Manufacturing of brass gate valve
• Brass gate valves are a type of valve designed to control
the flow of liquids (usually water) in plumbing and
industrial applications.
• They are called "gate" valves because they use a gate-
like mechanism to control the flow of fluid through a
passageway.
• Brass is a common material used in the construction of
these valves due to its corrosion resistance and
durability..

6. What Is Gravity Die Casting ?[3]
Gravity die casting is a manufacturing process used to produce high-quality metal
parts with complex shapes and relatively smooth surfaces.
It's a type of casting method that falls under the broader category of die casting
processes.
The key characteristics differentiating gravity die casting from other casting
methods are that
(1) only the force of gravity is used to introduce the casting metal into the mold
(2) a reusable ("permanent") metal mold is used. It is usually made of steel or cast
iron.

7. Step-by-Step Process of Gravity Die Casting [3]
Most gravity die casters do this manually. However, the process is quite similar for both manual
and automatic machines.
At first, heat the die and spray coating inside the cavity.
Then melt the metal and convey it through a ladle.
Note that if the casting machine is manual, then you have to pour the molten metal by hand.
After that, slowly pour the liquid metal into the cavity.
Then wait for it to solidify.
Next, take out the part after opening the die.
Finally, machine the part as necessary.

10. The Benefits and Drawbacks of GravityDie Casting.. [1][3]
The benefits of gravity die casting are:
Gravity die cast components have better density
than sand casting parts.
This process costs less than most other processes
like vacuum casting, squeeze casting, etc.
Gravity casting parts have less porosity and better
grain structure than sand casting parts.
For medium or small volume production, it is
cheaper than other methods.

Some of the drawbacks of gravity
die casting are:
Manual gravity die casting takes
more time than other casting
processes.
Automatic gravity die casting parts
are less precise than manual gravity
casting parts.
11. DEFECTS IN GATE VALVE [9]
11
Manufacturing of brass gate valve
1. Gas Porosity
This involves the formation of bubbles in the cast after cooling. You
will see gas porosities as round or oval structures on the body
Causes:
•Released hydrogen from molten metal alloys
•Involved gases in the metal alloy filling process
•Gases from mold releasing agents
Remedies:
•Ensure you sure a clean and dry metal alloy ingot.
•Use discernable die casting parameters, including injection speed.
•Select high-quality mold releasing agents and use a reasonable
amount.

DEFECTS IN GATE VALVE[9]
2. Shrinkage Porosity
Shrinkage porosity is formed during the cooling and solidification
process of casting, and metal alloys shrink upon cooling. Therefore,
there is a high possibility of this defect occurring without adequate
precautions.
Causes:
•Unreasonable design of the cooling system.
•Opening of mold too early.
•Using an extremely high pouring temperature.
Remedies:
•Redesign the running (gate) system to have risers that enable
continuous molten metal flow.
•Insert internal chills, cooling coils, or ribs to increase heat
dissipation.
13. 3. Inclusions
These are irregularly shaped holes inside the casting or on its surface. With inclusions, there are unwanted
particles of sand, material, dross, or deoxidation product in the metal casting.
Causes:
•Impurities from the metal due to improper purification or garbage pollution.
•Low furnace charge purity.
•Inclusion of too much graphite in mold release agents.
Remedies:
• Ensure that the furnace charge is pure.
• Proper purification of metal liquid with thorough removal of slags.
• Clean the die cavity and ladles properly.
• If mold release agents contain graphite, ensure even mixing and stirring.
