Component of Cardiovascular System
1) The Heart
2) Blood Vessels
– Arteries and Arterioles
– Veins and Venules
– Capillaries
3) Blood
The Heart
Location:-
Muscular organ located between the lungs
Covering of Heart:-
• Pericardium
• Serous fluid
Layers of Heart:-
Epicardium
• Outside layer
• Connective tissue layer
Myocardium
• Middle layer
• Mostly cardiac muscle
Endocardium
• Inner layer
The Heart Chambers:-
 Atria
• Thin-walled upper chambers
• Separated by atrial septum
• receiving chamber
 Ventricles
• Lower chambers
• make up the bulk of the muscle
mass of the heart
• Separated by intraventricular septum
The Heart Valves:-
Tricuspid valve
◦ Separates right atrium from right ventricle
Bicuspid valve
◦ Separates left atrium from left ventricle
Pulmonic valve
◦ Separates right ventricle from pulmonary artery
Aortic valve
◦Separates left ventricle from aorta .
The Pulmonary Circulation
the right side of the heart as the right ventricle pumps blood into
the pulmonary artery.
The pulmonary artery then carries the de-oxygenated blood to the
lungs
The blood is then oxygenated, while at the same time carbon-
dioxide is removed into the lungs
The Pulmonary Circulation
The Systemic Circulation
