The budget proposes several changes to India's direct tax structure. For individuals, the tax rates and slabs remain unchanged but tax exemptions are introduced for senior citizens' investments. The short-term capital gains tax on securities is increased to 15%. For companies, there are no changes to tax rates but the dividend distribution tax and banking cash transaction tax are amended. Several deductions and exemptions are also introduced or rationalized for businesses.
