A NOTE FROM PASTOR JOEY
Giving gifts is something we learn to do at an early age.  My poor mother
suffered through the endless trivets and potholders, crooked bookends and
other mangled artifacts I created as gifts for her over the years.  As an act of
respect she gave many of them back to me when I married. However, now
I think perhaps it was a modest form of revenge.
Be it the first valentine to the first real expensive graduation or birthday
gift, it seems we all enjoy giving.  Giving is an outward expression of what
we feel or think.  A personal way of saying we care.  Be it a relative, friend,
acquaintance, charity or institution we hold in esteem, we give out of
respect for and love of persons and things we hold dear.
In the United Methodist Church when folks become part of a local
congregation, one of the questions asked is, “Will you be loyal to this
congregation and support it with your prayers, presence, gifts, and
service?”  Though the term gifts is an explicit reference to one contributing
financially, prayers, presence and service are each gifts and after a fashion
bless the mission and ministry of any local church.  The money we give, be
it one dollar or a million, must be an individual commitment between
ourselves and God.  However, we miss the point if we throw our wallets
and not our lives into the ministry of Christ.  For each of us has gifts to
share which brings measure and meaning to the work of God.
We give not because we have received, because for the most part it is
difficult to fathom what God has given us.  Hebrews 9:11-14 is a difficult
piece of biblical territory.  In these brief verses the sum of salvation is tied
to sacrificial giving of Jesus.  In words just as plain but just as deliberate the
affirmation found on page 885 of our Hymnal states, “We believe in Jesus
Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of God’s unfailing grace, the
ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and
death.”  So we give as we might, as we are able, as we are called so blessed
to do, but between the words in the Bible and those in the affirmation, and
what is written in our hearts; the wealth of Bill Gates couldn’t cover the
margin between what we give and what we have received.
Your Friend and Pastor,
Joey

HIGHLIGHTS OF WORSHIP
October 2nd - Today was World Communion Sunday. Norman Kelsey and Phillip Mottaz returned as

shared a message based on 2 Timothy titled “Spiritual Security.” Communion was served today at 8:15
AM & 10:30 AM worship services.

God and praising him. Pastor Joey’s sermon, “Act In Faith,” was based on Psalm 66:1-12.
October 16th - Today was Laity Sunday where we had various members of our congregation lead all the
aspects of worship. Thanks to John Kent for facilitating. We are also grateful to the following people for
taking part in Laity Sunday: Doug Eboch, Rachel Mottaz, Bill Varney, Sherri Perry, Charles Minetree,
Mike Gillis, Todd Murata, Norman Kelsey, Phil Roche, Doug Eboch. Special music by Libeck Kadu &
Shaun Vieten! The sermon was shared by Patty Kelsey, “Disciples Called To Action,” based on Matthew
22:37-39. Everyone received a pom pom and Patty led the congregation in a pep rally for all of their good
works in loving God and loving people. Lunch was hosted by Pastor Joey & Sue in the Social Hall.
October 17th - We hosted our North District - San Fernando Valley Mission Area #3 Charge Conference
in our Main Sanctuary. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Jim Powell, was on hand to lead us through the

Fellowship was hosted by Genelita and Caesar Ancheta (Tea Elle C Cafe).
October 23rd - Francis Nyaforh shared a mission moment about his non profit organization, Kids for
Joy - Entertainers for Education. Pastor Joey’s sermon was based on 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5 and was titled,
“The Power of Focus.”

E-WASTE
The longer we are “connected” the more E-WASTE we seem to accumulate. The term "e-waste" is
applied to consumer electronic equipment that is no longer wanted. E-waste can include computers,
printers, televisions, VCRs, cell phones, fax machines, stereos, and electronic games. Electronics may
contain lead, copper, and other heavy metals or potentially toxic substances. It must be SAFELY
disposed of - an internet search reveals many location here in the Valley. Additionally a center is located
at Gelsons (Riverside & Laurel Canyon) - 11am to 2pm the fourth Saturday of most months. Contact Ken
Ellis if you need assistance preparing that old computer for disposal. (Hard drives need to be disabled to
be certain old data is no longer available).

