Rahul and Mamta are the two main members of staff in a company.
Rahul is the the Big Boss and spends most of his time out seeing clients
and looking for new business. He relies heavily on Mamta and her small
team in the office to carry out the admin and the operations of the
business.
Rahul knows the world very well and is good at getting new business, so
good that as a result of his own efforts and the recommendations of
past customers, the business is growing substantially. Rahul knows that
the staff needs to grow in order to cope efficiently but is not sure how to
organise the change and does not find it easy to talk to his own staff.
That’s why he lets Mamta organise everything.
Rahul has met a project manager in another company who would like to
make a move, but he is anxious about how Mamta will react. She has
been an excellent manager and he does not want to upset her by
bringing in someone else at the same level. After all, she enjoys the
management of the projects and it has very much been her own domain
for the last 5 years. She might leave if she felt her position was being
undermined. He is also thinking of talking to the son of a friend who is
ambitious and might be interested in training on the job with him to take
a share in getting new business.
Rahul has decided he needs to talk to Mamta about the situation and
find out how she feels. He has called her to his office.

pride in her efficiency. She had very little experience when she joined
the company 5 years ago and has watched it grow, learning a lot along
the way. However, just lately, Mamta has begun to lose interest a little
and the stress of the very much increased workload has begun to tell.
She has four people working for her but it is her own role which is now
overloaded. Besides, she has been doing the same job now for 5 years
and she would be interested in doing something different. She would
like to help Rahul find new business, but she knows he enjoys being the
kingpin and feels he might not want to share that role with anyone else
or feel he has the time to teach her. She knows he relies on her in her
present role and doesn’t want to rock the boat. Supposing she isn’t any
good at getting new business, anyway?
Mamta is meeting Rahul this morning. She doesn’t know why he has
