Captain America Societal Figure
Captain America: American Societal Figure
Ever since the early 20th century, superheroes have been created and written about for readers
around the world. Although they are popular for their entertainment value, superheroes provide a
deeper, more profound purpose for society. For example, they serve as role models, teach vital
morals, and help people cope with real world issues. Possibly the best example of these purposes
can be found in Captain America, as he represents the American people through his loyalty and
dedication to the citizens of the United States of America. He was created by Joe Simon and Jack
Kirby to represent a fighting figure for America in World War II. This would not only strengthen the
American identity, but also garner the interest of Americans in joining the war effort. Captain
America symbolizes patriotism as he relentlessly supports and fights for America.
Captain America was created in early 1941 by writer Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby. Since Simon
and Kirby strongly believed that the United States should intervene in World War II to fight Adolf
Hitler, they created Captain America "as a vehicle to draw attention to the threat posed by Nazi
Germany," (Schnakenberg). In the first comics that he starred in, Captain America was portrayed as
a soldier who passionately fought on the American side of World War II. The soldier went to war for
America and was loyal to the American cause, inspiring American citizens to join the war effort. His

Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants
Captain Underpants is a series of semi–autobiographical children's novels by American author, Dav
Pilkey. They follow the story of two fourth grade boys, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two best
friends that are seen as the class clowns or troublemakers of their school, Jerome Horwitz
Elementary. They are constantly pulling pranks including changing a sign that says "Please Wash
Your Hands After Using The Toilet" into "Please Wash Your Hands In The Toilet". George and
Harold write a comic series together about a superhero by the name of "Captain Underpants" who
wears nothing but his underwear and a red cape. The pair accidentally hypnotizes their ill–natured
principal, Mr. Krupp, into believing that he is Captain Underpants and fights crime ... Show more

The necessity of having power over children is an effort to maintain the status quo. There is a need
to control the environment, especially that of elementary school in order to keep the peace and
maintain some semblance of order. It's always stood that children are expected to look up to and
respect all people in positions of authority. But, as stated in Gibron's article, teachers and
administrators believe that because the children enjoy the books, and laugh at them, that they
identify with the protagonists and their adventures, and they fear that children will try to recreate
those scenarios. It becomes a "threat to the status quo" when children start experiencing that inner
freedom that reading Captain Underpants gives children (Gibron). Although the books have been
criticized for their "anti–authoritative tone", this isn't why the books were banned in Naugatuck,
Connecticut. Don't forget – how does this tie into one of the readings we've done in

Individualism Versus Collectivism In Captain America
On April 26th, 2018 it finally arrived. Every single marvel movie from Captain America: The First
Avenger to Black Panther, have all hinted at the purple super–villain, Thanos, and he did not
disappoint! Most of the heroes of the MCU appeared and I was surprised by some of their deaths in
the movie. I thought this movie was spectacular and I believe it did not fall into some of the
common issues Marvel movies typically have.
Before you go see this movie, you should see some of the following MCU films before you see
Infinity War, to see what each of the infinity stones and get a basic idea of the story so far:
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor: The Dark World
Thor: Ragnorok

Josh Brolin did particularly well as the Mad Titan, Thanos.
Cinematography: I am no expert at this, but I thought the cinematography for this film was good.
Unlike previous movies, this one had the fights between the hero and the antagonist in varied,
colorful set pieces, from the capital city of Wakanda, to the desolate landscape of Titan.
Thanos: Apart from Killmonger, and Loki, most of the MCU's villains have been forgettable, since
almost all of them want to destroy/rule the world because... they are evil. However, Thanos was
portrayed as a sympathetic villain, he did not view himself as evil, but as a hero who is forced to do
heinous deeds to save the universe from the fate that befell Titan.
Post Credit Scene: Along with the obligatory Stan Lee cameo, fans of the Marvel Cinematic
universe also expect to see a post credit scene hinting at another movie. This movie is no exception,
though it seems as if the wait for this revelation was a bit longer than it usually was. As usual, the
scene did not disappoint, and it foreshadowed the Captain Marvel movie, which from what I heard,
will take place in the 1990s.

Captain Americ Civil War
The film Captain America: Civil War was based off of a script written by Christopher Markus and
Stephen McFeeley, and it was adjusted to one of Marvel Comics' greatest crossover occasions: Mark
Millar's Civil War. The movie's plot is tied into the aftermath of The Avengers: Age of Ultron. It
could be argued that there isn't even a "main villain" in the story at all. The true enemies in this film
are the protagonists; Tony and Steve. This is an incredibly personal story. One that focuses on the
individual characters and their struggles. It's not about creating a "villain" for them to fight, its about
these people creating "villains" in each other.
The movie Captain America: Civil War begins with James "Bucky" Barnes in 1991 where he is

The idea of there being a force of good versus evil is being replaced with "politics" by which
national security, power, and outside issues will direct how superhero's act in catastrophes. That in
itself is a cause worth fighting for, regardless of what side you're on. It is a much more relatable
struggle than what we're used to seeing, because it presents an interesting question that's been at the
heart of controversy for many years this ideology is at the center of most debates about important
issues. However, it's has still affected them all personally. And that's what this film is, a personal
story. It's about Captain America is trying to save his friend. It's about Tony Stark trying to
compensate for his guilty conscience. Ultimately through, it's a story about family. And how those
closest to you, are also the ones who can hurt you the most. This is why the final fight was so brutal,
not just visually but emotionally too. It's not like they were forced to fight, they chose to. They both
make valid points and both have their fair share of criticisms. But it's a conflict that exists in the real
world nonetheless, so when you hear superhero's having a similar arguments then the audience
becomes more invested in the outcome of the story. And the beauty of the outcome, is that there
wasn't really a definitive "winning" side. By the end of the film, they still disagree with one another,

