The Case of the Bad Google Review

Recently, the NYT exposed an online
                              merchant that used poor Google
Reviews to advance his website’s search
                                     engine optimization.
Due to large public outcry, Google
quickly introduced a change so that
                           merchants with bad reputations would
                                 lose rankings in its system.
We cannot reveal the details of our solution—the underlying signals, data
sources, and how we combined them to improve our rankings—beyond what
we’ve already said.We can say with reasonable confidence that being bad to
customers is bad for business on Google. - Amit Singhal, Google Fellow

                            Tumblr accidentally crashed
                             a critical database cluster.
                            This interruption in service
                            caused a huge problem for
                                      avid users.
                                 Tumblr responded
                            appropriately with posts on
                                their blog & Twitter,
                                addressing the issue.

Facebook & Twitter positively affect SEO

                            Bing and Google both confirmed
                             that links shared on Facebook
                               and Twitter will affect SEO
                                          ranking.
                              Google revealed that it uses
                              Author Authority to gage the
                               SEO ranking of sites, using
                            Twitter users’ “author quality” to
                             make the calculation. And Bing
                            has a similar measurement called
                                    “Social Authority”.

            Yelp check-in offers are live!

When someone checks into a business
on Yelp, they can now take advantage
                                      of check-in offers.
This new feature within the business

customers with a coupon or special.
It provides a measurable way to

Nissan CEO gives keynote for Le Web
During his keynote at the LeWeb
                               conference in Paris, Carlos Ghosn
explained that, “cars have stopped being
                              perceived as symbols of modernity.”
He stated that the electric car is the
breakthrough that will bring the motor
                                  vehicle into the modern age.
Ghosn also believes that the world needs
                           a mass-produceable, affordable and zero-
emission pure electric car that can help

He was quick to promote the Nissan
                             Leaf, the company’s compact battery
electric car that he says is already sold out
