ABSCISSA
refers to the distance of a point the vertical
axis. It is the first coordinate of an ordered
pair of numbers representing a point on a
coordinate plane and is also called the
coordinate.
Y-INTERCEPT
is the ordinate of the coordinates of the point
at which the graph intersects the y-axis. It is
also the value of y when x = 0. the y-intercept
is the ordinate of the coordinates of the point
in which the graph intersects the y-axis.
ORDINATE
refers to the distance of a point from the
horizontal axis. It is the second coordinate in
an ordered pair of numbers representing a
point on a coordinate plane and also called
the y-coordinate.
CARTESIAN COORDINATE PLANE
known as the rectangular coordinate of two
perpendicular number line (vertical and
horizontal) that meet at the point of origin
whose coordinate are (0,0)
POINT
an exact location denoted by an ordered pair
composed of x-coordinate and y coordinate in
the form (x,y).
GRAPH OF A LINEAR EQUATION
is a straight line that composes the set of all
solution of a linear equation.
HORIZONTAL LINE
a line parallel to the x-axis
ORDERED PAIRS
a pair of numbers in the form (x,y) which
serve as the coordinates of the point.
ORIGIN
the point at which the x-and y-axes intersect.
This corresponds to the order pair (0,0).
VERTICAL LINE
a line parallel to the y-axis.
X-AXIS
the horizontal axis of the cartesian plane.
Y-AXIS
the vertical axis of the cartesian plane.
SLOPE
is commonly represented by the lower-case
letter "m," and is often referred to as rise over
run.
RISE
refers to the vertical change/move or change
in y-coordinate.
RUN
is the horizontal change/move or change in x-
coordinate.
LINE
composed of infinite number of points and
can be determined using two points.
TREND
tells whether the line is increasing or
decreasing and can be determined using the
value of m (slope).
X-INTERCEPT
is the abscissa of the coordinates of the point at
which the graph intersects the x-axis. It is also
the value of x when y = 0. The x-intercept is the
abscissa of the coordinates of the point in which
the graph intersects the x-axis.
