Travel is changing rapidly as more people travel globally each year, while governments want to check travelers more efficiently and travelers want a more efficient travel experience. Digital technologies are converging online and offline lives, with social networks growing significantly. Both travelers and governments face challenges to facilitate border passage, including ensuring national security and preventing identity fraud, while also providing comfort, speed and control over the process for the vast majority of regular travelers. New digital technologies may help balance these challenges through analysis of digital footprints, less repetitive data entry and enabling online dialogues.
