Total Wipeout: Format
The rules of the show are quite simple, you have to pass all of the obstacles in the least amount of time to get
through to the next round. The ten fastest people of the first round get through to the sweeper (the second
round), next only 5 people get through to the third round if they don’t fall off of the sweeper, the five people
each do the third round twice, they get spun around and have to get through obstacles to get to the last and
final round. 3 people get through to the wipeout zone and they have to once again, get through all the
obstacles, the person who does this in the fastest time wins and their prize is £10,000.
Rules for the contestants:
• You cannot touch or push any of the contestants so that they fail the course.
• The contestants are not allowed to have a trial run of the course before going onto TV.
• You are not allowed to do the course with no shoes on.
• You cannot take any equipment with you onto the course to help you win.
• You cant skip any of the obstacles, as this is cheating and will be disqualified.
Total Wipeout: The channel & The Host
Total Wipeout is broadcasted on BBC one, the first ever episode was aired on the 3rd of January 2009. The episodes are
normally 50-60 minutes long are usually on TV at around 11am-3pm this is because the target audience is children and
people that are home all day, so it is on at these times so that the people who want to watch it, can.
The host of the UK Total Wipeout is Richard Hammond who hosts the show inside the studio, and Amanda Byram who hosts
in the location of the contestants. Both of them are funny people as the programme has an element of humour and if they
didn’t, then the show wouldn’t flow as well as it does.
Richard Hammond is a British presenter, writer and journalist, however he is best known for co-hosting the programme ‘Top
Gear’ from 2002-2015. He is 46 years old and is married to Amanda Etheridge, he also has two children, Willow Hammond
and Isabella Hammond. He dresses smart in suites and ties but also wears clothing such as leather jackets, this shows that he
has an element of intelligence but is still a relatable person for people watching on TV which is good because this means that
the audience is more interested as they understand and like the person who is hosting.
Amanda Byram is an Irish presenter, she is best known for hosting Paradise Hotel, an American TV show. She is now 43 years
old and is married to Julian Okines, however they do not have any children. Amanda used to be a model so is very
fashionable and well dressed, she wears lots of long bright dress which shows she is classy and sophisticated but also has a
fun side to her, she has another style which is extremely sporty, she wears things like leggings and jogging bottoms which
shows she looks after herself well and has a healthy lifestyle.
Total Wipeout: The success
Total wipeout was a very successful show, after the first series the show
got so many good reviews that they carried it on for another six series,
everyone loved it. The show then ended after the four years of success
just before 2013. I think that the show was successful because it was
different from most game shows, it wasn’t on a stage answering
questions it was outside with people climbing obstacles to win money
instead, it had a big element of fun and humour in it and that’s what I
think made it so popular. Anyone could watch it even though the target
audience was younger children as it was adventurous, families could
join to watch it to, it was a programme for everyone which probably
helped its success as well.
Total Wipeout: The contestants
The contestants for Total Wipeout were people from the general public
who wanted to win a lot of money and try out something new for a bit
of fun. However there were also celebrity specials of the show, so
celebrities could also try it out and win the money for a chosen charity.
The celebrities who go on are all very different, they have had
professional dancers go on, film actors, people from popular soaps e.g.
Eastenders actors, comedians, and even people from the Olympics!
This makes the specials more interesting because they are people you
aren't expecting and people you know from other programmes or films
etc. Some celebrities who have won the specials are Luke Bailey, Joe
Absolom, Danielle Lloyd and more.
Total Wiepout: The prizes and audience
After completing Total Wipeout by getting through all the obstacles in
the quickest time you win, the prize is £10,000, if you win the celebrity
special you win money which goes to a chosen charity.
The target audience for Total Wipeout is mostly children around the
age of 7+ however, it was also popular by adults and teens, it was a
family programme that anyone could watch because it included
humour and challenges, no one found it boring because there was so
much going on. It was normally on during the day so that young
children and people at home could watch it but then was also on
around 6 so that people could watch it after work.
Take Me Out: Format
In the show Take Me Out, the aim is for each of the men that come on, to leave with a date. There
are 30 women on the stage, they each have a screen in front of them showing their name and a
white light , one of the men come down a lift onto the stage, if any of the women don’t like the man
then they turn their light off so that they don’t get chosen to go on a date with him. The man then
shows them a video of what he is like and what he does for a job etc. so the women get to learn a
bit about him, the women can turn their light off throughout the time he is on the stage. The man
then either shows them another video but from his friends or family who tell them all a bit more
about him or he shows them a talent he has like dancing. If the man is left with no lights after he
shows the women all about him it is called a ‘blackout’ and is sent home with no date, however if
there are still lights on he has to go round and turn off all of them apart from two, he then has to
ask the two women a question about anything he wants, whoever he prefers gets to go on a date
with him and a free holiday. The rest of the women then wait for the next man to come on stage to
start again.
