Carnival in Venice by class 2c Campalto, Venice
1.
2. • The Venice Carnival was a magical time for everyone and
involved the whole city of Venice.
• It broke all the rules of society and State and gave everyone
the chance to lose in revelry.
• This was an intense period for the Venetians as they could
wear their masks and their fanciful costumes.
• There were many parties, shows and musical events in
every palace, theatre and square of the city.
• Along the waterways, people would greet each other with a
"Good morning Mrs Mask!".
• Personal identity, sex and social class were no more; all that
mattered was taking part in the great illusion of the
Carnival.
3. Bauta
(the typical mask in Venice during the XVIII century)
The mask in the city of Venice
has ancient origins and was used for
many months of the year: from the day of Santo Stefano, which
marked the start of the Venetian carnival, to midnight of
Shrove Tuesday
which marked the end.
During all major events of the Serenissima Republic
the wearing of "mask and cloak" were permitted.
4. • From the 11th to 21st of February we are going to
celebrate and remember Venice as the ancient capital of
modern theatre. Furthermore we are going to recall the
sense of disguising: the discovery of a new "character" of
our personality through the wearing of a costume.
• During the festival each visitor of the city will become a
protagonist of this famous Festival that is a fundamental
part of our country’s cultural heritage.
5. • The city of Venice will be the host of different scenic
shows and events in main ”Campi” and on the Grand
Canal featuring concerts, live performances by
international artists and mask parades.
• The Carnival offers a daily and diverse artistic
program in the Grand Theatre of St. Mark's Square
and in dozens of other public art spaces from early in
the morning until late at night.
6. Put on your mask and
we will see you in Venice,
where
life is a theatre!
