2. What is a CDN?
A content delivery network (CDN) is a system of distributed servers
(network) that deliver webpages and other Web content to a user based
on the geographic locations of the user, the origin of the webpage and a
content delivery server.

“Site speed” and “page speed” are not the same thing!
Site speed: The speed at which all content and pages operate as a whole.
There are many factors that are included and “page speed” is included.
Page speed: Page speed is often confused with "site speed," which is actually
the page speed for a sample of page views on a site. Page speed can be
described in either "page load time" (the time it takes to fully display the
content on a specific page) or "time to first byte" (how long it takes for your
browser to receive the first byte of information from the web server).
CDN can help improve both site speed and page speed.

dashboards at no additional cost. There is a Pro version with some additional
features.

content is organized into distributions.
MaxCDN is a content delivery network provider, based in Los
Angeles, California. The company emphasizes reducing latency
of rich-content delivery. They offer a test account.

The subject of CDN’s can get complex. Also there are CDN’s specifically
for mobile content called (Mobile CDN). For most smaller site’s I would
say just a simple CDN solution would help with speed and possibly
improve search engine rankings.