Captain Americ The First Avenger Essay
The movie, "Captain America: The First Avenger," involves two posthuman characters, which
Marvel Comics created. Captain America is a super hero, who is known as the world's first super
soldier and many humans look up to him all over the planet. Red Skull is a super villain and is
known to create havoc and terror in the lives of humans. Post humans can challenge the idea of
community in several ways, but one factor that tends to stay the same, relating to posthumans, is
that humans can easily be persuaded to follow in the footsteps of someone they believe is superior
to them, such as Captain America or Red Skull.
To begin, a doctor, named Dr. Erskine, from New York, New York created Captain America in 1941.
This was a time when Americans were very proud of their nation and centered everything around
World War II. The community was mostly anti–German, since Germany was one of the three
countries America was battling during World War II. Captain America, who was known as Steve
Rogers before he transformed over, was a scrawny boy who failed to meet the requirements to join
the military. Eager to join, Steve Rogers volunteered himself for an operation that Dr. Erskine
planned to conduct, which would alter his physique to that of a super human. After ingesting the
"Super Soldier Serum," Steve Rogers transformed into Captain America. His muscles and reflexes
were greatly enhanced, as well as his height and frame. An agent from Nazi, Germany assassinated
Dr. Erskine because he

Similarities Between Beowulf And Captain America
Superhero's: Beowulf and Captain American The novel Beowulf, A New Translation with an
Introduction. by Burton Raffel, is an epic tale of good vs evil. Beowulf is the idealistic hero of the
Middle Ages based on his generosity, strength, and courage. He puts his life on the line for an entire
kingdom by protecting his people and proves his worthiness of a superior warrior. He is continually
recognized for his strength and courage. Beowulf is not so different from modern day superheroes
such as Captain America in the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. Captain America defeats evil with
his mighty shield and protects the people through his generosity to protect Earth, his strength, and
courage. The protagonist of both the novel and movie share commonalities of a superhero. Heroes
are introduced to people early on in life usually as fictional characters, but as children grow older
their perceptions of hero's change. The characteristics of a hero are usually based around the ideas
of a society or culture. In the epic Beowulf, the main character is thought of as a hero. Beowulf, a
pagan warrior and the main character of the epic, shows certain characteristics such as generosity,
strength, and courage, which portray him as a hero. Beowulf is faced with three forces to fight,
Grendel, a monster, Grendel's mother, and the dragon. Beowulf hears about the troubles that the
Danes are having with some evil monster named Grendel. Although Beowulf knows that he could

Captain Nemo Quotes
Captain Nemo
Captain Nemo is a mysterious, quiet man. It's not even certain that his name is Captain Nemo,
Nemo in Latin means no one Meaning that he wants them to call him captain no one. It appears that
throughout the book Captain Nemo isn't telling all the facts about himself as Verne wants us to be
curious about Captain Nemo's past. The only information that Captain Nemo gives us about himself
is that he wanted to leave society. We realize this when he says I am not what you call a civilized
being! I have broken with society for reasons which I alone have the right to appreciate. So I do not
obey its rules, and I ask you never to invoke them in my presence again! (1.10.20) He is leaving

But while the Nautilus is attacked by a bunch of squid, Nemo does his best to fend them off. He
even puts his life on the line to save Ned Land, but he cannot prevent one of his own crew members
from being killed. After that He breaks down and cries. That part in the book really shows us that
Nemo is capable of caring for the new people, it shows us that under the crusty exterior Captain
Nemo is a real softie. His serious bitterness is quite off–putting at the beginning of the book. It
makes you wonder what had to have happened to make him the way that he is. It may have been due
to the fact that his wife and children got killed, it may have been because of untold reasons, his
childhood, bad experiences with life itself, or a job failure. Either way it shows us that we, as
humans can change just by spending time and investing in people.
While reading 20,000 leagues under the sea I found myself wondering about how nice it would be to
just go somewhere no one has been before and start again. Maybe Nemo was just tired of his
everyday life where there were rules and expectations. He might have felt like there was nothing to
stay for so he left to see the unknown depths of the ocean. I believe that its human nature to be
curious of what we are unsure of. Captain Nemo seemed like a person that pushes his, and

we are all able to showcase our talents. Girls are hand selected based on their talents to be one of

the Red or Gold team. Through months of preparation and practice, the captains teach or assist their
classmates with their specific dances, drills, lines, songs, sets, publicity, costumes, and or tech. As a
singer, being a choral captain was always one of my dreams. Everybody talked about Red and Gold

What Is The Monomyth In Captain America
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an amazing sequel to the first Captain America movie. This
movie follows some stages of Joseph Campbell's "monomyth theory" and heres a few. The first
stage is the "call to adventure". Captain America is actually called to complete missions a couple of
times in the movie. First he is called by S.H.I.E.L.D. to save hostages from a boat that is full of
hydra members. Also known as nazi's. The second time he is called is when an assassin that goes by
the name the "Winter Soldier" shoots his boss down right in front of him. Before Fury (his boss)
"dies" he tells cap that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been compromised by hydra and that he must do whatever
he can to get rid of the hydra agents. Another stage of the monomyth theory is the "supernatural
aid." In the movie Captain America secretly receives something from Fury while being hunted by
Hydra. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next stage of the monomyth theory is the "atonement with the father." Captain America faces
off with the Winter Soldier. After fighting each other for a while cap knocks the Winter Soldier's
mask off. He realizes it's his dead best friend Bucky. Now that he knows this, cap doesn't try to kill
him anymore, he tries and persuades Bucky while there still fighting to try and remember him but it
doesn't work. So he knocks him out and defeats him. The second last stage is "the ultimate boon."
Captain America achieves the goal of his battle. He got rid of all the hydra agents in S.H.I.E.L.D.
He also defeated the Winter Soldier. The final stage of the monomyth theory is the "freedom to
live." After cap defeats Bucky and clears his name he is a free man. He chooses to continue being an
avenger and to teach the younger and more new avengers about the obstacles that may come their

Character Analysis Of Captain Nemo
Character Analysis Captain Nemo is remembered as one of the greatest anti–heroes in all of science
fiction. The commander of the Nautilus is brilliantly mysterious, and a sinister character who still
shows signs of sorrow. He seems to be at war with humanity, yet gives back to the poor. The name
Nemo means "no one" in latin, which only increases the uncertainty surrounding the captain.
Captain Nemo first describes himself by saying ""I am not what you call a civilised man! I [am]
done with society entirely, for reasons which I alone have the right of appreciating. I do not... obey
its laws, and I desire you never to allude to them before me again!" (Verne, 57). The outright anger
displayed by Nemo alludes to his hatred of society, and sheds light on the reasoning of his self
imposed exile. Nemo's efforts to separate himself and his men from society is shown in the burial
process for his dead crew members. Instead of burying his men on land, Nemo buries them in a
massive underwater burial, to keep them safe from "sharks and men" (Verne, 150). Out of respect
toward the bodies and in an almost , Nemo believes it is just as important to keep the dead bodies
out of the reach of humans as it is to prevent them from being eaten by sharks. Although Nemo goes
through great effort to isolate himself from civilization, signs of compassion towards humanity in
his character through his actions displayed at Vigo Bay. At the site of a great naval battle, Captain

"Differences Between Reviews"
Critics can pretty much review about anything and many of which are very similar with one another,
however, some of them are quite different actually. The two critics Stuckmann and Jahns focus on
Captain America: Civil War (the movie.) Both critics talk about how they feel towards the movie in
their own opinions while trying not to spoil the entire movie. Stuckmann and Jahns may not support
each other face to face, however, they both portray similar perspectives while having different views
on Captain America: Civil War. For example, they both give different insights on the conflict, action
scenes and characters while agreeing with one another, while also having some similarities between
the two.
Everybody takes conflict in movies differently or similarly. Movies as of today have impacted
people in many ways. Such as why Stuckmann believes the conflict behind Captain America: Civil
War is "friendship and vengeance" (inclining the cause of conflict within the movie is friendship and
vengeance.) While Jahns, broadly thinks the conflict is because of "two sides of the argument"
(Stating that their two or more people causing the conflict) in the movie. Both critics agree that there
is a cause behind the conflict in the movie. However, as Jahns mentions he does not believe the
conflict is because of friendship and vengeance. He believes theirs (without really providing in–
depth details) two sides of an argument causing the conflict in the movie.

Captains Of Industry Essay
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, during the climax of the American Industrial Revolution, there
was a small group of men who owned the major businesses and were leaders of their industries.
They owned factories, railroads, banks, and even created company towns for the sole purpose of
housing their workers. Due to the efforts of these few men, the U.S. economy became the envy of
the world, and America became a leading world power. They provided the public with products that
were in high demand for reasonable prices, and opened their markets to countries overseas.
Although many people believe the early industrialists were Robber Barons who exploited the poor,
these great men were truly Captains of Industry who created new ways of doing ... Show more

Although some of these criticisms are well founded, men like Andrew Carnegie and John D.
Rockefeller were, in fact, Captains of Industry because they employed millions and created new
ways of doing business. Before all these industrialists can along, America was just another country
that had little significance to the world. If it was not for them, we as a nation would not be where we
are today. The industrialists prospered mainly due to their wit, and the many innovations that they
brought to their various fields of business. They created monopolies because they were the most
effective forms of enterprise, and there were no laws that prohibited or restricted their use. As John
D. Rockefeller himself said, "I believe in the spirit of combination and cooperation when properly
conducted .It helps to reduce waste, and waste is a dissipation of power."(Danzer 424) Critics say
that these men ruthlessly took over their fields of business, and "did not play fair". What's wrong
with striving for success? What's wrong with being efficient? What's wrong with making a product
that no one can equal? What's wrong with besting your competitors? Nothing. The principal reason
for the success of the industrialists was their ability to provide products and services to the public at
reasonable rates. This was also the main reason that they were so despised and vilified by their
competitors and the covetous

Captain Americ Captain's Superhero
Captain America is a Marvel comic book character, created in 1940. His real name is Steve Rodgers.
The Captain became a beloved superhero around the time of World War II. After being rejected by
the Army, Rodgers found himself as the test subject of a super–soldier project. This experiment was
successful and it gave him abnormal strength, endurance, intelligence and speed. As this 'perfect'
human and soldier, Captain America worked closely with soldiers to fight against the Nazis. During
a mission. Rodgers was forced to crash his plane into a glacier. This glacier kept him frozen for
almost seventy years. He was eventually thawed–out in modern times. Today, Captain America is a
loved, and timeless superhero.
The Captain has a multitude of strengths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain America believes in justice, and that it must be served to those who have done wrong. For
instance, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier Nick Fury was chased after agents claiming to
work for local law enforcement and S.H.I.E.L.D. To hide from these men, fury went to Rodger`s
home, informing him how S.H.I.E.L.D was compromised. Soon after, he was shot by the Winter
Soldier. Fury later died while surgeon`s were trying to save him. The Captain made it is mission to
figure out who compromised S.H.I.E.L.D and to serve them justice for their role in Fury`s death. In
the United States we also have a strong sense of justice. We have an entire system that is devoted to
serve justice to those have committed crimes. Another value that is important to Steve Rodgers is
courage. As a superhero, one cannot be easily frightened. Therefore, Captain America is not afraid
to risk his life to save others. Throughout the move he is not apprehensive about jumping out of
planes, or fighting ten enemies in an elevator. In the movie, his tremendous example of courage is
towards the end. The Captain was in charge of overriding the software for the three ships. This
would result in the three ships blowing up. Captain America was willing to let himself die on the
ship in order to successfully override the systems. This action ended up saving thousands of people.