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
If you didn’t attend the “Entertainers for Education” concert featuring our
own Francis Nyaforh on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5, you missed something
very special. Among the songs that Francis, who performs as Jaway, and
his band performed were “Children of the World”, “Liberia”, and my
favorite, “When Will We Learn”. Not only were we entertained by live
music but refreshments, including homemade enchiladas, were served.
The program was a fund-raiser for his Kids for Joy charity. It is Francis’ goal to raise $2,500 to provide
backpacks filled with school supplies for at least 85 students at the Carolyn A. Miller School in
Paynesville, Liberia. The estimated cost is about $30 each backpack and supplies.
There is still time for you to contribute to this cause. You can donate via the kidsforjoy.org website or
by writing a check made out to Kids for Joy, which is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity, EIN #47-1631621.
You can give the check to Francis or mail it to Kids for Joy, 5235 Kester Avenue, Suite 108, Sherman
Oaks, CA 91411.

SOCIAL HALL

The United Methodist Women have been stitching,
painting, gluing, baking, and canning all year to
create another wonderful afternoon of shopping
and fellowship.
This year, there will not be the traditional BBQ
beef sandwich lunch. The event is only two hours.
All proceeds from this event go toward assisting
several mission projects: The David & Margaret
Home for girls; The Methodist Hospital in
Arcadia; New Entra Casa; and Toberman
Neighborhood Center in San Pedro.

Come and delight in our baked goods, homemade
jams and jellies, handmade holiday decorations
and gifts and, of course, the "Second Time Around
Table."
The UMW are asking for donations for the
second-time-around table. All gently used items
please. Assistance is also needed with set-up for the
boutique. On Monday, November 7th at 9:30 am,
the ladies will be cooking in the social hall kitchen
and setting up tables on Friday, November 11th at
9:30 am in the Social Hall. Please let Kathi Ellis
know if you can help.
Please mark your calendars and support the
mission work of The United Methodist Women!
Discovery Arts have found that children who are in
the hospital really enjoy playing dress up.
Halloween costumes are a perfect way for them to
rise above their illness to become a Pretty Pretty
Princess or their favorite Superhero.
Our COMMUNITY DAY CHALLENGE is to
add to the joy of dress up with costumes and
accessories that will be given to children that
Discovery Arts visits, along with the Bedside
Adventure Kits! Post Halloween means SALES on
costumes! If you are able to pick one up, the kids
will love it!
If the cost of a discounted costume is still too high,
please donate a share towards the $325 already
purchased for themed accessories and craft
packages purchased by Missions. $5, $10, $20
would be so appreciated!
Due to health concerns we can only accept new
costumes. Consider purchasing a few costumes, on
sale, after Halloween. Please drop off costumes in
the church office. Thank you so much!

NHIFP Guide to Helping the Homeless and
Improving Our Neighborhood
Things you should do when encountering a
homeless person:
Refer them to the North Hollywood Interfaith
Food Pantry, Mondays and Fridays, 8:00am -
1:00pm, 4390 Colfax Avenue, Studio City
Refer them to Hope of Valley: Laurie Craft,
Central Lutheran Church, 6425 Tyrone Avenue,
Van Nuys, 818-804-5507. Provides mailing
address for the homeless Tuesday & Thursday.
Call a Mental Health Clinician at the Department
of Mental Health Hotline, 1-800-854-7771
Email LAHSA's Emergency Response Team,
lpolanco@lahsa.org or Call the Hotline at
213-225-6581 to bring services to a person or
encampment. Leave a description of the person/
encampment, location and your name and
number (only M/F 7:30am to 5pm, otherwise call
211 for 24-hr help).
Another Way You Can Help:
1.       Proposition HHH – Vote for this measure on
the November 8, 2016 ballot.  It will be one of the
last things on the ballot, so make sure you go all
the way to the end!  Proposition HHH is a bond
worth $1.2 billion that will enable the
development of enough housing with support
services for all of the folks who are currently
homeless in LA City. The funding will also provide
for some additional housing to be built for folks
who are at risk of homelessness.
2.       Proposition JJJ – Vote for this measure on
November 8, 2016.  NHIFP helped to get
Proposition JJJ (the Build Better LA Initiative)
onto the ballot. It will compel private developers
who are asking the City for special concessions
(the ability to put more apartments on a piece of
land than what the current zoning allows) to
provide some apartments that are affordable for
low income folks and to pay the construction
workers who are building the development a
decent wage.
GIVING TUESDAY
By Lynn Yoshizumi
On Tuesday, Nov. 29, United Methodists will once again come together by donating on-line to support the
work of Advance missionaries and projects on UMC Giving Tuesday. Last year, more than 770 Advance
missionaries and projects received 8,757 gifts through The Advance, our denomination’s designated giving
channel. The Advance = Advancing Hope in Christ’s Name.

