Editor's Notes
But before we get too far into the stories let's back up and remember that this year we are not going to just READ the Book of Mormon
we are going to meditate –Today's terminology would be called a "mindful moment
Let's read this reference in Joshua 1:8 The Lord is talking to this newly appointed prophet that has to follow MOSES, the greatest prophet that ever lived!!!
and THIS is the advice he gives him!! study the law(scriptures)
How is this going to help him?
He ahs to conquer cities; take bake their land of Inheritance—He needs battle instructions NOT stories of Adam, Eve, Noah etc.
When have studying the scriptures helped you prosperous and have good success?
DENTAL hygiene school scripture time 1st year vs 2nd year
The Lord goes into more detail about how he is going to be on Joshua's right hand and on his left, BUT this is what he requires of him
having a Mindful moment day and night with the scriptures.
THIS IS NEPHI TALKING he has just likened their situation to the Cof I
PROFIT AND LEARNING What do you think Nephi means by this?
LEt's turn to 1st Nephi 19:21
Do you ever think about how our church was started by someone that likened the sciprutes to himself James 1:5
JSH 1:123
My father was a master at liken EVERYTHING to the Gospel/scriptures (he was a seminary teacher)
3 tips on HOW to do it from the teacher's manual
Here's a reminder of Lehi and Sariah's family tree
THIS IS AFTER the SPLIT
Jacob has been talking to everyone at the Land of Nephi
I love the fact that Nephi is starting to turn things over to his younger brothers, he has no problem with them leading unlike HIS OLDER brothers that would not have their younger brother "rule over them"
Let's watch a sweet little3 minute video depicting Jacob teaching at the temple mount about the Savior with Nephi watching on with pride, remember THIS is who Nephi passes the torch to here in a few chapters.
we are going to start our discussion of these topics with a little quiz to test your knowledge of how these work together
I didn't create this quiz, it is found in David Ridges book
Answers are from 2nd Nephi 2 and 9
Lehi teaches chapter 2
Jacob teaches chapter 9 many years leader---obviously what his father taught him @ a young age stuck with him—he too has been a seeker of truth like Nephi and has found out by himself
do our Christian counterparts agree with us on this one? NO they think that man made an awful mistake that we are still paying for today
The fall was a great blessing and it gave Adam and EVe ownership of the consequences which brought great joy along with hardships which promted growth, Satan was cursed, The ground was cursed for Adam's sake.
Does anyone know what the two types of sins are?
TRICKY QUESTION BUT BASICALLY TRUE
WE are counseled in 2 Nephi 31:20 to press forward with a Perfect brightness of hope
Sometime people get the is mixed up where God says he will remember them no more referring to Judgement day and think that applies to us in terms of remembering them no more. IT is actually a GOOD think we can remember them

Jeffrey R Holland gave a terrific talk based around this quiz and if you are looking for more answers it is ia great place to turn;
In this story he tells a story of two young men and likens their situation to the entire human race
QUOTE: from this talk
Jacob also has a "wo" session with his people in these verses
Remember "WO can mean distress, judgement or warning
Found this interesting correlation with the 10 commandments
I don't know if there is anyone else out there like me but occasionally these topics can be overwhelming, confusing and daunting. Perhaps if your like me, you need just a simplified "TO DO LIST" to get yourself back to God and his prescence. JACOB GIVES US THAT in vs 18
Maybe you are deep in the doctrines of Isaiah here or maybe you need the 3 point bulletin list
wherever you are the Messag is always HOPE
