A PRESESENTATION ON
CASE CONTROL STUDY.
DEFINITION
A case-control study is a type of observational
study that looks at people who have a disease or
condition (cases) and people who do not have the
disease or condition (controls). The researchers
then compare the two groups to see if there are
any differences in their exposure to risk factors that
may be associated with the disease or condition.
The study then looks back in time to see if the cases
and controls had ddifferent levels of
exposure
If the cases were more likely to have been exposed to
the risk factors than the control, this suggest that the
risk factors maybe associated with the outcomes
CHARACTERISTICS OF
CASE CONTROL STUDY
Characteristics of case-control studies:
1. They're observational studies.
2. They compare cases to controls.
3. They're usually retrospective (looking back in time).
4. They often use medical records.
5. They can use a variety of designs (nested, hospital-based, population-based).
6. They're typically used to study rare diseases.
7. They have limitations (recall bias, selection bias).
8. They can be less expensive and time-consuming than other types of studies.
MEASURES OF
ASSOCIATION OF CASE
CONTROl STUDY
The measure of associationof the case control study is
the ODDS RATIO as shown below:
