Budget cuts have affected schools across the United States since 2006. President Bush cut over $4 billion from education programs including those for disabled students and cultural programs. California proposed cutting over $4 billion from school budgets. These cuts resulted in the elimination of programs like arts, reading and those designed to help students succeed. Class sizes have increased and teaching positions have been cut as a result of the budget reductions. Communities are trying to raise additional funding through taxes while administrators manage the budget challenges.