In Captain America: Civil War there is a very large problem that divides the Avengers. The issue is
that the Avengers who have so far been checked only by their own moral codes and limitations are
being asked to sign the Sokova Accords which would require the registration of heroes along with
the subsequent monitoring and delegation of their actions. This is explained to the audience very
well in the scene where the Avengers team as it stood then are talking about the accords and if they
will sign them or not. The two sides of the movie are drawn here, with Steve Rogers/Captain
America saying that the Avengers would then just become lackeys for the government who would
them use them to further their own agendas, while Tony Stark/ Iron Man believes that signing the
accords would benefit everyone and greatly increase the accountability of the Avengers. In short,
this debate scene is introducing the theater audience to the issue and trying to get us to pick whether
to support the accords or to not, this essay will analyze the appeals used by both parties.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is a great political thriller from Marvel Comics, which
features Chris Evans as the lead actor. From the old–fashioned blockbuster entertainment "Captain

city. I choose the side Tony Stark is on because he wants to keep the Avengers under control and not
allow them to go out and destroy the cities that there fighting in. Tony Stark is the one that wanted

Captain America, Winter Soldier
In the film Captain America, Winter Soldier, the audience gets a closer look at the relationship
between Captain America and Natasha Romano (Black Widow). Throughout the movie, one factor
that always comes into play is whether Natasha can be trusted as former spy and agent of
S.H.I.E.L.D. Her past, personality, and loyalty are what make Natasha a questionable person.
Although she seems to have ulterior motives, she ultimately proves to be very trustworthy in the
end.
The main reason Natasha can be perceived as untrustworthy is due to her past as a spy for the
K.G.B. She also states several times that changing her personality due to the situation is something
she does often. This leads others to question which side she is on and where ... Show more content

This is evident when she retrieved the data from the ship; she was the prime suspect. It is also
implied that in her former career as a spy, Natasha had done things she was not proud of.
Lastly, she and Captain America are vastly different which is what puts them at odds. Captain is
upfront and honest, whereas she is coy and playful to the point of seeming untrustworthy. She is
always one step ahead of everyone else and does not always notify her teammates. When she
speaks, she did not always give direct answers.
On the contrary, Natasha was willing to put herself in danger numerous times in order to save the
world. This type of behavior is evident throughout all of the action scenes. She fights and puts
herself in danger for the greater good. Perhaps her most meaningful action was leaking all of
S.H.I.E.L.D and H.Y.D.R.A's information. When Pierce reminded her that her past would also be
revealed to the world, she was still willing to go through with the process. As a person who valued
her anonymity as, this was a huge sacrifice, but she realized that what they were dealing with was
something more important. There were also times where Captain America could not do things alone
and she used her skill sets to get them through the situations.

Captain America Character Traits
Genuine compassion is a difficult trait to find today in a world so full of hatred and violence. One
hero of fiction that we could learn from to combat this negativity, and I especially have, is Captain
America (Steve Rogers) from the Marvel Comics Universe. He is more than just a character in my
favorite movies, he has taught me to be kind, loyal, and courageous and I believe our world could
use the same compassion that he displays. Captain America's loyalty is one of his most striking
traits. In the second film of the Captain America trilogy, he discovered that his best friend was the
villain he had been hunting the entire movie. Rogers did not turn his back on his friend, and even
refused to fight him periodically throughout the movie. Instead, Rogers helped rehabilitate his friend
back from the brain damage he suffered. In a similar fashion, I have learned to defend my friends
from others, and remain loyal to them. When arguments break out, I look to understand everyone's
side of the story and I never jump to conclusions. Every conflict has a solution and a source. Rogers
has shown me that staying with your friends, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

feed them, even if its my own lunch, and I always keep a variety of helpful items for their use in my
bag. Including, but not limited to: lip balm, band–aids, tissues, and breath mints. I attribute a large
portion of this aspect of my personality to Rogers. He volunteered to crash a plane full of explosives
into the sea, with himself inside, so that others would be allowed to live. I remember watching that

Captain American Speech: Captain America
Captain America Speech
He goes by the name Steve Rogers or the greatest soldier in history and if you still don't know who
he is then maybe you'll know him by his original name "Super America". Okay never mind,
probably not because the creators realised that it didn't sound good as too many Marvel Superheroes
had the word "Super" in them and so they finally agreed on "Captain America" which clearly sounds
much better than Super America.
Captain America is a fictional Marvel Superhero which was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in
1941. He was known as Steve Rogers at first, but because of his bravery and compassion, a scientist
created the Super Solider Serum which enhanced Steve Rogers' human potentials and thus gave
birth to Captain America. The characterisation of Captain America was influenced by political social
injustice during the 20th century. Captain America, obviously being American who is part of the
Allied Powers, fought against the Axis Powers which consisted of Germany, Italy and Japan.
Captain America is seen as a heroic icon in WW2 as well as in the battles against Communism. The

Relationships In Captain America And Peggy Carter
Captain America has significant relationships with both Carter women in the MCU. In his first film,
Peggy Carter is who pushes him to be Captain America, to not get wound up in the fame but to
remember who he is and why he joined the military – to fight for the little guys. Peggy is the last
person Steve talks to before going into the ice, and he sacrifices himself not only to save the world,
but to save her. They make plans with one another so that his fear of what he is about to do can be
decreased (not that it works). Sharon Carter (Peggy's niece), is introduced in Captain America:
Winter Soldier as Agent 13 – it is not until Civil War that we learn of her connection to Peggy.
Sharon and Steve's romance begins in Winter Soldier to a degree, ironically though she is the one
who protects him for most of their relationship that we have seen. She defends him during the Hydra
take over and even in Civil War she breaks a lot of rules by giving his gear back as well as insider
information. What Sharon offers is a tie not only to his past, but a tool to help guide his future. ...

