous male protagonist. Mr. Darcy is known as
a proud, snobbish character. In her novel Austen's first description goes as follows. "He soon drew the attention of the room by his fine, tall person,
handsome features, noble mien." However, he is soon found to be and extremely disagreeable, proud man with no consideration for anyone."
(Austin10) However, in Wright's adaptation of Pride and Prejudice Darcy becomes a socially awkward man struggling with his emotions. Wright
wanted "a big strong, manly man, not some pretty boy band type" (DeGennaro "Wright Interview). If the nature of Mr. Darcy changes, it will change
the feel of the story. Without Darcy, there would be no Pride and Prejudice, for he is the one who drives Elizabeth and essentially their love story.
While Bitwistle was filming she kept this in mind. She choose to portray Darcy as Austin wrote him to be, a mysterious and unpredictable character.
In her version he does not smile until the very last scene of the movie, but that does not hinder the impression of his softening over the course of the
movie and at no

Essay on Victorian Era Ideologies
The Victorian era which lasted during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, established the foundations of many social, cultural and moral
ideologies in which many are present to this day. Everywhere you look you can almost always see something Victorian–inspired from floral patterned
curtains to elegantly hand crafted candlesticks. When visualizing 'The Victorian Era' lavish balls, lace covered dresses, tea parties and fancy lifestyles
come to mind. However, the Victorian era is much more than this. Victorians were judgmental, proud and often selfish people, as their biggest goal in
life was usually to make and/or keep a name for themselves which meant marrying their daughters off to rich, aristocrats to preventing their family ...

The film expresses themes of romance, reputation and class. The Bennet family is middle–upper class they live in a large, lavish country house. The
Bingley's live in a vast manor with very expensive looking furnishings. They have many servants and the house is very clean unlike the Bennet's
which is cluttered and crowded with loose belongings. When Elizabeth goes to visit her sister, Jane, at the Bingley's manor she arrives in muddy
skirts due to walking in the rain. However, she appears callous to the fact that Caroline Bingley is appalled by her un–ladylike attire, stating to Darcy
'She looked positively medieval'. Elizabeth is a bold, proud and spirited young woman who believes in marrying for love rather than reputation or
social climbing. Elizabeth's pride causes her to misjudge Mr Darcy based on his unsocial attitude while Darcy's prejudice towards Elizabeth's poor
social standing blinds him from her virtues. Despite their mutual dislike at first, Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love; implying that Austen views love as
something independent of social forces, something two individuals can capture if they escape the vortex of hierarchical society. Austen also voices a
more realistic – even cynical – view on love when Elizabeth's friend Charlotte marries Mr Collins, the pompous but wealthy clergyman which
demonstrates the heart does

Relationship Between Emma Woodhouse And George Knightley
This essay will analyse the relationship between Emma Woodhouse and George Knightley in the text Emma from a feminist perspective. The
relationship in general contains two different personalities. Emma is one who believes that she can create the 'perfect couple', which gives her the
belief of 'knowing everything'. George Knightley is more of a moral compass for Emma, and he usually displays his approval and disapproval of her
actions. Before the relationship is examined; it would be insightful to reflect on the social context that the text is set in like the system of patriarchy,
and the expectation of women from certain wealthy families.
The Elizabethan era was marked by the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558–1603). This era in English history has often been regarded as a golden age of
the time. This was due to ideas of national pride, many reforms in areas of society, and the use of theatre alongside William Shakespeare (1564–1616).
This society was however set within the confines of patriarchy.
Emma is also set within the confines of a patriarchal Elizabethan era society. Even though the text was written after the time of Queen Elizabeth I and
Shakespeare because Jane Austen lived about 100 years after the two (1775–1817). The idea of patriarchy was one notion that continued. Patriarchy is
defined as, "A system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is traced through the male line".

The Freedom Of Travelling On Horseback
To Arthur there was nothing like the freedom of travelling on horseback. The few times when he sat in the car and watched Merlin steer their way
across the countryside along the roads it felt unsatisfying to him. The world passed by the windows too fast for Arthur to take in his new
surroundings. He needed to feel the elements around him, like the sun on his face or the wind blowing into his hair as it did today. Here in the
wide open air it smelled like humid soil, grass and flowers. That was far better to him then the confined feel and the awful smell of the car. Not to
mention that he still did not trust the machine. It had the power to kill as far as he was concerned, and it put the fear in him. For some reason he
could not get passed the image of how close he came losing Gwaine to one... Arthur steered his horse through known territory as fast as he dared.
The thrilling gallop made him feel alive again. In the last few hours he had felt more like his old self than ever since he came to this century. This
century... it still stunned him that so much time had passed in a matter of what felt like days to him. The way Camelot got snapped away from him
in a blip of time made him feel as if part of his heart was ripped out. For his entire life he had known nothing else than it. He fought for his people
and protected it with every fibre of his being. To be left without such a cause and without the love of his people, including his friends, was just too
much to bear at times.

Comparison Between Juxtapose France And United Kingdom's...
