Cleopatra was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, who engaged in political alliances by marrying her brother Ptolemy XIII and later Julius Caesar. After Caesar's assassination, she aligned with Mark Antony and bore him three children, but their alliance lost the Battle of Actium to Octavian, who later annexed Egypt as a Roman province.
