Mindspark Brochure 2014
Mindspark is an adaptive, personalized, and internet-based learning platform that helps students in classes 1 through 10 learn at their own pace. It works by asking students questions to assess their understanding, providing instant feedback and remediation when needed, and helping teachers identify learning gaps to address. A study of over 23,000 students across 239 schools found that higher usage of Mindspark was associated with significant increases in test scores of 0.19 standard deviations the first year and 0.20 standard deviations the second year, larger impacts than other learning tools. The American International School of Lusaka launched an iPad initiative in 2011 to promote educational innovation among faculty and students. They started by providing iPads to 6th and 10th grade students on a 1:1 basis and additional class sets to be shared in other grades. Ipad Presentation
The American International School of Lusaka launched an iPad initiative in 2011 to promote educational innovation among faculty and students. They started by providing iPads to 6th and 10th grade students on a 1:1 basis and additional class sets to be shared in other grades. Parents and students provided positive feedback on how iPads helped students learn and do homework. Over the following years, the school expanded the program by providing more iPads at lower grade levels. Teachers found apps for processing, sharing work, and getting instant feedback from students to be most useful. The school plans to continue expanding the 1:1 iPad program through all grades to introduce students to 21st century technology and make it a tool for learning.

- 1. THE COMPLETE MOBILE MATH CLASSROOM Haverford Township School District CASE STUDY USING IPADS TO SHOW WORK AND INTERACT WITH THE CLASS CHALLENGE Fred Brown is the K-12 Math Coordinator for the Haverford Township School District, located outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Haverford is a high-performing district with approximately 5,900 students. Recently, Fred implemented a new year-long Algebra 1 class and needed a way to help students better understand the material while keeping them actively engaged in the classroom. SOLUTION Fred turned to Turning Technologiesโ Insight 360 as a resource for teachers to gain immediate feedback of what concepts students understood or struggled to comprehend. Insight 360 software integrates instruction with formative assessment, allowing educators to facilitate, annotate and remediate from anywhere in the classroom. Students are able to demonstrate and evaluate a full explanation with an iPadยฎ as opposed to just submitting an answer. Originally, the all-in-one classroom instruction system was introduced to several second grade classes. Soon after, nearly 175 students across grades 8 and 9 were using Insight 360 with iPad and iPad minis several times a week to answer math problems while interacting with teachers and classmates. Insight 360 creates a learning environment that is more streamlined and seamless. CONCLUSION Educators across the district have noticed a significant improvement in studentsโ engagement in the year- long Algebra 1 class. โWeโve had nothing, but positive feedback from teachers and the kids absolutely love the technology,โ Brown said. โItโs less threatening to the students and teachers can now understand whether they comprehend the material.โ Right now, Insight 360 is being integrated in eighth grade math classes for struggling learners and in the year-long Algebra 1 classes to see what impact it will have on test scores and the PA Keystone Algebra 1 Exam. The school district hopes to purchase more iPads and expand its usage of Insight 360 with other classes once it secures additional funding from the state.