Due to the amount of advertisements a person sees every day, almost everywhere, the United States law does not regulate it. France and the United
Kingdom have increased "regulation of advertising practices" (O'Neil, 3). This includes "digital manipulation of photographs in advertisements that can
mislead consumers about product performance. Self–regulatory bodies in both countries have pushed to ban cosmetic advertisements for misleading
consumers in this way" (O'Neil, 3). However due to the first amendment, – the right to freedom of speech – the U.S. lacks stronger regulations
juxtapose France and the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom's regulation for advertisement does not allow for foreign advertisers to advertise in
their country unless obeying their rules – not laws.
Quoted by O'Neil, the United Kingdom formed a system, called Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which is:
"...a system of self–regulation of the advertising industry that is run by a nongovernmental regulatory body...[that is] based on the CAP Code (Code), a
set of rules developed by the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP). CAP has promulgated two different codes, one for broadcast advertising and

system as an "established means" to protect consumers from false and misleading advertising. This system acts as the frontline for advertising
regulation and often is the most efficient way to resolve issues about advertising content" (4). This self–run system is powerful and effective for the
bettering of the people. The United States constitutions begins with the words, "We the people..." therefore it should improve advertising regulations
because it is for the people's benefit of not misleading

Negative Impact On Social Media
The use of technology and social media has become very prevalent in the 21st century. Almost everyone in the United States owns some kind of
social media account. According to Statista.com, "In 2017, 81 percent of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a five percent
growth compared to the previous year." While the number of users increases every year, it seems as though the number of people who prefer to live
in the "virtual world" also increases. I believe that social media sites create isolation for all individuals. There are so many distractions on these sites
that most people cannot even focus on the present. These sites also provide an illusion of companionship. While many believe they are finding their
"soulmates" online, in reality they are only living in a fantasy. A person's self–image is also affected by social media. Some believe that all the "likes"
and "comments" can boost self–confidence, but if you are not receiving any of these things, then what is the point. Social media has drastically
changed our ability to stay focused on what is going on in our immediate vicinity. Students are religiously connecting themselves to these sites and are
continuously signing online to check their status, some could even say that they are addicted. Even while in class, students are on their laptops or
smartphones and spend the majority of their time checking their 'home page' and partially (if at all) listening to the lecture of their teachers. The partial

The Imitation Game : The Imitation Game By Alan Turing
Determination, vulnerability, and secrets are seen all throughout the 2014 movie "The Imitation Game." The film which was directed by Morten
Tyldum and a screenplay by Graham Moore, depicts the life of the unusual man Alan Turing and his involvement with Allied victory during World
War II. The biopic ranging at two hours follows Turing and the sacrifices he willing to make to break Germany's unbreakable Enigma code during
World War II. Turing along with a group of unknown British scholars work desperately day and night under pressure to achieve this victory which
ultimately ends in a tragedy. Alan Turing was a brilliant mathematician, but he lived with the insecurity of hiding his homosexuality. In the Oscar
nominated film taking place in London World War II era, Alan Turing races against the clock to invent a revolutionary machine that would shorten the
war by nearly two years and save the lives of thousands.
The historical thriller is dramatic, suspenseful, exciting, and a bit bizarre at times as it depicts the "expect the unexpected" mindset Alan Turing
had. The movie was inspired by the book Alan Turing: The Enigma of Intelligence written by Andrew Hodges. I have not read the book but from
reviews written by other critics the movie does not bring justice of turning the book into a movie and is a poor representation of Alan Turing. I found
the movie to be entertaining yet confusing. When books are turned into a movie it should give viewers a sense of the person's life with meaning. I
found myself drawn into Alan Turing's life but at times I just couldn't make sense of it. From beginning to end, The Imitation Game keeps viewers
engaged wondering what will happen next. If you want to see a well–acted British movie about a historical genius go see Morten Tyldum's The
Imitation game, but if you want the real insight on Alan Turing you might be better off reading the book.
The acting is brilliant, I enjoyed watching the film. The cast is led by Benedict Cumberbatch who does an excellent job embracing Alan Turing. The
irony of his character in this film is that he plays a man who is a war hero genius, and pioneered as the father of computer science, yet he lives with
vulnerabilities and is tortured

Pride And Prejudice By Joe Wright
The stories about the football player falling in love with the shy girl, the prince falling in love with a servant girl, or where the rich guy falls in
love with a poor girl is most often seen in movies and books. These stories all present issue about how divided social classes are. Focus Pictures'
version of the famous Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice directed by Joe Wright and won numerous awards for best actress, production design, best
motion picture, and many more. The trailer for Pride and Prejudice made it seem as though this was just going to be a love story between a rich man
named Darcy, played by Matthew MacFadyen and a poor girl named Elizabeth Bennet, played by Keira Knightley, but overall it wasn't just that. Under
that story lies an overwhelming amount of social conflict, ideas spreading from the feminist theory, to marriage, to most importantly social class. The
story looks into the Bennet family and their situation. They are about to lose all their land, and society in their time is patriarchal based in that only
eldest son receives entailment to their real–estate. However, the real problem comes from the fact that Mr. Bennett has five daughters! Mr. and Mrs.
