This document summarizes technologies that can derive renewable energy from sustainable sources of carbon, including various forms of waste. It describes a process that converts organic waste into porous, reactive carbon and recyclable materials using CO2 and/or CO. This process is more efficient and less capital intensive than traditional mass burn energy production. The carbon produced can be used as fuel in coal power plants or converted into hydrocarbon gases and liquids. It also outlines technologies for producing "clean coal" from high-sulfur coal to generate carbon, sulfur and electricity in an environmentally safe way.