The theme for UMC Giving Tuesday 2016 is “Give Light, Give Love, Give Life”. It is suggested that you
consider supporting a project that is working in an area you care most about. To select a project, go to
www.umcmission.org/givingtuesday. Select “The Advance”, next “Search for Project”. Under “Browse
Projects”, you will find 6 boxes: Category - such as water or social justice; Focus Area - such as poverty or
global health; Population - such as ethnic groups or victims of abuse; Region - such as Africa or North
America; UMCOR - such as disaster relief or refugee ministries; and Missionary - such as Gary Moon.
Once you have selected what you want, you can donate via credit card and indicate that you are part of
First United Methodist Church of North Hollywood.

The gifts should be made between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm Central Time. Usually Giving Tuesday has been
at the beginning of December but since it always follows Thanksgiving and Black Friday, this year it falls in
November. Don’t wait until December or you will be too late!
Henri Doble would like to share his subscription to Reader’s Digest with other members of the congregation.
There is a box in the Lounge containing recent issues of the monthly magazine. As you probably know, each
issue contains a wealth of information. While some of it involves current events, much of it is timeless. And
there are such regular features as “100-Word True Stories”, “Laughter, the Best Medicine”, “That’s
Outrageous!”, “Word Power” and “Humor in Uniform”. As the sign says “Please take one or more Reader's
Digest, read it, and pass it on.” There is no need to return it to the box. Thanks, Henri.
The 2016 UMW Reading Program report form must be submitted to Lynn Yoshizumi by Sunday, December
11th. If you need a copy of the form, there are some in a plastic folder on the Reading Program shelf in the
Library or see Lynn. In order to count as a reader and be eligible for a certificate, you need to read at least 1
book from each of the 5 categories. If you have read more than 1 book in each category but not 2 each, you
should carry over the extras until next year. The competition will be tough with so many churches now in our
district so we need as many readers as possible. Happy Reading in the final 6 weeks!

Reflections
Dr. Joey K. McDonald
Scholars tell us that Psalm 66 is composed of two separate compositions.  Verses 1-12 are
categorized as a hymn of praise, in which God’s acts of salvation are celebrated.  Verses
13-30 shift the focus to an individual psalm of thanksgiving, where God’s constancy to
prayer is confessed.
In some manner of movement the psalmist is inviting the reader to experience a sense of
awe.  One theologian explained this as “the gift of goose bumps.”  So in spiritual terms
what is it that gives us goose bumps?  I confess that as a worship leader ‘goose bump’
moments are quite rare.   This is primarily because while leading worship my primary
focus is to not get lost.  To remember to speak in complete sentences and to avoid stepping
on my tongue.
Yet goose bump moments will come, sometimes when least expected.  A stirring anthem.
A wonderful hymn which brings a moment of reflected spiritual clarity.  A bit like seeing a
sunrise or sunset, and though you have seen it before, you pause and say to yourself, “Oh
my how glorious, how did I miss that.”
In a world that at times presses us so flat we could slip under doors without ever opening
them, we need to remember things that give us goose bumps.  Whether this is a favorite
amusement ride; a favorite piece of music which stirs us heart and soul.  A view from a
mountain top, or pier.
About a year ago I was afforded the honor to preside over two memorials for persons who
had reached the age of one hundred and four.  Though they did not know one another
their lives shared thread.  Each loved their family, loved to dance and sing, had healthy
senses of humor, loved good food, and possessed good friends even at advanced age.  It
caused us to reflect on them with a sense of awe.  All of us have things which stir goose
bumps within us, we simply have to use our memory.
Reflections are part of the weekly bulletin inserts for worship. This writing is originally from October 9, 2016.
Dr. McDonald’s sermon, “Act In Faith” was based on Psalm 66:1-12.