Bennett marry their daughters off to men with power and money so they can ensure that they are financially secured. In this era women had no choice
but to marry young, dues to the face they didn't have as many job opportunities. On top of that if they hadn't been married they would have been
mocked.

Celebrity Stereotypes

  • 1. Celebrity Stereotypes I have read through five articles of celebrity gossip on blogger, Perez Hilton's website. Some of the articles were older and I also read the up to date gossip. In my opinion, the function of celebrity gossip in today's society is to help the fame of any celebrity. The purpose of the negative or positive information is only going to help or hurt the celebrity and in some cases, such as Janet Jackson's breast being reviled at the Super Bowl, helped her more than it hurt her. As for blogs about celebrities helping maintain stability and order in our society, I believe that it serves no purpose and also create false perceptions of the real world. Today's youth can easily be influenced by the celebrity gossip. The media and blogs create a distortion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Theme of Transformation in Emma Emma also transforms into a proper woman through correcting her original neglect. Trollope states that "[i]n every passage of the book she is in fault for some folly, some vanity, some ignorance, or indeed for some meanness" (7)19. Because of her ignorance toward attitudes of her neighbors, Emma interferes through their lives in a way that makes them unhappy, for "she had often been negligent" (Austen 359)20. Mr. Knightley predicts the outcome of Emma's plans in the beginning of the novel when he states that "[y]ou are more likely to have done harm to yourself, than good to them by interference" (Austen 8)21 and also that "[v]anity working on a weak head produces every sort of mischief" (Austen 53)22. Not only is Emma stubborn toward her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eugene Goodheart views Emma's imagination as a "bending predilection in the antithesis of the romantic sympathetic imagination"36 because Emma chooses to live in a world that she creates around herself, such as the fantasy that she can marry Harriet Smith off to Mr. Elton. "She has come to realize to the full how her romantic attempts to marry Harriet such fantasies as to imagine Mr. Knightley in love with her; that the ideas of social hierarchy which Emma had fostered are fantasy" (Brooke)37. Emma's immaturity only reforms when "Emma finds through her love of Mr. Knightley that much of her snobbery is false and superficial" (Brooke)38, and Emma is forced into the reality of the hierarchical Victorian society, where she "is instructed not only by Knightley but also by reality, which crushes her pride and forces her to abandon her delusional system" (Paris)39. Her misunderstandings of people are also seen in her obsessiveness, for "Emma's 'humors' or obsessions are many, and they give rise to a variety of mistakes and illusions" (Paris)40. Her obsessiveness within her own fantasy leads her to attempting to find a husband for Harriet, which fails. When Emma finally realizes her mistakes, she is able to marry Knightley because "Emma has learned to balance power and propriety," which reveals "Austen's ideal of a lady as a woman who is strong but not manipulative" (Kohn)41. Another sign of Emma's original misunderstandings of her society are clear in her judgment. "Emma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Romantic Love In Pride And Prejudice E choing Austen's irony, it is a truth universally acknowledged that romantic literature will return to the refined days of Jane Austen and the BrontГ« sisters. Romantic love in literature re–emerged from the seedling of Pride and Prejudice; its light–hearted yet layered language was a well–deserved break from the stultifying conventions of Regency England. Every romantic comedy since has echoed Austen's strong and vivacious heroine Elizabeth. Rather, some of the most important ingredients of Pride and Prejudice's acclaim, are the reader's expectation of a small–world plot and eloquent manipulation of style . In Charlotte Lucas' words, "happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of ... • 4. Character Analysis Of Emma's House, By George Knightley The protagonist is called, Emma Woodhouse. The first sentence of the novel describes her as a "handsome, clever, and rich girl, with a comfortable home and happy disposition", a sentence that I immediately associated with the snobbish societies that were common in that period. That's why I wasn't looking forward to reading the rest of the story. And my presumption was met in the first chapter where she only seemed to care about herself. She seemed to be a classic example of a "menefreghista" as we say in Italian, that means that she is a person with an uncaring or couldn't–care–less attitude. I was really surprised when things took a turn real quick and it wasn't just a story about a spoilt, rich girl, with rich–girls problems anymore. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is important in the story because he serves as a model of good sense and is the only one who openly critices Emma and points out all her flaws and foibles. He immediately makes clear that he doesn't like Frank and everyone knows Knightley just feels jealous and does not welcome the new rival. This jealousy causes Knightley to behave very uncharacteristicly impulsive; he escapes to London to declare his love to Emma. This loss of control just makes clear that he is just a normal human being with feelings. Frank is the typical smooth bad boy, girls like so much. He epitomizes attractiveness in speech, manner, and appearance. A lot of people don't trust him, but everyone except Knightley is charmed enough to indulge him. He really seems to be the manly version of Emma, that's probably why they get along so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Character Analysis of Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice Essay Character Analysis: Mr. Darcy Introduced to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice as a tall, handsome, self–absorbed aristocrat, Darcy experiences a change in personality and character. In order to dispose of his existent views on money and marriage, Darcy needed to feel something, to fall in love. Although he was well mannered, he did not know how to treat women with respect, especially those of a lesser economic status. The love of Elizabeth Bennet, however, changed his behavior. The reader is first acquainted with Mr. Darcy's arrogance at the Meryton Ball. Speaking of Elizabeth Bennet, he so snobbishly says that she was, "В…tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me" (Austen 9). His feelings of superiority to the people of the town... