Vineet Nayar took over as CEO of HCL Technologies in 2005. At the time, HCL was losing market share and falling behind competitors. Nayar initiated a major transformation called "Employees First, Customers Second" (EFCS). The key aspects of EFCS included radical transparency about company performance, reversing the traditional hierarchy to prioritize employees over management, and shifting responsibility and decision making to employees. Through EFCS, HCL was able to turn its performance around, growing revenue threefold within four years while also improving employee satisfaction and reducing attrition. EFCS positioned HCL as an innovator and thought leader in the industry.
