land.

like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,

- 4. BRYOPHYTES ETYMOLOGY • Bryophyte is derived from Greek word • ‘BRYON’ means ‘mosses’ • and • ‘Phyca’ means ‘plant’
- 5. • Habitat • They are found in humid and shady places. • Bryophytes are abundant in moist mountain forests of tropical and sub tropical region. • 9000 genera , 24000 species exist in universe. • Range • They Range from few mm to 30 cm or more in size
- 6. PLANT BODY • Plant body is thallus ( not differentiated into root, stem and leaf. • e.g Marchantia , Anthoceros • Sporophyte has 3 parts : foot , seta, capsule • The sporophyte of the bryophytes is generally called sporogonium.
- 8. REPRODUCTION OF BRYOPHYTES • Bryophytes reproduce by vegetative, sexual and asexual modes of reproduction. • The gametophyte reproduces sexually by formation of gametes whereas the sporophyte reproduces by the formation of spore therefore the mode of reproduction is sexual
- 9. TYPES OF REPRODUCTION •Vegetative reproduction •Asexual reproduction •Sexual reproduction
- 10. VEGETATIVE REPRODUCTION • A piece that breaks off a gametophyte and the lands in a suitable habitat will grow into a new gametophyte. • The breakage may be accidental such as animal, trampling or erosion leading to fragmentation of an existing bryophyte colony.