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These words spoken in such admiration of Elizabeth display the vastness of his change to something that seemed so important to him from the first introduction of his character. Although Darcy's words revealed a large metamorphism in his disposition, his actions are more evident and show his true ability to change. At Mr. Darcy's introduction to the novel he is immediately described as "В…haughty, reserved, and fastidious, and his manners, though well bred, were not inviting" (Austen 12). Austen introduces Darcy with all of his pretentious nature. Following the Meryton ball, Austen continues to display that unattractive nature of Darcy by comparing him to Bingley. "Darcy, on the contrary, had seen a collection of people in whom there was little beauty and no fashion, for none of whom he had felt the smallest interest, and from none received either attention or pleasure" (Austen 12). This statement reinforces the idea that Mr. Darcy is only concerned with talented women of great importance. It is Elizabeth, however, who wins his heart with her liveliness and witty remarks. Falling in love with Miss Bennet caused Darcy to soften his actions and sweeten his personality. One example is the letter he wrote to Elizabeth to explain his reasoning for his separating Elizabeth's older sister, Jane, and Mr. Bingley. Never, before Lizzy, would Darcy admit to his mistakes or apologize to someone, especially someone who he felt was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Brief Biography of Keira Knightley Keira Knightley is a beautiful and talented British actress known for her complex and varied film roles. Her body of work has included drama as well as comedic roles. She has earned the respect of many through her accomplished acting career and endearing personality; inspite of her many personal struggles, she has maintained her status as a beloved hard working star and one of the most influential women in British Culture. Keira Christina Knightley was born on March 26th, 1985 in the south London suburb of Richmond. Her conception came as a surprise to her parents ,Will and Sharman Knightley. Will and sharman were both heavily involved in showbusiness. Will was an actor and Sharman was an actress turned playwright. The couple only planned on having one child, Keira's older brother Caleb, born in 1979. Even though she was a surprise her parents couldn't have been happier to welcome another child to the family. Life was going as normal as possible for the Knightley's with their two beautiful children. It was inevitable that Keira and Caleb would be raised in a household where writing and performing are very prevalent. Keira asked for her first agent at the age of three. At the age of six she was diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is characterized by difficulty with learning to read fluently and with understanding despite normal intelligence. It is the most common learning difficulty. Keira severely struggled with reading in school, and her parents quickly took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theme Of Romance In Pride And Prejudice Romance seems so urgent and delightful in Austen because marriage is a business, and her characters cannot help treating it as a pleasure. Pride and Prejudice is the best of her novels because its romance involves two people who were born to be in love, and care not about business, pleasure, or each other. It is frustrating enough when one person refuses to fall in love, but when both refuse, we cannot rest until they kiss. Of course all depends on who the people are. When Dorothea marries the Rev. Casaubon in Eliot's Middlemarch, it is a tragedy. She marries out of consideration and respect, which is all wrong; she should have married for money, always remembering that where money is, love often follows, since there is so much time for it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movie is more robust than most period romances; it is set earlier than usual, in the late 1700s, a period more down to earth than the early Victorian years. The young ladies don't look quite so much like illustrations for Vanity Fair, and there is mud around their hems when they come back from a walk. • 8. Essay On Atonement Adapted from Ian McEwan's novel Atonement. In 1935, thirteen–year–old Briony Tallis (Saoirise Ronan) changes the lives of her sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and lover Robbie Tuner (James McAvoy). She accuses Robbie of a crime he didn't commit, which has damaging consequences and guilt which affects Briony's entire life. Cinematography is implemented in a variety of different ways to convey Briony's character. Even before the introduction of Briony, an overview of her bedroom and of the dollhouse, filled with model figures carefully arranged, reveals much about her personality. This is the first evidence regarding the creative yet manipulative personality of Briony. She has arranged her toys to replicate Noah's Ark, demonstrating the side... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning of the film, 13–year–old Briony witnesses the sexual tension between her sister and Robbie; however, she does not completely comprehend what she is seeing. As a result, this leads to the arrest of Robbie, as Briony believes that what she saw was he assaulting both her sister and cousin Lola. This incident leads to the concept of perception in which lighting is utilised in a clever way to illustrate this. When Briony encounters Cecilia and Robbie in the library, the light shone on half her face contrasts against the face shadowed on the other half. This is symbolic to her perception of the situation, as she is only observing a portion of what has happened. As Briony is only aware of half of the complete situation, this causes her to misjudge the event. Similarly, when she discovers Lola being assaulted, light is utilised through her torch – when she discovers Lola, the torch blinds her momentarily, throwing her into the light and then darkness. This causes Briony to fade, emphasising the idea of how one's sight can affect your perceptions. These events are critical, as Briony's incorrect perception of occasions is the catalyst for the whole film and the consequences that are to come. Additionally, light is used when Briony goes to Paul Marshall– the man who assaulted Lola – and Lola's wedding. Briony gazes upwards as light falls