Navigating Generational Differences in the Professional EnvironmentMeghan Granito
With five generations meeting in the workplace for the first time in history, we are challenged daily to understand the attitudes, values, and demands of our coworkers, customers, and the public in general. Understanding the similarities and differences between the generations, including distinct preferences for how to communicate effectively, is key to successful relationships.

We’re thrilled to welcome Ariel Diaz for this special event dedicated to education.
Founder and CEO of Boundless, a fast growing startup that creates and distributes on line free and low-cost textbooks, Ariel Diaz is an experienced entrepreneur with an incredible passion for improving the educational landscape for generations to come. Communication and marketing are different and will always be a challenge if we do not keep up with the language and knowledge of who it is we are targeting.Solutions can be found.
MANAGING MULTI-GENERATIONS IN THE BARBADIAN WORKPLACE –
The Silent Crisis & New Strategies of Human Relations Management
For the first time since World War II, we are experiencing in the Western World
the interesting phenomenon of having four generations in the workplace sitting
and working side by side. In some cases, the baby boomers are working next to
their children and grandchildren of generations X and Y.
This phenomenon has attracted a lot of attention on the part of HR practitioners
in the USA but little research has been done to date in the Caribbean. This paper
will therefore seek to address a similar phenomenon taking place in the
Caribbean through the writer's own experience while serving on the Management
Team of a local statutory corporation.
The findings, though preliminary, are oft times humorous but can serve as a
linchpin to help us better understand the root cause of many of today's personnel
issues within the workplace. The paper further suggests that identifying this
phenomenon is a first step to creating solutions that cut across the needs of
these four generations.

Want to understand how our population is aging and what it means for you? Want an Action Plan for retirement? Use Abaris' simple tutorial to get answers to these questions and more.
Science has proved it: people today are living longer than ever before. But as average life expectancies have been rising, the mean retirement age has stayed more or less the same. Since 1940 the average life span has gone up about 17 years, now at about age 79, yet the average age of retirement is more or less the exact same, about 65 years old. That leaves a big gap of your life filled without a paycheck, which is why Social Security, pensions and retirement income products are so important.
Despite the importance of Social Security and pension plans, fewer people than ever have pensions today and Social Security rarely covers all of a retiree’s expenses. On average, money received from Social Security only makes up about 42% of an individual’s pre-retirement income. Additionally, Social Security reserves are suffering from underfunding, and are expected to run out by 2033 under current law. Pension plans are great in that they guarantee a lifetime income, but they’re becoming more and more rare. Today, the predominant form of individual retirement savings is in 401(k)s and IRAs. But those plans don’t automatically provide lifetime income, leaving people to struggle with longevity risk: the chance that you live far longer than you expect. If you lead a long healthy life, as you certainly hope to, you’d end up running out of your savings. One solution? Deferred income annuities.
A deferred income annuity is a way of insuring against longevity. You make a payment, or series of payments, to an insurance company. Insurance companies are able to pool risk and use the market for pooling and protection in ways that you can’t on your own. This allows them to pay you an annual income, beginning at some future date, for the rest of your life. Surely stocks tend to yield a greater financial return, but with a deferred income annuity the value is in the guaranteed protection and the peace of mind. Deferred income annuities aren’t right for everyone. If you’re younger than 45, in below average health, most concerned about passing money onto your heirs, able to “self-insure” off the wealth of your investment income, or if you haven’t saved enough and need to keep the money you have in case of emergency then you’re probably not the best fit for a deferred income annuity. But otherwise, you’re looking like a great candidate.

Repurpose Your Career - 5 Steps to your Next Career PivotCareer Pivot
Whether you are a Baby Boomer, Gen Xer or Millennial retirement like your parents had is no longer a possibility for most. Everyone will have to go through career changes or Career Pivots. This webinar will focus on 5 Steps to a Career Pivot
Step 1
Know Thyself. Take time to understand your core needs like autonomy, creativity and your own definition of a good team. Use past jobs to point to what you love and hate. Many Baby Boomers and Gen Xers have morphed into versions of themselves in order to fit comfortably in corporate America so that they really don’t know themselves anymore. Spend time crafting an elevator pitch that explains who you really are and what you really want.
Everyone can learn a lot about themselves through assessments (Birkman, MBTI, Kolbe, DISC,..), moments of clarity (read my book) and career reflection
Step 2
Build your tribe. Who can you count on for help and support in this transition? Who is going to pick up your spirits when you slip and fall? Build a team around you and keep in touch with them.
Step 3
Act on facts, not assumptions. Often we think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence but when we get there we find out it’s Astroturf. You need to turn off assumptions and really research new opportunities.
Step 4
Learn how to network strategically. Using social media tools like LinkedIn and Twitter you can target individuals that you need to meet and develop relationships. When you network, do it strategically and share your new elevator pitch.
Step 5
Learn to ask for help. Yes, I am a guy. I do not like asking for directions. But you’re heading into new territory and no one succeeds at a career pivot without others’ help. Set aside your claims to status and your pride in order to reach for something new where you may now be the rookie. This is hard at first, but it gets easier.
Leveraging LinkedIn - Creating a Professional Brand That People will Remember...Career Pivot
You have a brand! Whether you like or not! Your brand tells the world and prospective employers who you are! LinkedIn tells the world what you do and what problems you solve for your client or employer. This session we will discuss how to create your professional brand in your LinkedIn Profile such that people will remember you. We will discuss: – Your picture – It is far more important than you think – Your headline – It needs to demonstrate your brand – Your brand story – You should NOT write this yourself but find someone to write it for you – How to demonstrate to prospective employers that YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF – How to make sure you are found by prospective employers This will be an extension of my presentation that I will be giving at SxSWi – Personal PowerWorks: Power Your Personal Brand and Career http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_OE03703

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