In each episode there are normally four men that come on, and the 30 women stay the same
throughout the whole series and others get brought on so there is always 30 of them and no less.
Take Me Out: The channel and the host
Take Me Out is broadcasted on ITV, and is hosted by Paddy McGuinnes. Paddy
McGuinnes is an English comedian, a comedy actor, a TV personality and a
presenter, he is best known for hosting Benchmark. He is 43 years old and is
married to Christine Martin, they have two children together, Penelope Patricia
Mcguinness and Leo Joseph Mcguiness. He always dresses in a smart way, he wears
lots of suits or shirts which shows he looks after himself and is intelligent, however
because he is a comedian he is more relatable because people understand his
humour and finds him funny to watch on TV which is really good because it means
he is popular with the audience, causing the show to be watched more.
Take Me Out: The Success and audience
Take Me Out is very successful, the audience in the actual show is
always full on every episode, the people in the audience are mostly
women aged 20-50 and then there are the families and friends of the
contestants. The show is normally rated around 20 on ITV which means
people find it really good causing it to be more popular.
The target audience for the show is women aged from 15-50, men also
like the programme but women can relate to it more as it is about
other women finding dates and how they act on stage. It is aimed for
people above the age of 13 as the humour is sometimes quite mature
making it difficult for younger people to undertsand.
Take Me Out: Contestants
The contestants on Take Me Out are people from the general public,
single boys and girls from ages around 20-40 sign up online and hope
for a place on the show. It is only for the general public to try and find a
date and someone to be with, also it is an amazing way to meet new
people on the show, everyone comes out with either a date or some
friends. However, there have been two specials, the Celebrity
Christmas Special which was aired in 2012 and the Over 50s Text Santa
Special which was aired in 2013.
Take Me Out: The Prizes and audience
Not everyone leaves the show with a date, but most people do, if they get chosen by a man then
they get to go on a date in the island of Fernando’s the couples get to stay in a big house for the rest
of the show, they each go on one date and then a party. This isn’t shown on Take Me Out, but is on
afterwards on Take Me Out The Gossip which is hosted by Mark Wright and Laura Jackson on ITV2.
This was first introduced in 2012 because a lot of the audience wanted to know what happened
with each couple after the show and it soon became very popular.
The first ever Take Me Out, had 3.87 millions viewers, the viewers started increasing since then, for
the first episode of the second series there were 5.96 millions viewers. However the viewers have
now decreased, the most recent series, series 8 only had 3.24 million viewers. I think this is because
the show has been on for a few years and people might be getting bored of it, or it could also be
that more people are watching the gossip instead of the actual show because it shows what
happens with each couple which a lot of people find more interesting because there is drama and
arguments and dates etc.
500 Questions: Format
In the show 500 Questions, there are two contestants against each other, they each
have to answer 50 questions. For every questions they get right they win some
money, but for every question they get wrong they get a red cross, if they get three
red crosses they are out of the game and their money goes to their opponent. Then
another contestant is added on in their place and so on. If the contestant correctly
answers their questions and don’t get three red crosses then they win the round
and win the money, they then come back to the next episode to try and win again
until they reach the final episode where they win it all.
500 Questions: The channel and the host
The show originally came from America, and was first broadcasted on
the channel ABC. But 'Wall to wall media' picked up the rights to air
their own version of the show on ITV in November. It then began airing
on August 22nd 2016, the host for the UK version is Giles Coren.
Giles Coren is 47 years old and was born in London, he is married to
Esther Walker and doesn’t have any children. He is a presenter and a
restaurant critic for The Times, he has been in shows such as 'Million
Dollar Critic' and 'Back in time for...' Etc. Giles dresses in clothes such as
suites and shirts, this shows he is intelligent and looks after himself
well, it also shows he likes to look smart at all times, maybe to show
some authority.
500 Questions: The success and audience
The game show, 500 Questions is a very successful show, there has only
been two seasons so far but ITV will soon return with another as it is
very popular. The show has lots of viewers because it was so well
known in America which has made it well known in the UK, as people
have already seen it and liked it in America, they all watch it now
because they know how good it is. In America both of the seasons got
around 5-6 million viewers for each episode which is amazing! This
shows that a lot of people love watching every episode.
500 Questions: Contestants
The contestants for the show 500 Questions are from the general
public, there haven't been any celebrities to feature on the show so far.