The Alegorical Nature of O Captain! My Captain! by Walt...
Explication of "O Captain! My Captain!" "O Captain! My Captain!" is one of the most popular
poems ever written by Walt Whitman. Upon the initial reading of this poem, one may perceive the
poem to be about a loyal captain who leads his crew on a treacherous, but successful, voyage which
ends in devastation. If interpreted literally this is the poem's only meaning, but for those who look
further there is an underlying story behind the words of Whitman. Whitman uses multiple literary
elements throughout this poem in order to unmask the story of Abraham Lincoln's journey and
ultimate death as a result of the Civil War and his fight to end slavery. The title of the poem, "O
Captain! My Captain!" , insinuates that the poem will be centered ... Show more content on

The speaker states, "Rise up – for you the flag is flung– for you the bugle trills" (line 10). This is
interpreted as the ending of the war due to the patriotic symbolism of the flag which stands for
freedom and also victory. Within this stanza, the importance of the captain is now extended from
just the speaker to all those who await the ship's arrival. This is demonstrated as the speaker states,
"For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning" (lines 11–12). The joyful tone of the
stanza ceases towards the end as an unexpected downfall of emotions begins. Whitman uses
repetition in lines 15 and 16 when he states "It is some dream that on the deck, / You've fallen cold
and dead" (lines 15–16). This serves as a disturbing reminder that the figure which was most
significant to the entire situation is no longer alive. The depressing realization of the captain's death
is evident and seen most within the last stanza as the tone changes from that of triumph and elation
to heartbreak and grief. This is shown through Whitman's use of imagery as the speaker states, "My
Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, / My father does not feel my arm, he has no
pulse nor will" (lines 17–18). This provides a detailed description of the lifeless captain as he lies on
the deck. The following lines describe the successfulness of the mission as the captain has led his
crew to safety after accomplishing the goals which were set. This alteration in tone

Captain Americ The American Dream
Captain's Duty From Captain America's birth, he symbolized America. In and out of costume,
Captain America, AKA Steve Rodgers, exemplifies all the best qualities of America. He embodies
the American dream. America continues to grow more diverse every day, yet still Steve remains the
undying patriotic example of what it means to be American.
The American dream in simple terms is the fulfillment of the ideals the America was founded on
with equal respect. To go into more detail, the American Dream allows all people the rights of
liberty, autonomy, justice, dignity, the pursuit of happiness, and the ability to hold the country's
leaders accountable when they fail to uphold these rights. Because the American dream applies to all

The patriotic symbol of the American dream has numerous times dissented from the ruling political
powers. Steve Rodgers lives the life of a patriot through and through, but it is important to
understand what it means to live patriotically. Captain America's patriotism doesn't hinge on blind
passion of one's country right or wrong or on the "us–versus–them" mentality produced during war
times. These types of patriotisms prevent the betterment of the world at large. These exclusionary
patriotisms neglect the dignity of other peoples and creates the illusion that anyone who thinks
differently belongs to the "them" party. Instead, Cap's patriotism lies of Stephen Nathanson's
philosophic "'moderate patriotism,' which balances devotion to one's country with ethical demands
to care for all" (White 147). Captain America embraces the shared humanity of people across
national borders. He would strongly support Nathanson's claim that "so long as devotion to one's
country do not lead to immoral actions, then patriotism can be laudable. When concern for the own
country blinds people to the legitimate needs and interests of other nations, then patriotism becomes
a vice" (White147). Captain America believes countries have the right to pursue its interest, but this
should be done with consideration of other nations and peoples and not at the cost of the countries
principles. Captain America's cosmopolitan patriotism puts him at odds with the government three

the story taking place in this cemetery setting. It is not easy to tell whether the man is getting

to the reader's imagination to decide what happened next. The font of the text appears to be melting

creepiness of the visual elements on the cover. The additional strange–looking characters in the

Captain America Character Analysis
In the 2011 film, Captain America: The First Avenger by Joe Johnston, a rejected military soldier
transforms into Captain America after taking a super–soldier serum to fight in the war against a
terrorist organization, and discovers that to be the hero everyone loves sacrifices have to be made.
Steve Rogers, the main character, symbolizes a young man who wants to fight for their country in
World War 2, but is too weak and small to be enlisted. The film reinvents the typical man by making
Steve into a super–soldier making him taller, stronger, and better looking, thereby encompassing the
physicality of masculinity. However, Steve ultimately rejects the modern conceptions of what it
means to be a man which creates a new type of masculinity that focuses more on emotions and
natural goodness, and is therefore somewhat feminized. Although the film appears to just be another
stereotypical representation of a male leading others to victory fearlessly, it also challenges the
hegemonic codes for masculinity while also presenting an idea of what a "real" man should be.
During the beginning of the film, Steve is asked "Do you wants to kill Nazi's?" by Dr. Erskine, this
question is a test to see if he is fit to take the super–soldier serum. Steve answers, "I don't like
bullies. I don't care where they come from." By not giving into the obvious violent answer, Steve is
challenging the masculine code that men need to be violent. This is what makes Captain America

