2. Introduction
• For decades USAID has been a leader in supporting the health of millions
around the world.
• The Global Health Bureau under the USAID umbrella prioritizes: Preventing
child and maternal deaths; controlling the HIV/AIDS epidemic and combating
infectious disease
• One of the hallmarks of effective health care delivery is a systemic approach
to identifying, assessing and addressing the needs of high-risk, vulnerable
populations.
• While Primary Prevention is the first line of defense, of course, around the
world many are already dealing with the great challenges of disease,
malnutrition, infant mortality and the healthy timing and spacing of
pregnancy which can impact a family’s ability to address basic needs
