DearRecruiter,
The Certificate Course in Business Management for Defence Officers (CCBMDO) at IIM Indore is a rigorous, six months,
residential programme which re-orients and prepares Armed Forces Officers to efficiently undertake all management
tasks in an increasingly complex and demanding corporate environment. The programme equips the officers with all
theessentialskillsrequiredtoexcelinthecorporateworld.Theofficershavestrongworkethics,problemsolvingskills,
adaptability,focus,perseverance,disciplineandquality.
The value system which armed forces inculcate in the officers is unparalleled. All the participants are exemplary in
qualities like leadership, dedication to duty, hard work, sincerity and loyalty. This course in management has provided
them an opportunity to get a view of the contemporary business environment and have made them capable of
delivering the best. The Armed Forces experience with focus on quality and timely delivery of tasks – varying roles,
necessitating hands-on tactical and strategic decision making/implementation in complex situations, has been
adequately bolstered by this course and synergized their tacit knowledge with the formal, codified one imparted in the
course.
The course exposes them to all the basic functional skills of management through core courses and also provides
sectoral/ domain exposure through a list of select electives. The core courses covered major functional areas of
management and built a strong foundation for learning.Analysis and discussion of cases provided the participants an
opportunity to be as close to real life as possible. The elective courses prepared the students to comprehend and
evaluate new areas of learning. Group assignments, quizzes and class activities managed to create the environment
forworkingthroughteamsandcommunicatingeffectively.
Industry feedback on previous CCBMDO batches has been very encouraging. We are certain that the corporate
sector would once again be eager to welcome this batch of“Go-Getters” into their fold and to gain immensely by
employing them. The knowledge that these officers have acquired through the programme along with their innate
dedication would prove invaluable to any organization. The enthusiasm to imbibe and the inherent willingness to go
beyond the ordinary has been the essence of these officers. Their conduct has been commendable and I am confident
thatthisbatchof“CorporateWarriors”would,liketheirpredecessors,provetobeassetstothebusinessworld.

It gives me immense pleasure to talk about the 12 batch of CCBMDO participants. It is always a pleasure
This is the second batch of CCBMDO in which I am teaching Accounting and I would say that experience is
really worth mentioning. I find them really energetic and keen to learn. Considering that most of them had a
long break from academics, I was concerned about bringing their interest in the subject. They made my task
easier by getting involved in the discussion deeply. They were actively involved in the discussion and
contributedalottothelearningprocess.

WHAT MENTORS SAY

The Armed Forces Officers are no strangers to Operations as a concept, having dealt with it in their Uniformed tenures.
Many have leadership experience in shop floors in repair yards, maintenance workshops as well as similar Operational
situations. My challenge was, therefore, restricted to adapt this tacit knowhow into a formal framework and leverage their
knowledge of Operations/ Production in terms of applicability to the corporate world. Their biggest strengths are their
logical ability and expeditious decision making skills. Their probing questions during the classroom sessions as well as
approachtothecasestudiesdisplayedtheirenthusiasmandzealtomaximizetheirlearning.Iwishthemallthebest.
Dr. Rohit Kapoor FPM(IIM Ahmedabad), ME, B Tech, (Operations Management)
The internationally acclaimed pedagogy is delivered through an intense six months, full-time residential programme in
Business Management with about 430 contact hours. A balanced mix of faculty comprising academicians, researchers and
professionals drawn from the public/private sector represent the right formula to train for the best minds in the country. By
following the case study method of interactive pedagogy, the learning is made virtually experiential and engaging. In areas
where new skills are imparted to participants, classroom discussions are aided by simulation techniques and real life
scenarios. The programme is unique in terms of building upon the existing diverse experiences of the participants while
providing strategic learning inputs in areas where individual experience is limited. Aided by latest techniques in study, the
programme seeks to tune and contemporize the managerial competencies of the Armed Forces Officers so as to leverage
theirexperienceandskillstomeettherequirementsofthecorporateworld.

The programme equips the officers with all theessentialskillsrequiredtoexcelinthecorporateworld.Theofficershavestrongworkethics, problemsolvingskills, adaptability, focus, perseverance, disciplineandquality. The value system which armed forces inculcate in the officers is unparalleled. All the participants are exemplary in qualities like leadership, dedication to duty, hard work, sincerity and loyalty. The Armed Forces experience with focus on quality and timely delivery of tasks – varying roles, necessitating hands-on tactical and strategic decision making/implementation in complex situations, has been adequately bolstered by this course and synergized their tacit knowledge with the formal, codified one imparted in the course. The course exposes them to all the basic functional skills of management through core courses and also provides sectoral/ domain exposure through a list of select electives. The core courses covered major functional areas of management and built a strong foundation for learning.Analysis and discussion of cases provided the participants an opportunity to be as close to real life as possible. The elective courses prepared the students to comprehend and evaluate new areas of learning. Group assignments, quizzes and class activities managed to create the environment forworkingthroughteamsandcommunicatingeffectively. Dr. Amitabh Deo Kodwani , Post Doctorate (University of Warsaw, Poland) (HRM) th It gives me immense pleasure to talk about the 12 batch of CCBMDO participants. It is always a pleasure This is the second batch of CCBMDO in which I am teaching Accounting and I would say that experience is really worth mentioning. I find them really energetic and keen to learn. Considering that most of them had a long break from academics, I was concerned about bringing their interest in the subject. They made my task easier by getting involved in the discussion deeply. They were actively involved in the discussion and contributedalottothelearningprocess. Dr. Mehul Raithatha Ph D (IIT Bombay), CFA (ICFAI), M Com (Accounting and Financial Management) The participants of the Certificate Course in Business Management for Defence Officers have demonstrated an impressive commitment to gain adequate knowledge, skills and techniques across different areas of management and specifically from the Organizational Behaviour module. Many have leadership experience in shop floors in repair yards, maintenance workshops as well as similar Operational situations. My challenge was, therefore, restricted to adapt this tacit knowhow into a formal framework and leverage their knowledge of Operations/ Production in terms of applicability to the corporate world.