upon her from above, implying a sudden comprehension of her understanding of who assaulted Lola. Here, light depicts the understanding of the truth. Throughout the film, light is used to illustrate various ideas, and it tells its own particular story underneath the action of the main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Intersectional Analysis of Bend It Like Beckham Intersectional analysis of Bend it Like Beckham. For this assignment, to make an intersectional analysis I decided to watch a movie. After searching and thinking for a while I picked the movie Bend it Like Beckham, since a lot of elements in this movie are applicable on my own life and I really could relate to one of the characters in the movie. As the title of the movie already implies, it is about football and takes place in England. Jesminder is a Sikh, Indian girl from a very traditional Indian family. She is not interested in fashion, boys and her looks; the only thing she is interested in is football. One time when she is playing in the park with her friends, who are all boys, Jules sees Jesminder play. Jules is an English, white... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is so weird!' And without their knowledge of my sexuality, quite often people assumed I was a lesbian because I played football. Without knowing any axes of my life, I was automatically put in a lower position, just because I am a girl who played football. This also is seen in the movie. Jules has short hair, wears baggy clothes and plays football, and her mother overhears a conversation between Jules and Jess about love, but she misinterprets it and thinks Jules is gay. The mother is very upset about her daughter being gay and when Jules tells she is not gay, the mother is very relieved and then says there is nothing wrong with being gay. Even though she says that, she is still happy her own daughter is in fact not a lesbian. This shows certain stereotypes towards girls that play football, have short hair and wear baggy clothes. Football is such a gendered sport that it automatically leads to sexism, thinking girls who play football must be lesbian because they play a men's sport. Lesbianism is also seen as something less good than being straight, seeing the mother is relieved her daughter is not a lesbian. The coach of the team, a young, straight white man is ashamed to be the coach of a girl's team. He had to stop playing football due to an injury, and he wanted to do something with football. • 10. Jane Austen 's Emma, Madame Chapone 's Paradigms Regarding... What is the ultimate purpose of friendship? What is the desired outcome– status, wealth, amusement, or perhaps, the betterment of morality? In Jane Austen's Emma, Madame Chapone's paradigms regarding women mentoring young girls are delineated as a pertinent social guide since both promote the cultivation of inner morality as the pinnacle of mentorship. Chapone accentuates that qualities and traits are cardinal for the assessment of prospective mentors; and we see the calamity unfolding between Emma and Harriet Smith if these criteria are neglected. Austen concurs, and depicts the ideal mentorship through Mr Knightley and Emma. Chapone, although she recommends an older woman as companion, does not dismiss the potential intimacy between ... Pardon me– but you will be limited as to number– only three at once"; Emma insults Miss Bates, who is a dear friend, in order to quench her desire for social credit. When Mr Martin's proposal arrives for Harriet, Emma shakes her head with disdain. Emma has the highest social status, apart from Knightley, and uses this to diminish those of lower class. Chapone asks us to "Observe her manner to servants and inferiors" and whether she treats "them always with affability", but we know, Emma does not. Emma thinks Mr Martin is a "very inferior creature" and when Harriet asks for advice Emma says "the letter had much better be all your own" but sneaks in "You need not to be prompted to write the appearance of sorrow for his disappointment". Harriet refuses Martin, and Emma proclaims that Harriet, if she accepted, would have been "confined to the society of the illiterate and vulgar" and "could not have visited Mrs. Robert Martin" since she deems the lower class as unsophisticated primitives. Emma would have lost her latest amusement and her chance to prove her intelligence. Emma's subtle manipulations illustrates the absence of inner morality, and is thus, an ill–qualified mentor. • 11. Analysis Of ' The Coco Mademoiselle ' Unspoken Words Through an Ad: Chanel, "Coco Mademoiselle" and Tommy Hilfiger, "TH Bold" Wherever one looks barraged by an advertisement or marketing ads. Whether you are appreciating a day of shopping or heading to work, promotions encompass you. It appears we never get a break from this production. In addition, we see them so much we have developed resistance to their nearness. There are numerous approaches to publicize an item, and ordinarily the similarities are self–evident. Analyzing commercials intently uncovers that paying little respect to the likenesses and contrasts in notices, the primary motivation behind a promotion is to engage a specific group of onlookers. Although both ads are selling fragrances, one is promoting a product for men and other is a promotion for women. Chane is "Coco Mademoiselle" promotes sexyness and being sexually glamorous, while Tommy's Hilfiger's Bold is advertising manliness and athleticism. The intention of each Ad is seen through its color, model's persona, and through facial expressions. In the Coco Mademoiselle ad, the colors are explicitly more feminine, as well as elegant simultaneously; introducing colors of light pearl white on her elegant beady dress, whereas the wallpaper is a taupe color. The color white is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity and it is seen as the color of perfectionism. Pirates Of The Caribbean Analysis Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, directed by Gore Verbinski, is one of the most influential pieces of cinema in the disney movie franchise. The movie was well received by the majority of people that viewed it. However, not everyone was as impressed with the movie, like film critic Roger Ebert for example. While Ebert, at the time working as a film critic for Chicago Sun–Times, gave the movie three stars, there are some critiques that are incredibly incorrect. The article focuses a lot on the stellar performances of Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa respectively, while making light of the respectable performance of Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann. He