2. A seventh grade English teacher and
published author, Stefania Shaffer reached
a point in her life when she had to assume
more and more responsibilities associated
with having an elderly mother. Stefania
Shaffer describes this process in her second
book, 9 Realities of Caring for an Elderly
Parent: A Love Story of a Different Kind.
The narrative reflects the life changes
Shaffer went through when she moved
back in with her mother after nearly a
decade's absence.
3. She quickly found that her mother could no
longer attend to all her daily needs. In
response, Shaffer devoted herself to helping
her live as securely as possible in her final years.
The book consists of three parts. The first
describes the challenges of dealing with
decades of clutter in the home. The second
part concerns the necessity of arranging legal
affairs when a parent's decline sets in. The
book concludes with thoughts about one's new
and bewildering status as an adult orphan, as
well as the advantages of grief counseling.
