2. The bridge rectifier is a type of full-wave
rectifier that uses four or more diodes
in a bridge circuit configuration to
convert alternating (AC) current to a
direct (DC) current.
3.
4. It is basically a full wave rectifier , but it does not need a
center tapped transformer. It has four diodes D1,D2,D3 &
D4 connected as a bridge.
The AC voltage to be rectified is applied to the primary
winding of the transformer.
During positive half cycle the diodes D1 & D3 are
forward biased whereas D2 & D4 are reverse biased .
Hence D1 and D3 will conduct and current flows through
the load resistor.
During negative half cycle the diodes D2 & D4 are
forward biased whereas D1 & D3 are reverse biased .
Hence D2 and D4 will conduct and current flows through
the load resistor.

7. The efficiency of the bridge rectifier is higher than
the efficiency of half wave rectifier.
The DC output signal of the bridge rectifier is
smoother than the output DC signal of a
half wave rectifier.
It has less ripple factor value
The circuit complexity is more , the voltage
regulations are good and the voltage across
the diode is high .

9. These welding rectifiers are also
used as an alternative to DC
welding generators and even
have an edge over DC welding
generator as there are no moving
parts in welding rectifier except
the cooling fan which ensures
almost nil maintenance cost,
besides its low initial cost as
compared to generator.
