It wasn’t too long ago that I wondered the same
thing. I was receiving emails from friends and
associates inviting me to ‘connect’ on LinkedIn. I
knew it was something to do with social media but
I wasn’t sure of anything further. The last thing I
needed was another social
media site to master! Who has the
time? Not me… I thought.
Fast-forward six years: I have just
celebrated my 5th year in business as
an Independent LinkedIn Specialist
and love what I do! LinkedIn
celebrated its 13th year in business in
May this year. In short, it has become
the largest professional networking
site on the internet. And, no, it’s
not ‘Facebook for professionals!’ In
fact, here’s how I distinguish the two sites: Facebook is the
cocktail party – LinkedIn is the business conference.
And there you have it. On LinkedIn, you will develop
business relationships that will either lead you to business
or become your business later. You can also use LinkedIn to
prospect, promote, create alliances, advertise jobs, create
a Company Page, and more. Oh, it has also become the
#1 resource for the HR industry worldwide. If you are a
professional, you need to have a presence on LinkedIn.
Does everyone need to network? You bet!
LinkedIn offers an excellent way to build
online business relationships to strengthen
your expertise, brand, and career. Those
invitations you’re receiving are from people
you know who are building their network.
So dive in and create an account with your
name, email, and a password. Take your
time building your profile and network. Visit