  • 1. First United Methodist Church of North Hollywood GOOD NEWS e-mail: nohofumc@pacbell.net NOVEMBER 2016 facebook.com/nohofumc1 www.nohofumc.com IN THIS ISSUE: • 18th Annual Treelot • UMW Holiday Boutique • Community Day • Discovery Arts Take Two • Giving Tuesday A NOTE FROM PASTOR JOEY Giving gifts is something we learn to do at an early age.  My poor mother suffered through the endless trivets and potholders, crooked bookends and other mangled artifacts I created as gifts for her over the years.  As an act of respect she gave many of them back to me when I married. However, now I think perhaps it was a modest form of revenge. Be it the first valentine to the first real expensive graduation or birthday gift, it seems we all enjoy giving.  Giving is an outward expression of what we feel or think.  A personal way of saying we care.  Be it a relative, friend, acquaintance, charity or institution we hold in esteem, we give out of respect for and love of persons and things we hold dear. In the United Methodist Church when folks become part of a local congregation, one of the questions asked is, “Will you be loyal to this congregation and support it with your prayers, presence, gifts, and service?”  Though the term gifts is an explicit reference to one contributing financially, prayers, presence and service are each gifts and after a fashion bless the mission and ministry of any local church.  The money we give, be it one dollar or a million, must be an individual commitment between ourselves and God.  However, we miss the point if we throw our wallets and not our lives into the ministry of Christ.  For each of us has gifts to share which brings measure and meaning to the work of God. We give not because we have received, because for the most part it is difficult to fathom what God has given us.  Hebrews 9:11-14 is a difficult piece of biblical territory.  In these brief verses the sum of salvation is tied to sacrificial giving of Jesus.  In words just as plain but just as deliberate the affirmation found on page 885 of our Hymnal states, “We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of God’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.”  So we give as we might, as we are able, as we are called so blessed to do, but between the words in the Bible and those in the affirmation, and what is written in our hearts; the wealth of Bill Gates couldn’t cover the margin between what we give and what we have received. • 2. COME AND WORSHIP The following Bible passages will be the basis for the messages in November. Please take time each week to read the selected passages. November 6 Spiritual Residue Luke 20:27-38 November 13 Community Day November 20 A Prism Of Faith November 27 The Five Hour Spiritual Drink Romans 13:11-14 HIGHLIGHTS OF WORSHIP October 2nd - Today was World Communion Sunday. Norman Kelsey and Phillip Mottaz returned as Doctor Mottazstein & The Count Normula to share the spooky October Announcements! Pastor Joey shared a message based on 2 Timothy titled “Spiritual Security.” Communion was served today at 8:15 AM & 10:30 AM worship services. October 9th - Patty Kelsey shared a moment using Thank You cards and talking about being thankful to God and praising him. Pastor Joey’s sermon, “Act In Faith,” was based on Psalm 66:1-12. October 16th - Today was Laity Sunday where we had various members of our congregation lead all the aspects of worship. Thanks to John Kent for facilitating. We are also grateful to the following people for taking part in Laity Sunday: Doug Eboch, Rachel Mottaz, Bill Varney, Sherri Perry, Charles Minetree, Mike Gillis, Todd Murata, Norman Kelsey, Phil Roche, Doug Eboch. Special music by Libeck Kadu & Shaun Vieten! The sermon was shared by Patty Kelsey, “Disciples Called To Action,” based on Matthew 22:37-39. Everyone received a pom pom and Patty led the congregation in a pep rally for all of their good works in loving God and loving people. Lunch was hosted by Pastor Joey & Sue in the Social Hall. October 17th - We hosted our North District - San Fernando Valley Mission Area #3 Charge Conference in our Main Sanctuary. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Jim Powell, was on hand to lead us through the agenda. We hosted churches from Canoga Park, Hindi-Urdu, Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills. Fellowship was hosted by Genelita and Caesar Ancheta (Tea Elle C Cafe). October 23rd - Francis Nyaforh shared a mission moment about his non profit organization, Kids for Joy - Entertainers for Education. Pastor Joey’s sermon was based on 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5 and was titled, “The Power of Focus.” Jeremiah 23:1-6 E-WASTE The longer we are “connected” the more E-WASTE we seem to accumulate. The term "e-waste" is applied to consumer electronic equipment that is no longer wanted. E-waste can include computers, printers, televisions, VCRs, cell phones, fax machines, stereos, and electronic games. Electronics may contain lead, copper, and other heavy metals or potentially toxic substances. It must be SAFELY disposed of - an internet search reveals many location here in the Valley. Additionally a center is located at Gelsons (Riverside & Laurel Canyon) - 11am to 2pm the fourth Saturday of most months. Contact Ken Ellis if you need assistance preparing that old computer for disposal. (Hard drives need to be disabled to be certain old data is no longer available).
  • 3. Sunday, November 13th 10:30 AM Worship Service Reception to follow in the Social Hall Please make time to put together a Discovery Arts Bedside Adventure Kit after the church service! COMMUNITY DAY Celebrating our Community at NoHo FUMC! Boy Scout Troop 18, Girl Scouts of America, Evergreen Music Conservatory, Synchronicity Hand Bell Choir and The Wesley School The UMW Holiday Boutique will be open during the reception in the Social Hall following worship. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! If you didn’t attend the “Entertainers for Education” concert featuring our own Francis Nyaforh on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5, you missed something very special. Among the songs that Francis, who performs as Jaway, and his band performed were “Children of the World”, “Liberia”, and my favorite, “When Will We Learn”. Not only were we entertained by live music but refreshments, including homemade enchiladas, were served. The program was a fund-raiser for his Kids for Joy charity. It is Francis’ goal to raise $2,500 to provide backpacks filled with school supplies for at least 85 students at the Carolyn A. Miller School in Paynesville, Liberia. The estimated cost is about $30 each backpack and supplies. There is still time for you to contribute to this cause. You can donate via the kidsforjoy.org website or by writing a check made out to Kids for Joy, which is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity, EIN #47-1631621. You can give the check to Francis or mail it to Kids for Joy, 5235 Kester Avenue, Suite 108, Sherman Oaks, CA 91411.