There are two contestants that are against each other, the each have to
answer 50 questions to win money if they get three answers wrong in a
row they get three crosses and have to go home without any money,
their money the goes to the other contestant who carries on answering
questions against a new contestant.
500 Questions: Prizes
Each contestant answers 50 questions, for every question they get
correct they get £500, if they get three crosses they leave the show
with no money and no prize at all. For the contestant that wins, they
keep all of the money that they have earned, they get £25,000 and they
also win a trophy which says 500 Questions on the front in bold for
something they can keep forever.

  • 2. Total Wipeout: Format The rules of the show are quite simple, you have to pass all of the obstacles in the least amount of time to get through to the next round. The ten fastest people of the first round get through to the sweeper (the second round), next only 5 people get through to the third round if they don’t fall off of the sweeper, the five people each do the third round twice, they get spun around and have to get through obstacles to get to the last and final round. 3 people get through to the wipeout zone and they have to once again, get through all the obstacles, the person who does this in the fastest time wins and their prize is £10,000. Rules for the contestants: • You cannot touch or push any of the contestants so that they fail the course. • The contestants are not allowed to have a trial run of the course before going onto TV. • You are not allowed to do the course with no shoes on. • You cannot take any equipment with you onto the course to help you win. • You cant skip any of the obstacles, as this is cheating and will be disqualified.

There are 30 women on the stage, they each have a screen in front of them showing their name and a white light , one of the men come down a lift onto the stage, if any of the women don’t like the man then they turn their light off so that they don’t get chosen to go on a date with him. The man then shows them a video of what he is like and what he does for a job etc. so the women get to learn a bit about him, the women can turn their light off throughout the time he is on the stage. The man then either shows them another video but from his friends or family who tell them all a bit more about him or he shows them a talent he has like dancing. If the man is left with no lights after he shows the women all about him it is called a ‘blackout’ and is sent home with no date, however if there are still lights on he has to go round and turn off all of them apart from two, he then has to ask the two women a question about anything he wants, whoever he prefers gets to go on a date with him and a free holiday. The rest of the women then wait for the next man to come on stage to start again. In each episode there are normally four men that come on, and the 30 women stay the same throughout the whole series and others get brought on so there is always 30 of them and no less.
  • 8. Take Me Out: The channel and the host Take Me Out is broadcasted on ITV, and is hosted by Paddy McGuinnes. Paddy McGuinnes is an English comedian, a comedy actor, a TV personality and a presenter, he is best known for hosting Benchmark. He is 43 years old and is married to Christine Martin, they have two children together, Penelope Patricia Mcguinness and Leo Joseph Mcguiness. He always dresses in a smart way, he wears lots of suits or shirts which shows he looks after himself and is intelligent, however because he is a comedian he is more relatable because people understand his humour and finds him funny to watch on TV which is really good because it means he is popular with the audience, causing the show to be watched more.
  • 9. Take Me Out: The Success and audience Take Me Out is very successful, the audience in the actual show is always full on every episode, the people in the audience are mostly women aged 20-50 and then there are the families and friends of the contestants. The show is normally rated around 20 on ITV which means people find it really good causing it to be more popular. The target audience for the show is women aged from 15-50, men also like the programme but women can relate to it more as it is about other women finding dates and how they act on stage. It is aimed for people above the age of 13 as the humour is sometimes quite mature making it difficult for younger people to undertsand.
  • 10. Take Me Out: Contestants The contestants on Take Me Out are people from the general public, single boys and girls from ages around 20-40 sign up online and hope for a place on the show. It is only for the general public to try and find a date and someone to be with, also it is an amazing way to meet new people on the show, everyone comes out with either a date or some friends. However, there have been two specials, the Celebrity Christmas Special which was aired in 2012 and the Over 50s Text Santa Special which was aired in 2013.
  • 11. Take Me Out: The Prizes and audience Not everyone leaves the show with a date, but most people do, if they get chosen by a man then they get to go on a date in the island of Fernando’s the couples get to stay in a big house for the rest of the show, they each go on one date and then a party. This isn’t shown on Take Me Out, but is on afterwards on Take Me Out The Gossip which is hosted by Mark Wright and Laura Jackson on ITV2. This was first introduced in 2012 because a lot of the audience wanted to know what happened with each couple after the show and it soon became very popular. The first ever Take Me Out, had 3.87 millions viewers, the viewers started increasing since then, for the first episode of the second series there were 5.96 millions viewers. However the viewers have now decreased, the most recent series, series 8 only had 3.24 million viewers. I think this is because the show has been on for a few years and people might be getting bored of it, or it could also be that more people are watching the gossip instead of the actual show because it shows what happens with each couple which a lot of people find more interesting because there is drama and arguments and dates etc.