In this text, Captain America can clearly be identified as the tragic hero, or protagonist. Aristotle
points out that a protagonist must have a tragic downfall in order to evoke a sense of pity from the
audience. Aristotle states, "The change of fortune presented must not be the spectacle of a virtuous
man brought from prosperity to adversity....The change of fortune should be not from bad to good,
but, reversely, from good to bad." Herald Woods points out, "Aristotle establishes the concept that
the emotion of pity stems not from a person becoming better but when a person receives undeserved
misfortune – and fear comes when the misfortune befalls the audience." In Captain America, Civil
War, a tragedy occurs when the general public decides that the Avengers should no longer provide

founded in 1939, officially named in 1961 for Marvel, former name Timely Comics, Atlas Comics.
Boasts a Spiderman, iron man, captain America, Thor, green giant, black widow. They appeared in
the movie. The main idea of the film is that Iron Man thinks that super heroes are too powerful for
the people to panic, so they have to be controlled by the government. In opposite, Captain America
believes that politics and justice are not equal. He disagreed with Iron Man. "Captain America: Civil
War" is cleverly constructed, distinctively stylized, and deserves to be called a comic that is not
understood. After watching comedies in class and combining what I learned from the class, I found
a lot of comedic elements from Professor's recommendation "Captain America: Civil War". People
usually regard it as an action movie and science fiction movie. However, in the movie, besides
fighting fragments, there are some scenes, which fit into three theories that we talked about in our
class: superiority, relief, incongruity. The enemy planned to revenge and wanted to break up the
avengers. He targeted Captain America. He found that Captain America could not stay out of the
winter soldier, who is the enemy of the government. He decided to make a national hero and an
enemy of the government "collusion" together to destroy

