Calisthenics
The street is your gym now
Whatis
calisthenics??
Calisthenics is a system of physical
exercises with one's own body
weight. In this system, interest is in
the movements of large muscle
groups. The word comes from the
Greek kallos (beauty) and sthenos
(fortress). The objective is the
acquisition of strength and beauty in
the exercise. It is the beauty that the
body has in motion.

History
Calisthenics was first used in Ancient
Greece (around 1000 years BC).
Chances are that if you grew up in
Sparta, you would have been trained
in calisthenics by some of the fiercest
warriors the world has ever known.
Calisthenics has a rich history as a
training method for preparing
soldiers for combat. At the other side
of the world, Shaolin monks have
been training using mostly only their
body weight for centuries. This
combined with their mental training
have given them a reputation for
being able to achieve superhuman
feats.

Where can you do it?
You can do calisthenics everywhere you
want, in your house, in the middle of the
Street, in a bar park, in the gym,….. It’s true
that for some exercises like pull ups or
muscle ups you’ll need a high bar but to do
the rest of exericses you can stay in your
home and use two chairs, that’s all you’ll
need

Pros and Cons of Calisthenics
• Pros
• You don’t need to buy any type of
equipment
• You don’t have to pay a fee
• You don’t need more tan an hour to do
a complete workout because in this
sport you exercise more than one
muscle group with each exercise you do
• If you don’t want to go to a bar park you
can stay at home and do your workout

• Cons
• If you prefer to do this outside, the
rain is a big problem