  • 5. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM SOCIAL HALL   The United Methodist Women have been stitching, painting, gluing, baking, and canning all year to create another wonderful afternoon of shopping and fellowship. This year, there will not be the traditional BBQ beef sandwich lunch. The event is only two hours. All proceeds from this event go toward assisting several mission projects: The David & Margaret Home for girls; The Methodist Hospital in Arcadia; New Entra Casa; and Toberman Neighborhood Center in San Pedro.   Come and delight in our baked goods, homemade jams and jellies, handmade holiday decorations and gifts and, of course, the "Second Time Around Table."  The UMW are asking for donations for the second-time-around table. All gently used items please. Assistance is also needed with set-up for the boutique. On Monday, November 7th at 9:30 am, the ladies will be cooking in the social hall kitchen and setting up tables on Friday, November 11th at 9:30 am in the Social Hall. Please let Kathi Ellis know if you can help. Please mark your calendars and support the mission work of The United Methodist Women! Discovery Arts have found that children who are in the hospital really enjoy playing dress up. Halloween costumes are a perfect way for them to rise above their illness to become a Pretty Pretty Princess or their favorite Superhero. Our COMMUNITY DAY CHALLENGE is to add to the joy of dress up with costumes and accessories that will be given to children that Discovery Arts visits, along with the Bedside Adventure Kits! Post Halloween means SALES on costumes! If you are able to pick one up, the kids will love it! If the cost of a discounted costume is still too high, please donate a share towards the $325 already purchased for themed accessories and craft packages purchased by Missions. $5, $10, $20 would be so appreciated! Due to health concerns we can only accept new costumes. Consider purchasing a few costumes, on sale, after Halloween. Please drop off costumes in the church office. Thank you so much! Costume Drive for Discovery Arts!

