• Say your first and last name slowly and clearly.

• Tell why you are calling.
• I’m calling about the administrative assistant position that was
posted on your website on April 20th.
• I’m calling about the administrative assistant position you have
open. Carl Smith recommended I call.

3. Plan your call: Your qualifications
• Give a brief explanation of your qualifications.
• I have five years experience as an administrative assistant in a
large firm. I am efficient, reliable and highly organized. I am an
expert in Microsoft Office and type 65 words per minute.
• I have a MSc in Petroleum Engineering and 20 years experience
as a chemical engineer and researcher. I have developed
processes that have saved my company hundreds of thousands of
dollars. I am a highly effective team leader, an innovative scientist
and a skilled presenter.
• I have seven years experience as a nanny. I also have certification
in childhood development from Miramar College. I am caring,
patient, and reliable.

4. Plan your call: Saying good-bye
• Again, my name is Susan Smith. (if your name is difficult
for English speakers, spell it slowly)
• You can reach me anytime at 339-242-3838. Again that
number is 339-242-3838. I will call again if you are unable
to reach me.

5. Before you make the call
• Find a quiet place to make your calls.
• Sit up in a chair and at a table.
• Have good posture and a smile.
• Practice saying your script before you make the
call.
• Use your script when you call.
