Key Ideas
4. Decimals are compared in the same way as other numbers: by comparing the different
place values from left to right. To help in that, you can write the two numbers into the place
values tables on top of each other. Then compare the different place values in the two
numbers from left to right, starting from the largest place.

31. Comparing and arranging decimals are some of the
techniques to determine the value of the given decimals. Wen
you compare numbers, first look the number of digits in each
number. Then compare the place values of the numbers with
the same amount of digits.
Take Note!
33. Rounding off number is a
mathematical technique of adjusting
the digits of number to make the
number easier to use during
calculations.
Rounding off Number
34. Ways to round off decimal
number
1. Determine first the rounding
place and the digit to the right of
the rounding place.
Editor's Notes
These are the things that we need to remember
1. Align first the decimal points and the digits in their corresponding place values
2. Begin comparing the digits with the same place values from the left most digits.
3. Use the symbol of greater than (>), less than (<) and equal in comparing the digits in the same place values.
For our first example, Let us compare this two decimal numbers using place value chart.
Let us compare this two decimal numbers using place value chart.
And let us put our decimal number
And let us put our decimal number
And let us put our decimal number
Look and compare the ones place value. As you can see, they are both zero, so, let us proceed to the next place value.
And t
In the tenths place value, they are also the same, so let’s proceed to the next place value.
Number 5 is greater than 0, so we will use greater than (>)
Therefore, fifteen hundredths, is greater than, one hundred five thousandths
Let us compare this two decimal numbers using place value chart.
And let us put our decimal number
In ones place value they are both number 1, so, let us proceed to the next place value.
In tenths place value they are also both number 1, so, let us proceed to the next place value.
In hundredths place value , 2 is less than 4, so we use less than (<)
Therefore, 1 and 125 thousandths is less than 1 and 14 hundredts
Let us try these decimal number.
In ones place value they are both zero,
then let us proceed to tenths place., look! they are also the same number 8.
Meaning 80 hundredths, is equal to 80 hundredths
Let us proceed to the next topic which is Arranging of Numbers to the nearest tenths and whole number.
