7. CORPORATEVolkswagen Glaserne Manufactur dresden, GermanyThe $190 million Glaserne Manufactur, or ‘Glass Factory,’ in Dresden, Germany, is a visual celebration of modern manufacturing. In the words of the architect, Gunter Henn, this is a “master craftsman’s atelier” with parquet floors, transparent glass walls, water features and an 80-foot wide sphere featuring a multimedia show by BRC Imagination Arts. In the atrium, City Design Group designed a system of theatrical trusses and lighting to support a variety of uses. CD+M Lighting Design Group designed lighting for all of the interior public spaces and exterior site, including the exhibition hall, main and prefunction lobbies, ballroom, meeting rooms and boardrooms. Warm wood finishes throughout the stunning five-story atrium are enhanced with ambient light in the evening, transforming this public space into an inviting common area for the staff to discuss ideas, collaborate and think creatively.