Captain America Societal Figure

  • 1. Captain America Societal Figure Captain America: American Societal Figure Ever since the early 20th century, superheroes have been created and written about for readers around the world. Although they are popular for their entertainment value, superheroes provide a deeper, more profound purpose for society. For example, they serve as role models, teach vital morals, and help people cope with real world issues. Possibly the best example of these purposes can be found in Captain America, as he represents the American people through his loyalty and dedication to the citizens of the United States of America. He was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby to represent a fighting figure for America in World War II. This would not only strengthen the American identity, but also garner the interest of Americans in joining the war effort. Captain America symbolizes patriotism as he relentlessly supports and fights for America. Captain America was created in early 1941 by writer Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby. Since Simon and Kirby strongly believed that the United States should intervene in World War II to fight Adolf Hitler, they created Captain America "as a vehicle to draw attention to the threat posed by Nazi Germany," (Schnakenberg). In the first comics that he starred in, Captain America was portrayed as a soldier who passionately fought on the American side of World War II. The soldier went to war for America and was loyal to the American cause, inspiring American citizens to join the war effort. His origin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants Captain Underpants is a series of semi–autobiographical children's novels by American author, Dav Pilkey. They follow the story of two fourth grade boys, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two best friends that are seen as the class clowns or troublemakers of their school, Jerome Horwitz Elementary. They are constantly pulling pranks including changing a sign that says "Please Wash Your Hands After Using The Toilet" into "Please Wash Your Hands In The Toilet". George and Harold write a comic series together about a superhero by the name of "Captain Underpants" who wears nothing but his underwear and a red cape. The pair accidentally hypnotizes their ill–natured principal, Mr. Krupp, into believing that he is Captain Underpants and fights crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The necessity of having power over children is an effort to maintain the status quo. There is a need to control the environment, especially that of elementary school in order to keep the peace and maintain some semblance of order. It's always stood that children are expected to look up to and respect all people in positions of authority. But, as stated in Gibron's article, teachers and administrators believe that because the children enjoy the books, and laugh at them, that they identify with the protagonists and their adventures, and they fear that children will try to recreate those scenarios. It becomes a "threat to the status quo" when children start experiencing that inner freedom that reading Captain Underpants gives children (Gibron). Although the books have been criticized for their "anti–authoritative tone", this isn't why the books were banned in Naugatuck, Connecticut. Don't forget – how does this tie into one of the readings we've done in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Individualism Versus Collectivism In Captain America On April 26th, 2018 it finally arrived. Every single marvel movie from Captain America: The First Avenger to Black Panther, have all hinted at the purple super–villain, Thanos, and he did not disappoint! Most of the heroes of the MCU appeared and I was surprised by some of their deaths in the movie. I thought this movie was spectacular and I believe it did not fall into some of the common issues Marvel movies typically have. Before you go see this movie, you should see some of the following MCU films before you see Infinity War, to see what each of the infinity stones and get a basic idea of the story so far: Captain America: The First Avenger Thor: The Dark World Thor: Ragnorok The Avengers Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2 Dr. Strange ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Josh Brolin did particularly well as the Mad Titan, Thanos. Cinematography: I am no expert at this, but I thought the cinematography for this film was good. Unlike previous movies, this one had the fights between the hero and the antagonist in varied, colorful set pieces, from the capital city of Wakanda, to the desolate landscape of Titan. Thanos: Apart from Killmonger, and Loki, most of the MCU's villains have been forgettable, since almost all of them want to destroy/rule the world because... they are evil. However, Thanos was portrayed as a sympathetic villain, he did not view himself as evil, but as a hero who is forced to do heinous deeds to save the universe from the fate that befell Titan. Post Credit Scene: Along with the obligatory Stan Lee cameo, fans of the Marvel Cinematic universe also expect to see a post credit scene hinting at another movie. This movie is no exception, though it seems as if the wait for this revelation was a bit longer than it usually was. As usual, the scene did not disappoint, and it foreshadowed the Captain Marvel movie, which from what I heard, will take place in the 1990s. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Captain Americ Civil War The film Captain America: Civil War was based off of a script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley, and it was adjusted to one of Marvel Comics' greatest crossover occasions: Mark Millar's Civil War. The movie's plot is tied into the aftermath of The Avengers: Age of Ultron. It could be argued that there isn't even a "main villain" in the story at all. The true enemies in this film are the protagonists; Tony and Steve. This is an incredibly personal story. One that focuses on the individual characters and their struggles. It's not about creating a "villain" for them to fight, its about these people creating "villains" in each other. The movie Captain America: Civil War begins with James "Bucky" Barnes in 1991 where he is dispatched ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of there being a force of good versus evil is being replaced with "politics" by which national security, power, and outside issues will direct how superhero's act in catastrophes. That in itself is a cause worth fighting for, regardless of what side you're on. It is a much more relatable struggle than what we're used to seeing, because it presents an interesting question that's been at the heart of controversy for many years this ideology is at the center of most debates about important issues. However, it's has still affected them all personally. And that's what this film is, a personal story. It's about Captain America is trying to save his friend. It's about Tony Stark trying to compensate for his guilty conscience. Ultimately through, it's a story about family. And how those closest to you, are also the ones who can hurt you the most. This is why the final fight was so brutal, not just visually but emotionally too. It's not like they were forced to fight, they chose to. They both make valid points and both have their fair share of criticisms. But it's a conflict that exists in the real world nonetheless, so when you hear superhero's having a similar arguments then the audience becomes more invested in the outcome of the story. And the beauty of the outcome, is that there wasn't really a definitive "winning" side. By the end of the film, they still disagree with one another, they're ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Captain Americ The First Avenger Essay The movie, "Captain America: The First Avenger," involves two posthuman characters, which Marvel Comics created. Captain America is a super hero, who is known as the world's first super soldier and many humans look up to him all over the planet. Red Skull is a super villain and is known to create havoc and terror in the lives of humans. Post humans can challenge the idea of community in several ways, but one factor that tends to stay the same, relating to posthumans, is that humans can easily be persuaded to follow in the footsteps of someone they believe is superior to them, such as Captain America or Red Skull. To begin, a doctor, named Dr. Erskine, from New York, New York created Captain America in 1941. This was a time when Americans were very proud of their nation and centered everything around World War II. The community was mostly anti–German, since Germany was one of the three countries America was battling during World War II. Captain America, who was known as Steve Rogers before he transformed over, was a scrawny boy who failed to meet the requirements to join the military. Eager to join, Steve Rogers volunteered himself for an operation that Dr. Erskine planned to conduct, which would alter his physique to that of a super human. After ingesting the "Super Soldier Serum," Steve Rogers transformed into Captain America. His muscles and reflexes were greatly enhanced, as well as his height and frame. • 6. Similarities Between Beowulf And Captain America Superhero's: Beowulf and Captain American The novel Beowulf, A New Translation with an Introduction. by Burton Raffel, is an epic tale of good vs evil. Beowulf is the idealistic hero of the Middle Ages based on his generosity, strength, and courage. He puts his life on the line for an entire kingdom by protecting his people and proves his worthiness of a superior warrior. He is continually recognized for his strength and courage. Beowulf is not so different from modern day superheroes such as Captain America in the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. Captain America defeats evil with his mighty shield and protects the people through his generosity to protect Earth, his strength, and courage. The protagonist of both the novel and movie share commonalities of a superhero. Heroes are introduced to people early on in life usually as fictional characters, but as children grow older their perceptions of hero's change. The characteristics of a hero are usually based around the ideas of a society or culture. In the epic Beowulf, the main character is thought of as a hero. Beowulf, a pagan warrior and the main character of the epic, shows certain characteristics such