March 1987-February 1993 Responsible for bedside counseling of the breastfeeding
postpartum patient. Postpartum rounds done on each postpartum area (5) and each nursery
(5). Statistics collected and compile for monthly percentages. Monitors the in-house image of
breastfeeding. Elimination of the use of all materials in own practice which do not comply with
the WHO/UNICEF Code of Practice regarding commercial products. Teach prenatal
breastfeeding classes to low risk and high risk patients in New OB Clinic at Grady Hospital.
Coordinate follow-up telephone contact with a nursing mother to mother coordinator for
patients in Fulton and
DeKalb counties. Coordinate the volunteer breast-feeding counselor positions at the hospital.
Provide in services to new staff (nurses, nutritionist, respiratory therapist, occupational
therapist, etc). Teach breastfeeding counseling and skills to floor nurses and students
(nursing, medical and nutrition). Coordinates breastfeeding support group twice a month.
Chairperson of the hospital/community Breastfeeding Committee. Participates in the Georgia
Task Force for Breastfeeding. Conducts patient and staff surveys. Conducts breastfeeding
lectures for Morehouse and Emory medical students. Monthly lectures for pediatric and
OB/GYN interns and residents on nursery service. Lactation clinic on Friday mornings, which
consist of seeing mothers and babies with breastfeeding problems or potential problems with
pediatric residents. Lactation clinic Wednesday morning with Obstetric residents for maternal
breastfeeding problems. Provide information and materials and function as reference person
to obstetric and pediatric faculty and residents. Orientation, assistance and reference person
for Fulton County's breastfeeding peer counselors. Coordination of information, materials and
tour of breastfeeding project for interested professionals. Breastfeeding reference person for
state office of nutrition. Develop and conduct breastfeeding workshops throughout the
southeastern states as part of a HHS train the trainer lactation management team.
Administrative duties include:
Training and supervision of breastfeeding assistants. Coordination of week long
breastfeeding practicum which trains multidisciplinary teams of health care providers.
Technical advisor for Best Start Social Marketing Project. Coordinator for local Wellstart, San