also spends a good segment of his review bashing the action scenes and deeming them pointless based on the plot of the movie. Overall, Roger Ebert believes the movie was decent, but went on for far too long, calling it, "a nice little 90–minute B movie trapped inside the 143 minutes of "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" (rogerebert.com). There is an argument to be made about Roger Ebert's rollercoaster ride of a review on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, especially concerning his opinions on the performances of some of the actors and the fighting. While the performances of Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp were indeed marvelous, Roger Ebert's opinion on the performance of Keira Knightley could not be more wrong. Ebert describes her ... • 13. Jane Austen 's Pride And Prejudice According to the Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is described as "the advocacy of equality of the sexes and the establishment of the political, social and economic rights of the female sex." It emphasizes the many ways women have been suppressed, repressed, and oppressed. Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, is about Elizabeth, a young middle–class woman who falls in love with Mr. Darcy, a rich, prideful man whom she has sworn to loath based on a misguided first impression. Furthermore, it's about the unfairness of society and income. Based on the plot of the story and the definition of feminism, Pride and Prejudice has aspects of feminism but is not considered a feminist film. Most of the scenes in Pride and Prejudice are about men. But there are a couple of scenes between two or more women that allow the film to barely pass the Bechdel test. For example, the conversation between Elizabeth and Miss Bingley at Netherfield. In this scene, these two women discuss the requirements for a lady to be truly accomplished. According to Miss Bingley, "She must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the modern languages to deserve the word. And something in her air and manner of walking" (Pride and Prejudice 2005). Pride and Prejudice also passes the Mako Mori test. According to The Atlantic, "the film has to have at least one female character with her own narrative arc that is not about supporting a man's story" (Derr). The protagonist, Elizabeth ... • 14. Jane Austen's "Emma" Emma Woodhouse: Awake or Dreaming? A dream. A world where ideas run wild and imagination is the primary mode of thought. Reality is a faraway distance. Eventually, the dream comes to an end as reality creeps into sleep and the fantasy finishes. The story of Jane Austen's Emma is one of a similar account. Emma Woodhouse, the main character, has an active imagination that causes her to loose sight of reality like getting lost in dreaming. Her imagination and "disposition to think a little too well of herself" causes Emma to be emotionally arrogant and skews her perception of other characters (Austen, 1). Throughout the novel, Emma struggles to develop emotionally because her dream–derived visions of those around her and her obsession with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it is ultimately Harriet's choice to decline Mr. Martin, Emma uses her popularity to influence the decision. "[T]hough Emma continued to protest against any assistance being wanted [from Harriet], it was in fact given in the formation of every sentence" (34). Caught up in her self–appointed role as cupid, Emma ignores the possibility that Harriet and Mr. Martin could ever live happily together. Upon hearing of Harriet's rejection to Mr. Martin, Knightley suspects Emma's attempt to produce a match between Harriet and Mr. Elton. He warns Emma about the unlikelihood of Mr. Elton reducing himself to Harriet's inferior position through marriage. While his warning causes Emma to momentarily doubt herself, she quickly erases these thoughts with "a satisfaction which settled her with her own mind, and convinced her... she had done nothing which woman's friendship and woman's feelings would not justify" (43). Evidently, Emma is easily able to dismiss Mr. Knightley's rational suggestions, satisfied with her own more amusing ideas. She remains confident in her own imaginative schemes, letting that govern her conduct. As the novel progresses and Mr. Elton reveals Emma as the true object of his affection, Emma's prediction and meddling proves to be a failure. In reflecting on her behavior, Emma notes, ... • 15. Margaret : A Game Of Mother May I? Education in Emma: A Game of "Mother May I?" It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen is the queen of depicting strong, independent heroines and dashing, empathetic heroes, as well as their witty interactions with one another. However, at their core, Austen's novels are also about complex mother–daughter relationships. During the 1800s, the education that girls received was mainly geared towards running a household and finding wealthy husbands. As a result, mothers and governesses, who often held mother–like roles, were imperative to girls' education, both formal and informal (Swords 80). In Pride and Prejudice, Mrs. Bennet takes every measure, for better or for worse, to ensure that her daughters find good marriages in an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, as Emma matures, the audience gains an insight into the views of the time period toward women involved in education. The crux of Emma focuses on Emma's relationship with Mrs. Weston, who, upon thenovel's opening, the narrator clearly indicates that Emma views as a mother: "Her mother had died too long ago for her to have more than an indistinct remembrance of her caresses; and her place had been supplied by an excellent woman as governess, who had fallen little short of a mother in affection" (Austen 1). In terms of life lessons, Mrs. Weston is the person who influences Emma the most as she grows up. It is she who instills in her good manners and morals. She teaches her to be charitable to people, no matter their social status. The narrator notes that Miss Taylor fails to properly administrate Emma by letting "Emma [do] just what she likes" (1), which results in Emma's major faults as a character, such as "having rather too much her own way, and a disposition to think a little too well of herself" (1). Its widely lauded soundtrack, composed by Dario Marianelli, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category for Original Score, among other awards. If Marianelli and directorJoe Wright's objective was to evoke music of the time period, they seem to have done just that. The Classical