“COORDINATE RACE”
Each grouplines up in a straight line.
The teacher will call out a coordinate pair. The first
player from each group runs to the board, and plot
the coordinate pair.
The groups with the most points will receive rewards.
If the answer is not correct, the other group will have
an opportunity to steal the chance of giving the
correct answer.
At the endof the lesson, the learners are able to:
a)Describe the Cartesian Coordinate System: x-axis; y-
axis; quadrant and origin,
b)Plot the given pair of coordinates in the Cartesian
coordinate plane,
c)Names the coordinates of a point and identifies its
location in the Cartesian Coordinate System; and
d)Appreciate the importance of the Cartesian
Coordinate System in solving real-world problems.
Objectives:
• Rectangular CartesianCoordinate
System – one-to-one correspondence
between the points in a geometric
plane and the set of ordered pair (x, y)
of real numbers.
CARTESIAN COORDINATE SYSTEM
Take note: the ordered pair (1, 2) is not the
same as the ordered pair (2, 1).
9.
• The firstnumber
x is called
abscissa or x –
coordinate.
CARTESIAN COORDINATE SYSTEM
Ordered Pair (x, y):
• The second
number y is
called the
ordinate or y –
coordinate.
10.
Parts of aCartesian Plane
1. Horizontal line – is the x axis
2. Vertical line_ is the y axis
3. Coordinate axes - are the x and y axes.
4. Origin – is the point of intersection of the x
and y axes.
5. Quadrants – four divisions of a Cartesian
plane.
Directions: Read eachstatement carefully and fill in the
blank with the correct word or term based on what you
have learned.
1.The intersection of the coordinate axes is called the
_____.
2.The vertical axis of the Cartesian plane is also called the
_____.
3.The pair of numbers (2, -7) is called a/ an _____ pair.
4.In the ordered pair (3, 5), 3 is called the ______.
5.The four regions formed by the coordinate axes are
called ______.
14.
ASSIGNMENT

Lewis (-4, -3)
Penny (0, 5)
Luna (-2, 4)
Hailey (6, -1)
Jodi (-1, 0)
Robin (2, -6)
