Dear Prospective Student,
Do you want to be a medical doctor? A surgeon? A physician assistant? A dentist? A phar-
macist? A scientist? Or do you want to advance your career in nursing? The Bachelor of
Science in Biomedical Sciences is right for you!
Our Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences provides an integrated learning, research
opportunities, community health engagement, and leadership training that prepares grad-
uates for professional or advanced degrees in health care or biomedicine. 
The lower division core curriculum provides a strong foundation in basic sciences, in ad-
dition to the unique CDU core themes to prepare our graduates to disseminate the CDU
mission. The CDU advantage includes core courses on cultural diversity education, global
comparative health disparities, underserved community engagement, and sociopolitical dynamic of health embedded in the
Biomedical Sciences curriculum.
The upper division curriculum is tailored to individual career goals, such as pre-medicine, pre-nursing, pre-physician assistant,
pre-pharmacy, pre-physical therapy and pre-dentistry. In addition, we offer pre-professional admission exam preparation under
our Integrative Biomedical Sciences Courses. Our doctoral prepared faculty is committed to student success.
Tutoring and skills development classes are offered to ensure that your time at CDU will be productive and successful.
We offer unique research opportunities for undergraduate students, and we look forward to sharing the excitement of our re-
search interests with you. Working directly with a research mentor, students are afforded opportunities to work on projects that
are at the forefront of scientific advances in areas such as cancer, obesity, cardio-metabolic disorders, HIV and neurobiology,
amongst others. Community engagement research is also a key component of the undergraduate program.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical Sciences prepares students
for entry into graduate and professional programs in medicine, osteopathic,
podiatry, optometry, physical therapy, physician assistant, pharmacy or den-
tistry. In addition, the BS program prepares students for masters and doctor-
al programs, scientific research, and employment in biomedical laboratories
and/or biotech companies. The program offers a multidisciplinary study of
health and diseases, and particularly the biological and molecular sciences
that constitute the foundation of modern medicine.

Admissions
The Department of Health and Life Sciences conducts a comprehensive review of all applications
for undergraduate admission, involving an academic review and evaluation of personal achieve-
ments. The Department of Health and Life Sciences accepts applications for the Biomedical
Sciences undergraduate program from freshman and transfer students.
Program Admissions Requirements
•	 Completion of the Application for Undergraduate Studies.
•	 High School diploma
•	 Official transcript from all post secondary school attended
•	 Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
•	 National test scores (either SAT or ACT) are required
•	 For freshman students: A year of high school laboratory sciences in biology, or chemistry, or physics.
•	 For transfer students: Completion of Introductory Chemistry and Introductory Biology or equivalent
After matriculation, the Department will conduct Math and English placement exams to all incoming students.
Application filing periods
The Biomedical Sciences undergraduate program starts every year in the Fall and Spring semesters. The date be-
low is a recommended deadline; however, the program offers rolling admissions and applications are considered
until the enrollment capacity has been reached.

Fees, Tuition, and Estimated Student Budget 
We are committed to helping students finance their education; the Office of Financial Aid and
Scholarships works closely with all students who need financial assistance. A financial aid award
generally consists of a combination of scholarships and grant money from CDU and other
sources, low-interest loans, and a work-study job during the academic year.
We recommend that you take the initiative to research the wide range of scholarship opportuni-
ties sponsored by outside organizations. Every year thousands of dollars go un-awarded because
students are not aware of these resources.

Requirements for the Major (120 units)
The lower division core curriculum provides a strong foundation in basic

will have to take summer semester courses in order to complete the required
units.
Successful completion of the major requires a minimum C (2.0) overall grade
point average in all courses required for the major. At least 15 units of upper
division coursework that fulfills major requirements must be taken in resi-
dence (not to include courses graded CR/NC).

Pre-Medicine Track
Physicians are dedicated to serving the health care needs of soci-
ety through diagnosing and treating illness, injury, and disease.
Due to the competitive nature of the medical school application
process and rigorous training required, students should careful-
ly consider their motivation, preparation, and commitment for a
career in medicine.
The BMS-Pre Med track offers all courses required in order to
apply to medical school. In addition, the program offers a series of
extracurricular activities, such as Research, Community services,
Clinical exposure, embedded in our curriculum.

Pre-Physician Assistant Track
Physician Assistants (PA) provides a wide range of health care
services and work as a team under the supervision of physicians
and surgeons. The majority PAs work in primary care areas such
as general internal medicine, pediatrics, and family medicine.
Prerequisite admission requirements vary from school to school.
However, BMS-pre PA track includes all the requirements for ap-
plying to PA programs in the country

Pre-Dental Track
Dentistry is devoted to maintaining the health of the teeth, gums,
and other hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity and adjacent
structures. Dentistry requires diagnostic ability and manual skills.
Dentists should have good visual memory, excellent judgment of
space and shape, a high degree of manual dexterity, and scientific
ability. Good business sense, self-discipline, and communication
skills are helpful for success in private practice.
The BMS-dental track includes all the requirements for applying
to Dental School, in addition of unique electives courses

Pre-Pharmacy Track
Pharmacists today do much more than simply compound and
dispense medication. Their roles have broadened to include direct
patient care, education, and case management duties. Pharmacists
can be found in a variety of settings including community and
consultant pharmacies, hospitals and institutions, managed care
organizations, the pharmaceutical industry, academics and re-
search, government agencies and many more.
The BMS-pre-pharmacy track offers all the pre-requisite courses
needed for applying to pharmacy school. Our Program offers elec-
tives that would enhance your application to pharmacy school.

Pre-Nursing Track
Nurses provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and
the public about various health conditions, and provide advice
and emotional support to patients and their family members. Reg-
istered nurses work in hospitals, physicians’ offices, home health-
care services, and nursing care facilities. Others work in correc-
tional facilities or schools, or serve in the military.
The BMS-pre-nursing track offers all the pre-requisite courses
needed for applying to Entry Level Master in Nursing programs.

Pre-Physical Therapy Track
Physical Therapist are health care professionals who diagnose and
treat individuals who have medical problems that limit their abil-
ities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.
Physical therapists provide care for people in a variety of settings,
including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home
health agencies, schools, sports and fitness facilities, work settings,
and nursing homes.
The BMS-pre-PT track covers all the required coursework for the
majority of PT schools in the US. GRE examination is required
and must be taken 6 weeks prior the deadline of the application
process.