as generosity, strength, and courage, which portray him as a hero. Beowulf is faced with three forces to fight, Grendel, a monster, Grendel's mother, and the dragon. Beowulf hears about the troubles that the Danes are having with some evil monster named Grendel. It's not even certain that his name is Captain Nemo, Nemo in Latin means no one Meaning that he wants them to call him captain no one. It appears that throughout the book Captain Nemo isn't telling all the facts about himself as Verne wants us to be curious about Captain Nemo's past. The only information that Captain Nemo gives us about himself is that he wanted to leave society. We realize this when he says I am not what you call a civilized being! I have broken with society for reasons which I alone have the right to appreciate. So I do not obey its rules, and I ask you never to invoke them in my presence again! But while the Nautilus is attacked by a bunch of squid, Nemo does his best to fend them off. He even puts his life on the line to save Ned Land, but he cannot prevent one of his own crew members from being killed. After that He breaks down and cries. That part in the book really shows us that Nemo is capable of caring for the new people, it shows us that under the crusty exterior Captain Nemo is a real softie. His serious bitterness is quite off–putting at the beginning of the book. It makes you wonder what had to have happened to make him the way that he is. It may have been due to the fact that his wife and children got killed, it may have been because of untold reasons, his childhood, bad experiences with life itself, or a job failure. Either way it shows us that we, as humans can change just by spending time and investing in people. While reading 20,000 leagues under the sea I found myself wondering about how nice it would be to just go somewhere no one has been before and start again. Maybe Nemo was just tired of his everyday life where there were rules and expectations. He might have felt like there was nothing to stay for so he left to see the unknown depths of the ocean. I believe that its human nature to be curious of what we are unsure of. Captain Nemo seemed like a person that pushes his, and everybody else's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here at Rosary, the biggest tradition involves the students putting on a huge show (Red and Gold) to build sisterhood, leadership, and a little bit of competition. Through Red and Gold, a show student run, we are all able to showcase our talents. Girls are hand selected based on their talents to be one of 100 captains. From there, these girls are put in charge of their classmates and are placed either on the Red or Gold team. Through months of preparation and practice, the captains teach or assist their classmates with their specific dances, drills, lines, songs, sets, publicity, costumes, and or tech. As a singer, being a choral captain was always one of my dreams. Everybody talked about Red and Gold for months. Students could not wait until the last 45 minutes of the day where all the students put down their books and focused on Red and Gold. Finally, the day we were told who got what captain spot. It was the last class of the day. I was sitting in my French Class, shaking from nerves. I could barely breath as they started to go through the categories. • 12. Character Analysis Of Captain Nemo Character Analysis Captain Nemo is remembered as one of the greatest anti–heroes in all of science fiction. The commander of the Nautilus is brilliantly mysterious, and a sinister character who still shows signs of sorrow. He seems to be at war with humanity, yet gives back to the poor. The name Nemo means "no one" in latin, which only increases the uncertainty surrounding the captain. Captain Nemo first describes himself by saying ""I am not what you call a civilised man! I [am] done with society entirely, for reasons which I alone have the right of appreciating. I do not... obey its laws, and I desire you never to allude to them before me again!" (Verne, 57). The outright anger displayed by Nemo alludes to his hatred of society, and sheds light on the reasoning of his self imposed exile. Nemo's efforts to separate himself and his men from society is shown in the burial process for his dead crew members. Instead of burying his men on land, Nemo buries them in a massive underwater burial, to keep them safe from "sharks and men" (Verne, 150). Out of respect toward the bodies and in an almost , Nemo believes it is just as important to keep the dead bodies out of the reach of humans as it is to prevent them from being eaten by sharks. Captains Of Industry Essay In the late 1800s and early 1900s, during the climax of the American Industrial Revolution, there was a small group of men who owned the major businesses and were leaders of their industries. They owned factories, railroads, banks, and even created company towns for the sole purpose of housing their workers. Due to the efforts of these few men, the U.S. economy became the envy of the world, and America became a leading world power. They provided the public with products that were in high demand for reasonable prices, and opened their markets to countries overseas. Rockefeller were, in fact, Captains of Industry because they employed millions and created new ways of doing business. Before all these industrialists can along, America was just another country that had little significance to the world. If it was not for them, we as a nation would not be where we are today. The industrialists prospered mainly due to their wit, and the many innovations that they brought to their various fields of business. They created monopolies because they were the most effective forms of enterprise, and there were no laws that prohibited or restricted their use. As John D. Rockefeller himself said, "I believe in the spirit of combination and cooperation when properly conducted .It helps to reduce waste, and waste is a dissipation of power."(Danzer 424) Critics say that these men ruthlessly took over their fields of business, and "did not play fair". What's wrong with striving for success? What's wrong with being efficient? What's wrong with making a product that no one can equal? What's wrong with besting your competitors? Nothing. Upon the initial reading of this poem, one may perceive the poem to be about a loyal captain who leads his crew on a treacherous, but successful, voyage which ends in devastation. If interpreted literally this is the poem's only meaning, but for those who look further there is an underlying story behind the words of Whitman. Whitman uses multiple literary elements throughout this poem in order to unmask the story of Abraham Lincoln's journey and ultimate death as a result of the Civil War and his fight to end slavery. The speaker states, "Rise up – for you the flag is flung– for you the bugle trills" (line 10). This is interpreted as the ending of the war due to the patriotic symbolism of the flag which stands for freedom and also victory. Within this stanza, the importance of the captain is now extended from just the speaker to all those who await the ship's arrival. This is demonstrated as the speaker states, "For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning" (lines 11–12). The joyful tone of the stanza ceases towards the end as an unexpected downfall of emotions begins. Whitman uses repetition in lines 15 and 16 when he states "It is some dream that on the deck, / You've fallen cold and dead" (lines 15–16). This serves as a disturbing reminder that the figure which was most significant to the entire situation is no longer alive. The depressing realization of the captain's death is evident and seen most within the last stanza as the tone changes from that of triumph and elation to heartbreak and grief. This is shown through Whitman's use of imagery as the speaker states, "My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, / My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will" (lines 17–18). This provides a detailed description of the lifeless captain as he lies on the deck. Captain America's patriotism doesn't hinge on blind passion of one's country right or wrong or on the "us–versus–them" mentality produced during war times. These types of patriotisms prevent the betterment of the world at large. These exclusionary patriotisms neglect the dignity of other peoples and creates the illusion that anyone who thinks differently belongs to the "them" party. Captain America embraces the shared humanity of people across national borders. He would strongly support Nathanson's claim that "so long as devotion to one's country do not lead to immoral actions, then patriotism can be laudable. When concern for the own country blinds people to the legitimate needs and interests of other nations, then patriotism becomes a vice" (White147). Captain America believes countries have the right to pursue its interest, but this should be done with consideration of other nations and peoples and not at the cost of the countries principles. Captain America Character Analysis In the 2011 film, Captain America: The First Avenger by Joe Johnston, a rejected military soldier transforms into Captain America after taking a super–soldier serum to fight in the war against a terrorist organization, and discovers that to be the hero everyone loves sacrifices have to be made. Steve Rogers, the main character, symbolizes a young man who wants to fight for their country in World War 2, but is too weak and small to be enlisted. The film reinvents the typical man by making Steve into a super–soldier making him taller, stronger, and better looking, thereby encompassing the physicality of masculinity. However, Steve ultimately rejects the modern conceptions of what it means to be a man which creates a new type of masculinity that focuses more on emotions and natural goodness, and is therefore somewhat feminized. Although the film appears to just be another stereotypical representation of a male leading others to victory fearlessly, it also challenges the hegemonic codes for masculinity while also presenting an idea of what a "real" man should be. During the beginning of the film, Steve is asked "Do you wants to kill Nazi's?" by Dr. Erskine, this question is a test to see if he is fit to take the super–soldier serum. Steve answers, "I don't like bullies. I don't care where they come from." By not giving into the obvious violent answer, Steve is challenging the masculine code that men need to be violent.