style matches the feel of Jane Austen novels and the era in which Pride & Prejudice was written. The romantic relationship between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is also enhanced by the music. This paper demonstrates that the soundtrack parallels the development of Lizzie and her feelings for Mr. Darcy. Lizzie's theme is a recurring element that plots their relationship from introduction to inevitably happy end. Further, the theme of "Darcy's Letter", present in a number of scenes, helps to depict when Lizzie begins to feel differently about Mr. Darcy. The diegetic playing of Lizzie's theme also offers an interesting look into the social classes of the time and how they affected relationships. • 22. Theme Of Marriage In Pride And Prejudice Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, despite being written epochs ago, still resonates within the hearts of contemporary readers today. Pride and Prejudice has been adapted into films due to its immense popularity. Joe Wright's 2005 rendition starring Keira Knightly and Gurrinder Chadha's Bollywood interpretation explore the universally acknowledged writing of Jane Austen, both having different approaches to depicting the setting, characterisation, thematic concerns and storytelling, yet both are successful at maintaining Pride and Prejudice's aura of marriage, social class, and vanity. In Austen's Pride and Prejudice, inadequate time is spent on the description of the setting and in the beginning we are simultaneously bombarded with the gossip of 'a young man of large fortune' occupying the prestigious and lavish Netherfield Park. The austere social structure stands out in the opening, and we grasp its outlook on the importance of marriage. Wright's adaptation has a rather tranquil setting in its opening scene. A panning longshot of a serene English countryside immersed in soft light, brings sense of warmth and wistfulness. While the havoc of the Bennet's estate is suspended, not being the opening scene as in the classic novel, we still see the much anticipated shambolic yet hearty appearance of the family home. In Pride and Prejudice, the couple has to hurdle both Darcy's pride and Elizabeth's derisive prejudice towards him so that they fulfil their love. George Knightley is more of a moral compass for Emma, and he usually displays his approval and disapproval of her actions. Before the relationship is examined; it would be insightful to reflect on the social context that the text is set in like the system of patriarchy, and the expectation of women from certain wealthy families. The Elizabethan era was marked by the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558–1603). This era in English history has often been regarded as a golden age of the time. This was due to ideas of national pride, many reforms in areas of society, and the use of theatre alongside William Shakespeare (1564–1616). In the last few hours he had felt more like his old self than ever since he came to this century. This century... it still stunned him that so much time had passed in a matter of what felt like days to him. • 32. Comparison Between Juxtapose France And United Kingdom's... Due to the amount of advertisements a person sees every day, almost everywhere, the United States law does not regulate it. France and the United Kingdom have increased "regulation of advertising practices" (O'Neil, 3). This includes "digital manipulation of photographs in advertisements that can mislead consumers about product performance. Self–regulatory bodies in both countries have pushed to ban cosmetic advertisements for misleading consumers in this way" (O'Neil, 3). However due to the first amendment, – the right to freedom of speech – the U.S. lacks stronger regulations juxtapose France and the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom's regulation for advertisement does not allow for foreign advertisers to advertise in their country unless obeying their rules – not laws. Quoted by O'Neil, the United Kingdom formed a system, called Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which is: "...a system of self–regulation of the advertising industry that is run by a nongovernmental regulatory body...[that is] based on the CAP Code (Code), a set of rules developed by the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP). CAP has promulgated two different codes, one for broadcast advertising and another for nonbroadcast advertising, sales promotion, and direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O'Neil further clarifies how the advertising system works in the United Kingdom with, "The government and the courts recognize this self–regulatory system as an "established means" to protect consumers from false and misleading advertising. This system acts as the frontline for advertising regulation and often is the most efficient way to resolve issues about advertising content" (4). This self–run system is powerful and effective for the bettering of the people. The United States constitutions begins with the words, "We the people..." therefore it should improve advertising regulations because it is for the people's benefit of not misleading ... • 33. Negative Impact On Social Media The use of technology and social media has become very prevalent in the 21st century. Almost everyone in the United States owns some kind of social media account. According to Statista.com, "In 2017, 81 percent of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a five percent growth compared to the previous year." While the number of users increases every year, it seems as though the number of people who prefer to live in the "virtual world" also increases. I believe that social media sites create isolation for all individuals. There are so many distractions on these sites that most people cannot even focus on the present. These sites also provide an illusion of companionship. While many believe they are finding their "soulmates" online, in reality they are only living in a fantasy. A person's self–image is also affected by social media. Some believe that all the "likes" and "comments" can boost self–confidence, but if you are not receiving any of these things, then what is the point. Social media has drastically changed our ability to stay focused on what is going on in our immediate vicinity. Students are religiously connecting themselves to these sites and are continuously signing online to check their status, some could even say that they are addicted. Even while in class, students are on their laptops or smartphones and spend the majority of their time checking their 'home page' and partially (if at