Catalan cuisine is healthy and based on the Mediterranean diet of beans, pulses, fish, meats, vegetables and olive oil. A typical simple dish is toasted bread rubbed with olive oil, garlic and fresh tomatoes. Famous Catalan chefs include Carme Ruscalleda, renowned for her restaurant Sant Pau, Ferran Adrià who headed innovative restaurant El Bulli, and Santi Santamaria, the first Catalan chef to receive three Michelin stars for his restaurant Can Fabes.