Leave a description of the person/ encampment, location and your name and number (only M/F 7:30am to 5pm, otherwise call 211 for 24-hr help). Another Way You Can Help: 1.       Proposition HHH – Vote for this measure on the November 8, 2016 ballot.  It will be one of the last things on the ballot, so make sure you go all the way to the end!  Proposition HHH is a bond worth $1.2 billion that will enable the development of enough housing with support services for all of the folks who are currently homeless in LA City. The funding will also provide for some additional housing to be built for folks who are at risk of homelessness.  2.       Proposition JJJ – Vote for this measure on November 8, 2016.  NHIFP helped to get Proposition JJJ (the Build Better LA Initiative) onto the ballot. It will compel private developers who are asking the City for special concessions (the ability to put more apartments on a piece of land than what the current zoning allows) to provide some apartments that are affordable for low income folks and to pay the construction workers who are building the development a decent wage.
  • 8. GIVING TUESDAY By Lynn Yoshizumi On Tuesday, Nov. 29, United Methodists will once again come together by donating on-line to support the work of Advance missionaries and projects on UMC Giving Tuesday. Last year, more than 770 Advance missionaries and projects received 8,757 gifts through The Advance, our denomination’s designated giving channel. The Advance = Advancing Hope in Christ’s Name.   The theme for UMC Giving Tuesday 2016 is “Give Light, Give Love, Give Life”. It is suggested that you consider supporting a project that is working in an area you care most about. To select a project, go to www.umcmission.org/givingtuesday. Select “The Advance”, next “Search for Project”. Under “Browse Projects”, you will find 6 boxes: Category - such as water or social justice; Focus Area - such as poverty or global health; Population - such as ethnic groups or victims of abuse; Region - such as Africa or North America; UMCOR - such as disaster relief or refugee ministries; and Missionary - such as Gary Moon. Once you have selected what you want, you can donate via credit card and indicate that you are part of First United Methodist Church of North Hollywood.   The gifts should be made between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm Central Time. Usually Giving Tuesday has been at the beginning of December but since it always follows Thanksgiving and Black Friday, this year it falls in November. Don’t wait until December or you will be too late! Henri Doble would like to share his subscription to Reader’s Digest with other members of the congregation. There is a box in the Lounge containing recent issues of the monthly magazine. As you probably know, each issue contains a wealth of information. While some of it involves current events, much of it is timeless. And there are such regular features as “100-Word True Stories”, “Laughter, the Best Medicine”, “That’s Outrageous!”, “Word Power” and “Humor in Uniform”. As the sign says “Please take one or more Reader's Digest, read it, and pass it on.” There is no need to return it to the box. Thanks, Henri. The 2016 UMW Reading Program report form must be submitted to Lynn Yoshizumi by Sunday, December 11th. If you need a copy of the form, there are some in a plastic folder on the Reading Program shelf in the Library or see Lynn. In order to count as a reader and be eligible for a certificate, you need to read at least 1 book from each of the 5 categories. If you have read more than 1 book in each category but not 2 each, you should carry over the extras until next year. The competition will be tough with so many churches now in our district so we need as many readers as possible. Happy Reading in the final 6 weeks!

  • 10. Reflections Dr. Joey K. McDonald Scholars tell us that Psalm 66 is composed of two separate compositions.  Verses 1-12 are categorized as a hymn of praise, in which God’s acts of salvation are celebrated.  Verses 13-30 shift the focus to an individual psalm of thanksgiving, where God’s constancy to prayer is confessed. In some manner of movement the psalmist is inviting the reader to experience a sense of awe.  One theologian explained this as “the gift of goose bumps.”  So in spiritual terms what is it that gives us goose bumps?  I confess that as a worship leader ‘goose bump’ moments are quite rare.   This is primarily because while leading worship my primary focus is to not get lost.  To remember to speak in complete sentences and to avoid stepping on my tongue. Yet goose bump moments will come, sometimes when least expected.  A stirring anthem. A wonderful hymn which brings a moment of reflected spiritual clarity.  A bit like seeing a sunrise or sunset, and though you have seen it before, you pause and say to yourself, “Oh my how glorious, how did I miss that.” In a world that at times presses us so flat we could slip under doors without ever opening them, we need to remember things that give us goose bumps.  Whether this is a favorite amusement ride; a favorite piece of music which stirs us heart and soul.  A view from a mountain top, or pier. About a year ago I was afforded the honor to preside over two memorials for persons who had reached the age of one hundred and four.  Though they did not know one another their lives shared thread.  Each loved their family, loved to dance and sing, had healthy senses of humor, loved good food, and possessed good friends even at advanced age.  It caused us to reflect on them with a sense of awe.  All of us have things which stir goose bumps within us, we simply have to use our memory. Reflections are part of the weekly bulletin inserts for worship. This writing is originally from October 9, 2016. Dr. McDonald’s sermon, “Act In Faith” was based on Psalm 66:1-12.