all) listening to the lecture of their teachers. The partial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a majority of the industrialized world engaging in intimate partner violence is not acceptable yet it is still widely occurring. Though this is an issue that has been around for a long while there is still much to be done to help the individuals that still fall victim to this type of violence. As Keira Knightly says in her PSA she did not agree to this. It is important that we do not blame the victims of IPV and instead seek to help them and listen when it is hard for them to speak as can be learned from the 911 Call PSA. That's what I said when I was excited for this party. But how do you think I feel now? Dead. I am dead. It also wasn 't no accident. I do remember my killer, but I do know that she was at the party that night. Maybe you can guess and figure out why. The day started out like normal. Waking up in my bedroom to my brothers nocking on the door. My mom yelling at them, saying stop being so dang loud. That's when I got out of bed to read my text messages and yelled, bye mom, I have to go to school and I'll be back for a little while, but I won 't be back tonight because I have a party. It was a guy or boy I couldn't tell because I couldn't quite figure out the features of his face. "Are you Kiera?" He asked with such a deep voice it made my heart skip a beat. "Yes, why do you ask?" "I need to know if you want to come to the dance with me." His voice seemed softer and more comfortable. "Why would I? I don't even know who you are." "I'll be expecting an answer tonight. Heres my number text me." That was scary, but it was a scary that I kind of liked. But why? Was he cute? I don't know. I couldn't see his face, but I did need a date to the dance. Maybe I could ask for a picture of him. I'll have to ask Jacey when I see her at lunch. "Hey girl. You look upset about something. Are you ok?" • 36. The Imitation Game : The Imitation Game By Alan Turing Determination, vulnerability, and secrets are seen all throughout the 2014 movie "The Imitation Game." The film which was directed by Morten Tyldum and a screenplay by Graham Moore, depicts the life of the unusual man Alan Turing and his involvement with Allied victory during World War II. The biopic ranging at two hours follows Turing and the sacrifices he willing to make to break Germany's unbreakable Enigma code during World War II. Turing along with a group of unknown British scholars work desperately day and night under pressure to achieve this victory which ultimately ends in a tragedy. Alan Turing was a brilliant mathematician, but he lived with the insecurity of hiding his homosexuality. In the Oscar nominated film taking place in London World War II era, Alan Turing races against the clock to invent a revolutionary machine that would shorten the war by nearly two years and save the lives of thousands. The historical thriller is dramatic, suspenseful, exciting, and a bit bizarre at times as it depicts the "expect the unexpected" mindset Alan Turing had. The movie was inspired by the book Alan Turing: The Enigma of Intelligence written by Andrew Hodges. I have not read the book but from reviews written by other critics the movie does not bring justice of turning the book into a movie and is a poor representation of Alan Turing. I found the movie to be entertaining yet confusing. When books are turned into a movie it should give viewers a sense of the person's life with meaning. I found myself drawn into Alan Turing's life but at times I just couldn't make sense of it. From beginning to end, The Imitation Game keeps viewers engaged wondering what will happen next. If you want to see a well–acted British movie about a historical genius go see Morten Tyldum's The Imitation game, but if you want the real insight on Alan Turing you might be better off reading the book. The acting is brilliant, I enjoyed watching the film. The cast is led by Benedict Cumberbatch who does an excellent job embracing Alan Turing. The irony of his character in this film is that he plays a man who is a war hero genius, and pioneered as the father of computer science, yet he lives with vulnerabilities and is tortured ... • 37. Why Did Shakespeare Chose To Modernize Hamlet Looking at the chose that were given the play that I would chose to modernize would have to be William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The main focus or image would be on the fact that he lost his father in the most ruthless way and his mother was married away. If it was up to me I would place this story in the heart of Detroit. With all this kind of drama that happens in Detroit, Michigan in the heart of the Motor City this would be right in the spot. The set would be simple it would be in the gallows of Detroit between 6 mile and 7 mile near Woodward Avenue. The new and modernized play would be throughout the city of detroit. The plot would be based around a family in the Motor City that had a mother and a father that split and went their separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Pride And Prejudice By Joe Wright The stories about the football player falling in love with the shy girl, the prince falling in love with a servant girl, or where the rich guy falls in love with a poor girl is most often seen in movies and books. These stories all present issue about how divided social classes are. Focus Pictures' version of the famous Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice directed by Joe Wright and won numerous awards for best actress, production design, best motion picture, and many more. The trailer for Pride and Prejudice made it seem as though this was just going to be a love story between a rich man named Darcy, played by Matthew MacFadyen and a poor girl named Elizabeth Bennet, played by Keira Knightley, but overall it wasn't just that. Under that story lies an overwhelming amount of social conflict, ideas spreading from the feminist theory, to marriage, to most importantly social class. The story looks into the Bennet family and their situation. They are about to lose all their land, and society in their time is patriarchal based in that only eldest son receives entailment to their real–estate. However, the real problem comes from the fact that Mr. Bennett has five daughters! Mr. and Mrs. Bennett marry their daughters off to men with power and money so they can ensure that they are financially secured. In this era women had no choice but to marry young, dues to the face they didn't have as many job opportunities. On top of that if they hadn't been married they would have been mocked. ...
