3. Examples of Successful Partnerships
– The Nigerian Inter-Faith Action Association (NIFAA), “a Christian-Muslim faith-based
partnership, unique in its national reach and implementation, trains and empowers
Nigerian faith leaders to be at the forefront in the fight against poverty and disease and
advocacy regarding poverty reduction and disease control and eradication”, with focus
action issues being malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and polio.
– A key partner of NIFAA implemented the Faiths United for Health campaign (2009-10) to
train 300,000 religious leaders to promote the use of antimalarial bed nets. An independent
evaluation of this campaign showed that reported net usage was up from 25-50%.
– Sierra Leone: World Hope International: “Preventing Ebola Through Faith and Cultural
Leadership Project” worked with local faith and community leaders to support the Ebola
prevention campaign and support safe burial practices to prevent the further spread of
Ebola. They trained teams on how to perform safe and dignified to ensure that religious
and cultural traditions were respected
