The document discusses using a number line to subtract whole numbers. It explains that a number line can be used to subtract either by counting back, which involves subtracting the numbers in stages moving from the larger to the smaller number, or by counting on, which involves adding the numbers in stages moving from the smaller to the larger number. It provides examples of using counting back and counting on to solve 16 - 7. It also discusses subtracting larger numbers by either working with the tens place value first then the ones, or vice versa.

Aling Nena sold 25 cavans of rice at ₱1,750 per cavan. Her income was calculated by multiplying the number of cavans sold by the price per cavan, resulting in ₱43,750. During a medical mission, 55 children were treated, and if thrice as many adults were treated, 165 adults were treated. The public health office distributed 342 cold tablets, and if vitamin tablets distributed were 6 times the cold tablets, 2,052 vitamin tablets were distributed.
This document outlines a course on teaching early-years reading using Jolly Phonics. The course consists of 9 sessions that will teach participants the 7 sets of Jolly Phonics sounds through activities, songs and stories. Participants will learn how to use phonics to teach blending, segmenting, tricky words and build language skills. The goal is for participants to understand the Jolly Phonics program and learn effective methods and resources for teaching reading to young children.
This document provides instructions for adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. It explains that when adding or subtracting fractions with like denominators, you add or subtract the numerators and keep the same denominator. For unlike denominators, you find a common denominator and then add or subtract the numerators. When adding or subtracting mixed numbers with like denominators, you add or subtract the whole numbers and fractions separately, keeping the denominator the same. For mixed numbers with unlike denominators, you add or subtract the whole numbers and fractions separately. Examples are provided to illustrate each of these steps.
This document discusses ordinal numbers from 1st to 10th and provides examples of their use. Ordinal numbers indicate position or ranking, such as first, second, and third. The examples show ordinal numbers being used to describe the position of various objects and animals in a line or order, such as "the first bee is carrying honey" or "the fifth penguin is upside down."
Lesson plan for x and dividing by 10, 100, 1000Angela Phillips
1) The lesson objective was to teach students to multiply whole numbers by 10, 100, and 1000 at levels 3 and 4. A card sorting activity was used as an entry task to review basic math skills.
2) Students used whiteboards to practice multiplying numbers by 10, 100, and 1000 with teacher demonstration. They showed their understanding using RAG cards.
3) An activity with correct and incorrect examples was completed, followed by demonstration on the interactive board. Students came up to show their work.
4) Students demonstrated understanding of multiples using whiteboards and did a poster activity in pairs to identify multiples of 10, 100, and 1000.

This document explains how to write numbers in expanded form by identifying the value of each digit from left to right. It discusses that numbers can be written in standard form, expanded form, and word form. The core lesson shows how to write numbers like 735, 509, and 192 in expanded form by identifying the hundreds, tens, and ones places.
This document provides instruction for learning multiplication facts. It begins by outlining the lesson objectives and prerequisites. The lesson then reviews rules for multiplying by 0's, 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's. Students practice these multiplication facts through interactive examples. The document continues by teaching rules for multiplying by 3's, 4's, 6's, 7's, 8's and 9's. Students practice these new multiplication facts through additional interactive examples. The document concludes by providing students links to worksheets and games for further practicing their multiplication fact fluency.
Multiplication and division are introduced. Key terms are defined:
- In multiplication, the multiplicand and multiplier produce a product.
- In division, the dividend is divided by the divisor to find the quotient. Any amount left over is the remainder.
Examples are provided of multiplying 1, 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. Long division is demonstrated to find quotients and remainders. Practice questions reinforce understanding of these key mathematical concepts and terms.
This document discusses different methods for comparing fractions, including:
1) Comparing fractions with the same denominator by looking at the numerators
2) Making the denominators the same by finding the least common multiple before comparing
3) Comparing fractions by multiplying the numerators and denominators
4) Converting fractions to decimals and comparing the decimal forms
The key steps are to simplify the fractions to have a common denominator or convert to decimals before determining which fraction is greater.

The document discusses number sentences, which are mathematical expressions made up of numbers and operators like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. It provides examples of equal number sentences that have the same value, like 3 + 7 = 10 and 6 + 4 = 10. The document encourages finding other number sentences that equal 10 and exploring patterns in number sentences like a descending pattern from 20 - 7 to 11 - 7. It asks the reader to find all addition sentences with a sum of 8.
The document discusses fractions and how to find fractional parts of a whole collection. It explains that to find one half of a collection, you divide the total number by 2. To find one third, you divide the total by 3. And to find one fourth, you divide the total by 4. It provides examples with a collection of 12 stars divided into various equal parts. It also includes exercises where the reader is asked to identify the number of objects in one half, one third or one fourth of a collection.
Multiplying a 2 Digit Number by a 1 Digit NumberChris James
The document provides step-by-step instructions for multiplying 97 by 4. It explains setting up the multiplication problem by writing 97 above 4 with columns for hundreds, tens, and units. It then works through multiplying 4 by each digit of 97, carrying numbers to the next column, and writes the final answer of 388. It directs the reader to a website and book for additional math help and games.
Adding And Subtracting Fractions With Different Denominatorsm.pretoris
This document discusses how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators. It explains that to add or subtract fractions, you first need to find the common denominator by listing all factors of each denominator. Then the fractions are converted to equivalent fractions with the common denominator before adding or subtracting the numerators. Finally, any improper fractions are converted to mixed numbers.
